Will Reshad Jones ‘Unfollow’ Draw Same Ire As Rosen?

Critics can prove THEIR manhood by giving the same criticism to Reshad Jones as they did to Rosen

Smith had a lot to say about the ‘unfollow’ by Rosen

The first ‘story’ fresh out of Minicamp is that Reshad Jones has decided to ‘unfollow’ the Miami Dolphins on Instagram.

First off, I barely know what Instagram is, and I don’t know why Jones removed the Phins on his Instagram account. What I am sure of is that Jones is far more hip about social media than I am… so he had to expect a ‘fallout’. Either Jones didn’t care or wanted to make a stink. Neither is what you want from a player, much less a leader.

You can bet 100% with the pay per head bookie services that Jones is gone this year or next.

Another thing I’m ‘crystal’ on is that Josh Rosen’s ‘unfollow’ of the Cards just prior to his trade to Miami was met with intense derision. That unfollow was ‘reported’ as ‘proof positive’ that Rosen was less than a man and a selfish ‘prima donna’ attempting to duck competition.

However tasty it is to focus Jones’ social media slight of ‘his team’, it’s actually the back story… for now.

Plenty of critics climbed up on their high horses and yodled from the rafters about Rosen’s egregious ‘unfollow’. You’d expect Reshad Jones to get equal treatment, given he quit on the Dolphins in the middle of a game in 2018 and only showed up to practice when it was mandatory? Rosen never did that.

So far though, it’s been the sound of silence. Hmmmmmmm, now isn’t that curious. A fair question is why?

‘Hypocrisy’ or to not ‘hypocrisy’: That’s the question?

The real story is about the character of the many critics who lambasted Rosen’s ‘unfollow’. Are they intellectually honest or not?

Here’s the genesis of the lambasting that Rosen received

And what Reshad Jones should get from these same critics—if they aren’t prejudicial hypocrites with an ax to grind.

“Bueller. Bueller?”

Smith on Rosen’s unfollow on IG: “When things don’t go your way, you’re going to cry in the corner.”
https://youtu.be/9yaDM_vk9AQ
Steve Smith: “Man quit playing with your fingers and going on Twitter and get your ass in the weight room and get ready to play some football.”

Here are some key points from Smith’s ‘expert’ analysis that should now apply to Jones. No?!:

  • “So now you’re mad that they brought some competition in here.”
  • “So now you’re gonna’ take your ball… son, it ain’t your damn ball anyway.”
  • “When thing don’t go your way you’re gonna’ cry in the corner.”
  • “So they’re gonna’ ship your ass somewhere else and be their problem.”
  • “This is a man’s game, so be a man and go against that man one-on-one.”
  • “You know why he won’t be on that roster? Because he don’t have enough heart to be on that roster.”
  • “He don’t wanna’ work… he wants something given to him.”

In a later interview, Smith doubled down and added that Rosen was acting ‘passive aggressive’.

Now Smith’s reaction was one thing, but this assessment was wholeheartedly backed by Dolphins beat writer Omar Kelly:

If this is the truth, then the ‘truth’ should apply to Jones. No? I expect to hear some ‘truth preaching’ on this matter tout suite. If not, then the question is why?

Remember ‘you been warned’.

“A reputation for good judgment, for fair dealing, for truth, and for rectitude, is itself a fortune,” Henry Ward Beecher

I’m not a Rosen fan in the least. While I was happy that they traded for him, I didn’t want Miami to draft him in 2018. His struggles with health and his public persona rubbed me the wrong way. But in my research of Rosen after Miami dealt for him, I saw I had allowed media prejudice to taint my opinion… and I had to ‘fess’ up.

Also, I like Steve Smith (the player) and Omar Kelly the reporter more… at this point. You can add Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharp, as well as many of the other critics, to the list. But what I despise is unfair treatment. Even Jesus hated the hypocrites.

I thought the intense outcry over the ‘Rosen unfollow fiasco’ was way, way overblown. But some had a different take. No problem (sans Smith). Everyone is entitled to a different opinion… as long as you dispense that judgment evenly.

Hey, I wrote that Jones was “All-Pro At Finding The “I” In Team” for not showing up to camp after he quit on the team in 2018. Plenty disagreed. Such is life. You let time shake opinions out until the truth is revealed. Some times you nail it and sometimes you have to own up to your jackassery. I’ve made a dope of myself on occasion. Getting it both wrong and right is human… and understandable.

What is unacceptable is cognisant bias.

While I’m just a two-bit, hack blogger, even I understand journalistic integrity. So, you’d hope a ‘real journalist’ would put Reshad Jones under the same fire that Rosen got and point out the hypocrisy in others who didn’t… or the hypocrisy in themselves.

You’d hope. Go Phins!!!

On a positive note, let’s look at the players that are there and competing/progressing! I can’t wait for meaningful football or camp battle/progression! That’s exciting! Go Phins!

Me neither, Sterling. I really like Flores the person… I really hope he is near as good a coach as he is a man. I’m really pulling for him and hope he gets this team ship shape. Just over a month before we get some real indications.

I think Reshad Jones is acting out, but that is MY opinion. And, honestly, he has been acting out for a while. He got his money and now he is well….entitled.

Although this is the case, Where I have an issue is…. ****WHO CARES**** when someone gets removed from a social media ANYTHING??!? It happens all the time, it happens every day. People unfollow or unfriend me, others, companies, organizations, etc..and as for me, I don’t announce it to the world to report on. So why does it matter? Because it shouldn’t matter at all! Did he turn in his jersey? umm, no? Then the major news reporting machine that finds this as “news” needs to do something else.

Social Media, of any type, does not dictate anything in our lives and we shouldn’t be judged on whether or not we have our jobs on there or not. I love my job, but I don’t have my company or coworkers on my social media. Does that make me a bad person? Should my bosses or HR talk to me about it? NO! I, personally, don’t care that anyone unfollows/unfriends anyone on any website or social media! He simply doesn’t want to follow that on his phone or whatever. Why is that so difficult to comprehend? Hahaha!!

Agree, but the main crux of my article is the hypocrisy of the media. Yes, Jones is doing it for a reason. It’s a small reveal of the same character that had him quit in the middle of a game… we know who he is now. He isn’t a leader and he is petty and selfish. BUT, with all the media meltdown over Rosen’s unfollow and the sound of crickets from the very same reporters that blasted him, we see the character of these reporters. Jones should have the heat turned up on him as it was on Rosen or certain reporters should admit they were rash to judgment. One or the other really. As it stands right now we are seeing severe media bias from some reporters, Sterling.

“As it stands right now we are seeing severe media bias from some reporters, Sterling.”

Sadly, this has never changed and just as disappointing as always. And somehow, some way or in some weird effort it’s disguised as valid or important news…for what feels like the next forever months. You know, if we stop giving these ‘children’ attention on things like this, we can start getting rid of players that need to be out of this league for players that want to be there in it in the first place.. and yes, teams, in their entirety, should turn their backs on players like jones. Why? Because you never know when they’re going to quit on you too! Temper tantrums as adults should never be rewarded with money or new teams. Just my $0.02

It’s pretty obvious that Rashad Jones want out. The Dolphins need to shop him around. Maybe someone will make a fair offer. If not, then put him on special teams and fine him at every opportunity. Being nasty is a two way street.
    Forget professional conduct and civility.
If the players, ask tell them the truth. Players need to know that they must produce and conduct themselves in a professional manner.

Honestly, I’d like to see him feel uncomfortable more all season than get a pick for him… you nailed it, Van. I’m 1000% sold on your plan. Jones has turned into a complete punk… but I think the beat writer will give him a pass.

  • HappyPhins

Good article. Omar has been throwing shade on Rosen, since before the trade. His ego will never allow him to admit he was wrong, even if Rosen turns out to be the long-term solution for the Dolphins.

I really like Omar Kelly. I think his persona and take is important to the total Phins reporting. But, I despise bias… have seen it my whole life and hurt many. There’s very little that I hate more than that. I hope Kelly does what’s right… Also, Jones needs to feel uncomfortable…. he’s acting like a punk.
