What to do with Mr Wallace?

sports gambling

The Dolphins have to make a few tough decisions, and one of the biggest ones is going to be what to do with Mike Wallace?

Wallace was Miami’s big free-agent signing in 2013, which was done in order to give Tannehill another weapon on offense and to have a deep threat to open up the field. Tannehill and Wallace have had 2 seasons to work on the deep ball; in the first season they missed around 10-15 times, the second season they still missed, but actually did not even try going deep that many times.

The bottom line is that Tannehill has proved he can be a quality starter in this league, but after three seasons he has failed to improve on his deep ball touch, and it does not look like that is going to improve over the course of his career. Yes, Tannehill and Wallace can practice more on connecting with the deep ball, but it is also not a pass that one can practice 100 times a day, without either hurting one’s arm or burning out the receiver’s lungs. It would be nice if they could get on the same page on the deep ball, however that should not be the make or break in whether they keep Wallace. For the upcoming 2015 season, Wallace is going to count $12.1 million against the cap and $3 million is guaranteed, so they will need to pay that $3 million and count that against the cap even if they do not want to bring him back.

Just on a purely economical standpoint, most free bookie software fans would say it would be financially wise to resign him since it would be silly to pay a player $3 million who will not even be playing on the team. Wallace had a bad end to the season with his altercation with Joe Philbin at the end of the Jets game. Nobody truly knows what was said, but the big question is can Philbin and Wallace see past that incident and be able to continue to work together.

Philbin has a history of parting ways with players that he feels have too much of a personality such as Brandon Marshall, and Vontae Davis, so regardless of finances or performance, if there is still bad blood between the two, then this could be the deciding factor in jettisoning Wallace this off-season. However, the biggest reason why Wallace should be kept on the roster is because of his production. His receptions and yardage slipped a little from the first season, but the most important statistic that he improved in and doubled from his first season was touchdowns.

Wallace had 10 touchdowns, which tied his personal season-high that he achieved back in 2010. Wallace was deadly in the RedZone and was tied for 12th most touchdowns by a receiver in the entire NFL. Tannehill threw 27 touchdowns this season, which means Wallace accounted for 37% of those touchdowns, so purely on a production standpoint, Wallace should be brought back, because Miami’s offense can not afford to lose 10 touchdowns worth of production. So based on money and performance it should be a no brainer that Wallace should be brought back next season. However, the one wild card is that if Phiblin can not move on from the end of the season incident then that could be the straw that breaks the camel’s back in this relationship.

My vote is to keep Wallace at least for one more season, what is the rest of Phins fans thoughts on Wallace?

I’d trade Wallace for draft picks. Wallace has not had the impact for whatever reason you want to attribute this to, here in Miami.

The Fins’ needs are so broad and overwhelming in so many places that cap money can be used for a number of player/positions vs one WR that is really a one trick pony.

I’ll take picks and free up cap space for FA’s in more critical roles like…you can fill in anything here__________.

Mike wallace is not the problem here. The media is misconstruing this whole thing to make wallace the bad guy. It is well documented that anyone with a voice or opinion is benched or cut or traded by joe moron philbin. Reggie bush was sat after speaking up. Marshall traded. Long though for money reasons not resigned. I hate how salguero and even the phinsiders side with 7-9, 8-8, 8-8 and say oh give him time… john fox just went 46-18 and got fired so why keep philbin??? Shows how terrible of a coach he is. Hes afraid to win and show emotion as well as not knowing situational football. Hickey is great and lazor is great coyle and philbin have to go i say bring in john fox and schwartz as d coordinator.

At least know about the team if your going to comment! Mike Wallace is a #2 period he will never be a #1 he’s a terrible route runner! however He does look alot better when he’s playing with the best WR in the league Antino Brown! Philibin is a moron but not without the help of the Genis GM Jeff Isuck helping. Brandon Marshall punched his own ticket when he popped a girl in the face in NYC he was traded the next day great player 10x better than wallace but you can’t keep guys like that & he was on his 10th screw up! John Fox really? can you tell me his 3 year record before manning your correct worse than dumb ass joe You should be fired when you waste 3 years of Manning

Wallace is the problem. Not on the field, but in the locker room and off the field. It has been said that he quite more than just the last game of this season. He did have a decent year. However; we could replace him as the slot receiver he’s been, and get similar production without the attitude, and help create a healthy environment.
Not to mention Wallace was the highest paid receiver in the league this season. Are you serious, the highest paid receiver in the league; that’s right, more than Mega-Tron, Dez, J.Jones, Green. Wallace may have acted like the highest paid receiver, did not play like it.
Trade him: get what you can (hopefully a third round pick)!!!

Unfortunately, we need to keep Wallace since we don’t have a replacement for him. I would not be surprised if the team drafts a taller “burner” at WR this upcoming draft and then tries to trade him in 2016. I am tired of his immature & selfish ways. Wallace wants to be the go to guy and the “the show”. Lazor’s offense spreads the ball around and Tannehill delivers the ball to the best mis-match. I don’t think the offensive style suits Wallace, but we are stuck with him for another season at least!

these are grown men. wallace needs to understand he works for the coach.he has to do what he’s told. just like all of us who have a boss. they need to work it out. we just can’t lose this guy cause he will end up in new england and kill us for years.

    • Jimmy Bourbon

Your right he will end up in New England and him and Brady will be torching us on the deep balls

      • Dunner

Please, let him go to New England. Grimes can cover him all day any day, don’t care who’s throwing to him. Get the highest draft pick for him you can get and trade Mr.Wallace and his attitude. Go to New England and wine about not getting the ball!!
