Will It Ultimately Matter If Miami Beats Buffalo?

What’s the ‘real’ value gained from a Miami win this week

Theoretically, the Dolphins could win themselves into the Post Season

Theoretically, Miami could ‘win themselves’ into the Post Season

As a diehard Dolphins fan, I want the Phins to win every game. However, the reality is that this season is past the crossroads. Yes, a win at home against Buffalo brings the Dolphins to 6-6… and a ‘shot’ at the Playoffs. But, beyond raw hope, does anyone really believe a ‘W’ would mean much after Week 17?

Let’s be real, the Dolphins had their chance last week to beat the 5-5 Colts. They failed to hold onto their 4th quarter lead and lost a ‘Playoff Game’. Now Miami will lose any tiebreakers with the Colts for the Post Season. That’s not good for those who aren’t ‘savvy’.

The Dolphins are facing the Bills at home this Sunday. Sad to say, but Buffalo has the 32nd ranked Offense… and their record is only slightly worse than Miami’s at 4-7. The Bills are going nowhere this season.. and it seems neither are the Dolphins.

Miami is now a week past their crossroads… what now?

However, Buffalo has one thing that Miami doesn’t have–and desperately needs–the promise of a young Quarterback.

Josh Allen hasn’t played great but he’s a Rookie will little talent around him. Like Tannehill, he’s missed a few games this season due to injury. In his 5 games starts this season he’s 3-4 (he’s had two games in relief). The interesting thing is Tannehill is 3-3 and the Dolphins only have one more win with more offensive talent.

This doesn’t send fun-loving chills up your leg. Does it?

Despite poor play by Allen, Tannehill’s wins are on par with his

Allen is the Bills are 1-3 without him. With more experience, the Bills may have finally found their franchise QB. May have isn’t has… but that’s better than Miami’s situation.

Allen has made plenty of plays with his feet. His 258 rushing yards and 4 rushing scores should give the Dolphins defense nightmares this week. This type of style can’t go on forever, but as for this week, Miami’s defense has been quite vulnerable to mobile QBs. In the short run, Allen’s rushing could help Buffalo be respectable this season. It could also give them a shock win over Miami this week.

The Offshore Sportsbook Operations provider like AcePerHead.com on the market actually opened the Dolphins up as a -6 point favorite. But the sharp action actually quickly jumped on the underdog Bills and the line dropped to -4.5 and is now a touch higher at -5.

What would a Dolphins win against the Bills actually achieve?

Sure a win will technically keep them alive in the playoff hunt. But Miami will have to win out to get a Post Season game. And even if they do, where are they in the most crucial position in football? Barring some grand epiphany by Tannehill, or whoever on the roster, the Dolphins are in a hole at QB. The reality is even if they do make the Post Season, a first-round blowout loss will be the result.

I hate being in this position. Every year I root for Miami to win and say ‘screw the higher draft pick’. Then the draft comes and Miami hasn’t won anything… and also misses out on a critical player by a few picks.

So a couple of wins will likely only get them another mid first round pick… again. However, losing our remaining games earns a top 10 pick… and possibly even in the top 5. This could or could not land us a young Franchise QB.

Another season where Miami has little for winning a Post Season game

I’m not saying to root for Miami to lose. We had the 1st overall in 2008 and didn’t come away with a Franchise QB. Picks don’t guarantee anything. But what I am saying is that it sure does suck to be in this predicament… and so desperate that I even consider it.

What is the rest of the Miami Dolphins News fans thoughts on how you want the Dolphins to finish out the remainder of the season?

All in fun and conversation for us FAN’s.
This is the time to start watching the players November and December. After January 2019 Many of the college players who are draft eligible for the 2019 draft stocks will become over inflated and this is where the Dolphins get into trouble every season.

    Austin Bryant 5th Rounder

    https://youtu.be/C4eN30wrT9w

    Scouting Report:

A physically gifted athlete that has all of the athletic ability that NFL evaluators like to see in a defensive end. A fairly raw propsect that needs to continue to work on his technique, particularly his hand work, and developing more pass rush moves. Very productive, but surrounded by elite, future NFL talent, his draft process will be very important, particularly with measuring his explosive potential, which will help determine whether he is better suited as a left defensive end, or if he has the high ceiling allowing him to be a premier, right side defensive end.

School: Auburn Position: Defensive End Class: Sophomore Height: 6-4 Weight: 282 Projected Draft Round: 3-5
    Scouting Report:

A prototypical 4-3, edge, get after the QB pass rusher. Powerful and fast with good height, build, and athleticism that wreaks havoc in the back field. Uses a combination of hand and arm technique and leverage to alternatively use speed and power to get around and through offensive linemen.

    4th rounder: Yodny Cajuste

    https://youtu.be/1OHFCJ0uATY

School: West Virginia Position: Offensive Tackle Class: Senior Height: 6-5 Weight:321 Projected Draft Round:2-4

    Scouting Report:

Mountainous left tackle that works in a pass heavy air raid offense. Elite footwork and balance in the passing game. A pure left tackle prospect that has worked at his craft and it shows. Excellent bend, and for such a big man, isn’t often beaten on the outside by speed rushers. By looking at him would think he would be more of a run blocker, but that area of his game he needs to work on. However, there is a pattern of that weakness by almost all offensive tackles coming out of this offense. Should be able to correct that at the next level as it does appear to be a scheme / coaching issue.

School: Oklahoma Position: Offensive Tackle Class: Junior Height: 6-5 Weight: 300 Projected Draft Round: 2-3 Bobby Evans

    https://youtu.be/6uWf0w6p0hI

    Scouting Report: Bobby Evans

Still has some work to do with building out his frame, but a big bodied, strong tackle prospect that thrives in a spread system. Works well in space, and capable of getting out off the line to help in a short passing game. Good length and power, and can jar opponents when he just sets in his hips, anchors and drives at a defender. Will need time to adapt to the pro game, but has all the tools to work on either side.

School: Florida Position: Offensive Tackle Class: Junior Height: 6-5 Weight: 344 Projected Draft Round: 2-5

    https://youtu.be/STC74_Ymi1Y

    Scouting Report:

Has excellent height and a strong build, but appears to not have the ideal arm length of a tackle. Could very possibly be seen as a guard at the next level. Even though he doesn’t possess the wingspan that NFL scouts look for, he does an excellent job of mirroring defenders, and gets a powerful first hand punch, and sustains blocks. Very good to excellent balance and bend. Needs to work on footwork and positioning when blocking in space. Technique has continued to improve, so will be interesting how he is viewed in terms of position during the draft process.

We cannot missed out on Quarterback Kyler Murray if he comes out of College (most likely he will win the Heisman on 6 December 2018. I’m thinking the experts will let him slipped to the 3rd round???

Khalil Hodge Most underrated linebacker in this draft.

School: Buffalo Position: Inside Linebacker Class: Senior Height: 6-1 Weight: 235 Projected Draft Round: 2-4 https://youtu.be/dPy0RDvrx3Y

    https://youtu.be/2b2qxpf59eM

    Scouting Report:

Fast off the ball linebacker with excellent strength to disengage blockers to get to the play. Able to read and diagnose run vs. pass, and isn’t easily fooled with options and play action, where many linebackers will take fall steps and get out of position. Is able to either avoid blockers with his quickness, or stack them up and toss them aside by making them off balance. Controls his gaps, and is a sound tackler, wrapping up with efficiency. Able to cover running backs and tight ends which is paramount for inside linebackers in most NFL schemes.

    Possibilities on Day 2:

SECOND ROUND: Mack Wilson 33RD THREW 40TH PICKED Mack Wilson is a Defensive Captain without a doubt!

School: Wisconsin Position: Offensive Guard Class: Senior Height: 6-6 Weight: 322 lbs Projected Draft Round:1-2

    Scouting Report:
Road grader that led the way for one of the best running attacks in the country. Powerful lower body, able to move defenders back, and can get to the second level quickly. Very good in pass protection as well.

Raekwon Davis Picked 33rd threw 64th picked.
    https://youtu.be/cI6sJwAxJ10

School: Alabama Position: Defensive End Class: Junior Height: 6-7 Weight: 306 lbs Projected Draft Round: 1-2

    Scouting Report:
Ideal end in a 3-4, Raekwon Davis was exceptional off the edge in rotational duty. Can play on the inside, but his length and initial burst make him an ideal outside pass rusher. Can maintain his gaps against the run when needed, but primary skillset is using his long arms and strong lower body to use a variety of pass rush moves to win with power and speed.

    Hello Admin

Beginning to end the defensive line Mediocrity. Achieving this player would turned this Franchise around.

1ST ROUND PICKED 1 THREW 10TH PICKED Quinnen Williams
School: Alabama Position: Defensive Tackle Class: Senior Height: 6-4 Weight: 295 Projected Draft Round: 1-3
    https://youtu.be/mtjNGn2nM1s
    Scouting Report:

A penetrating, attacking, 1 gap defensive tackle that has the length and anchor to not be a liability when asked to defend against the run. His hands and technique are his strength, and he is slowly building a collection of pass rush moves that confound offensive linemen. Can bull rush, or use several potent pass rush moves, and then uses leverage well to chase down opposing QB’s.

1ST ROUND PICKED: 11TH THREW 21ST PICKED Derrick Brown
    https://youtu.be/r_vQ5RXdwOU
School: Auburn Position: Defensive Tackle Class: Senior Height: 6-4 Weight: 322 lbs Projected Draft Round: 1-2
    Scouting Report:

Has the height and length to be a natural at defensive end in a two gap defensive scheme, Brown has shown the ability to stand up blockers and able to work through the gaps with a variety of moves. His position should clarify as his body and skill set continue to develop. He is long, tall, with the anchor to play inside and outside. Might be best as a 3-4 DE, but has all the tools to show that he can do more, moving inside and outside on lines in either types of defensive schemes.

1ST ROUND PICKED 22ND THREW 32ND PICKED Christian Wilkins
School: Clemson Position: Defensive Tackle Class: Senior Height: 6-4 Weight: 310 lbs Projected Draft Round: 1-2
    https://youtu.be/rEsswczmQzk
    Scouting Report:

A potential match up nightmare for offensive coordinators at the next level, Wilkins is able to be effective all over the defensive line. A tackle for loss machine, he will need to continue to work on his pass rush technique, and could end up as a top 10 pick in next year’s draft. Suitable for any defensive scheme.

We need to address the linebacker: But if we can waste money on Jay Cutler we can via fee agency get the best linebacker on the market. LSU line backer White we should have a sure shot AT! (But I don’t believed that he will anchor the defense like Q. Williams has shown with BAMA.
Very tempting not to draft a QB in the 1st round listed below

  • Steve

    Hello Jimmy

Can we stick with the game plan. Many will say it not broke?

We need to address the defensive line since we are maybe last in the league for stopping the run.

Preseason: Miami has allowed 299 yards rushing in the first two exhibition games. That includes 226 yards Friday at Carolina, and 71 on one play — a touchdown run by Christian McCaffrey on the second snap of the night.

The leaky ground defense is especially worrisome because the same problem contributed greatly to a 6-10 finish in 2017. The Dolphins gave up over 170 yards rushing three times during a five-game losing streak that sent the season south. Currently prior to the Bills game we are maybe ranked 30th in run defense?

Very tempting not to draft a QB in the 1st round listed below

#4.) Oregon Ducks QB Justin Herbert
#5.) Georgia Bulldogs QB Jake Fromm
#6.) Missouri Tigers QB Drew Lock
#7.) Arizona Wildcats QB Khalil Tate
#14.) Auburn Tigers QB Jarrett Stidham
#18.) West Virginia Mountaineers QB Will Grier
#25.) Michigan Wolverines QB Shea Patterson
#26.) Alabama Crimson Tide QB Tua Tagovailoa (Hard to passed) if available need to draft after the 1st round.
#32.) Mississippi St. Bulldogs QB Nick Fitzgerald
#38.) Penn State Nittany Lions QB Trace McSorley
#50.) Ohio State QB Dwayne Haskins (Hard to passed) if available we need to draft second round the experts have him not ranked the number one quarterback???)

    • admin

Agree. Injuries play a part as the most of these teams didn’t lose 3/5th of their OL and starting QB… but Miami at the very least should have two more wins and be 7-4. This was because a complete meltdown occured with Cincy and the Colts. Two meltdowns like this in one season point to something deeply wrong.

  • Ed

So if we win out we will have beaten NE and Minnesota which are both highly regarded as top teams in the league. I’m not sure that if we can beat them why can’t we beat a first round playoff opponent? To me it is horrible to hope your favorite NFL team would lose out to get the golden ticket to draft a QB that hasn’t proven he can win in the NFL anymore than RT. These supposed elite QB’s are very hard to find and how often do they continue there success. How is Atlanta, Green Bay, Tampa, Tenessee doing right now with these 1st round golden tickets.

    • admin

This was Jimmy’s article, but I’m the ‘answer boy’ this season… so here’s my 2 cents. I agree with you Ed, and Jimmy did mention all of your points. I can say that I too feel the desperation of the situation. I still believe Miami ‘could’ win 4 of the next 5 games and make the Post Season. In fact, they shouldn’t have been in this situation to begin with. They are a better team than 5-6. But here they are still doing the same things that brought them here. I think many of these issues could be resolved with changes, but they refuse to make an real change. Due to this stubborn lack of adaptability, I don’t think they’ll win enough to make the Playoffs or get a Playoff win. It could happen, I guess. I don’t know enough about the Top 2 QBs to make a statement on them. The Dolphins best bet isn’t going up to get one of them (and I don’t think they have enough ammo to get there even if they wanted to). Their best bet is to find the right GM, even if you keep Gase, and then let him make ALL the decisions. So far, Ross has entered the decision making too much and hasn’t done well. We’ll see, Ed. I hope they prove me and Jimmy wrong… I really, really do.
