Xavien Howard Gets Knee Scope

2nd round pick Xavien Howard will miss the start of camp.

2nd round pick Xavien Howard will miss the start of camp.

Xavien Howard is set for a knee scope to fix minor damage.

Xavien Howard was placed on the PUP list and could miss the start of the 2016 Miami Dolphins training camp due to minor damage to his knee.

First, it’s not the end of the world, but it does complicate matters to this crucial training camp.

Yes, it doesn’t take a great sportsbook to bet that it never a good thing to have a player suffer any damage to their knee, but this is the smallest procedure when it comes to knee surgery, so that’s sort of encouraging…sort of.

This does amplify the Dolphins thoughts on bringing in Leon Hall, the likelihood that Tony Lippett will end up the starter, and limits the impact on the contribution of Hoawrd for this season.

Now, new head coach Adam Gase thinks he could have Howard back by Week One of the regular season – at the latest. So, it’s not a season ending injury, but with Miami starting off with such a tough schedule, they may look to veteran Hall to help with the tough start.

On the negative side, this will impact the career of a young prospect who might have made it, but will likely end up cut due to a veteran being hired.

Xavien Howard was expected to start or back-up the corner spot.

There are a few issues that arise though beyond the career’s of a young gun.

First, while Miami has the cap room – plenty of it – to go get Hal, Hall fits better in the nickel role rather than as a starter outside.

Second, it almost forces Lippett into role of starter with the current personnel, rather than Miami’s staff making the decision based on him winning it.

At the very least, there are a few days for the front office and staff to figure it out and make plans. The only real problem I have is since he was injured last day of camp…why did they wait? It’s always interesting – isn’t it! Go Fins!!!

There will be many Corner backs cut before the season start.

The early part of June ripe with cuts after the post-June 1 deadline passes but the Seattle Seahawks decided to make a roster change before June 2 hit.

According to Dov Kleiman, the Seahawks have cut cornerback Jamal Marshall 6’3, 203lbs, North Texas College. Definitely good size. Skill/Talents not certain.

Marshall was a tryout player at rookie mini-camp who made the team after impressing the coaching staff. That first impression looks to be short-lived as he will be the first June casualty. The cut will likely make way for a new player to be added on to make the roster whole at 90 men again; although no corresponding move has been made as of yet.

My thoughts were we have the Talent and good size for a NFL Corner Backs etc. There will be many Corner Backs to choose from while teams may there 53 man roster moves. Lets play this out.

Drafted in the 7th round 2016 Titans UDFA CB Morgan Burns has retired.

Burns’ NFL career lasted 16 days. A surprise Combine snub, Burns was a special teams standout at Kansas State, and a decent corner. He’s hanging up his cleats to pursue a career in ministry. May 17 – 3:04 PM

Maybe the Dolphins could persuade him over?

…I’ve been a lippett fan since the last 2 games of 15 …with him and Maxwell as starters and McCain playing nickle, I think we’re set with or without Howard …camp will tell of course

…the problem with Howard on pup is that there is a serious talent fall off if one of the starters goes down …plus he loses the reps that he needs in camp and in games …which means he won’t develop as quickly as we need him to

…so I’m not going to be surprised if they bring in another CB, be it Hall or someone else, to provide that backup security

Steve, I agree they should stay pat, but they do run the risk of ending up like last year with the guard situation. Most of Miami’s secondary are cast-offs. Now a different scheme and coach might shape them up, but again it’s a risk. With the season opening the way it is, they better nail it. The NE better not be determined by corners getting swamped. Now I agree that Zone is much more forgiving and that’s a plus, but jamming at the line is crucial and it’s takes skill to make it happen right. This is def. a major point in the season and it will be very interesting on how it turns out…a great coaching staff will make a great call.

Howards missing training camp due to minor damage to his knee, does not warrant bringing in Hall. Take the time and let him recover properly, don’t force back on the field before time. Howard was the Dolphins second round pick and the Dolphins should exercise some patience here. We don’t know who we have yet before we cast Howard off. “What is coaching about Developing Players?”

We have Tony Lippett who bring versatility in his game. This is where the coaching has to develop Lippett into that elite Corner the traits are there with the right coach developing him. Its not his fault the Dolphins Coaches are not aware of Lippett ‘s Talent?

    a. Able to play wide receiver and Corner
    b. Good Size
    c. Has play maker traits
    d. Familiar with Division opponents
    e. Potential Pro Bowler
    f. Toughness

Lippett and Howard I’m confident they are both destine Pro Bowler caliber Players needing to play. What does the Corner Back Coach say about them?

Current Roster I think lets train and develop what we have already! I would sink or swim with this group!
    POSITION NUMBER AGE HEIGHT WEIGHT
    Chimdi Chekwa Cornerback – 27 6-0 190 Ohio State
    Xavien Howard Cornerback 4 22 6-0 201 Baylor
    Tony Lippett Cornerback 36 23 6-2 200 Michigan State
    Byron Maxwell Cornerback 31 28 6-1 207 Clemson
    Bobby McCain Cornerback 28 22 5-9 196 Memphis
    Tyler Patmon Cornerback 29 25 5-10 188 Oklahoma State

The problem with the Dolphin is the previous Coaching etc. Never new the talents of the players on the Dolphins Roster also failing to achieve success/development and traded off the best contributing players.
