What it takes for the Playoffs

The Dolphins are currently 6-5 and they are in the thick of a heavily competitive race for the playoffs. With 6 games left the Patriots are 3 games ahead of the Dolphins, which means they are extremely close to clinching the AFC East crown. However, it should be noted that New England is an underdog this weekend in Green bay, and then they play on the road in San Diego, and then are at home against Miami the following week, so there is a chance for Miami to still make up some ground. However Miami must take care of business and either win out or win 4 out of 5 games.

The more realistic option, however is that the Dolphins will only have a chance of making the playoffs if they can get one of the two wild card spots. Currently the Dolphins sit in the number 10 position in the AFC, and would need to at least get to the 6th position if they want to make the playoffs. The good thing is that even though they are in the 10th position, they are only 1 game behind Kansas City (which they would lose a tie breaker too), San Diego (which they would win a tie breaker with), Baltimore (which they have to play in two weeks), Pittsburgh (which currently has a better conference record then the Dolphins) and Cleveland (who the Dolphins currently have a better conference record then).

The Dolphins will get help because a lot of these teams will be playing each other, which means one team in all likelihood, barring a tie, will lose. But the main thing for the Dolphins is they must win against the teams on their schedule. Football gambling fans and players can say whatever they want, but the reality is that each of the Dolphins next and last 5 football games, are playoff games. The Dolphins can probably only afford to lose one of their remaining 5 games if they want to make the playoffs.

For starters the Dolphins must beat the rival New York Jets this upcoming Monday night on the road. The Jets kept them out of the playoffs last year, and every football gambling fan knows that with the Jets season is already over in terms of making the playoffs, that nothing would make them happier if they could ruin the Dolphins’ playoff hopes for yet another season. The Jets have been downright terrible this season, and there is no excuse for the Dolphins not blowing out the Jets and improving their record to 7-5. This Dolphin team has definitely proven themselves more capable at taking care of business than in years past, and I truly have no doubt that they will be able to do it this upcoming Monday night against the lowly Jets. Not only that, but when was the last time that the Dolphins were a -6 ½ point favorite on the road against the Jets?
