Welcome To “Rebuildville”, Again!

Miami‘s defeat by the Giants was the end of not just their playoff hopes, but this regime, many players’ careers as Dolphins, and the coaching staff. There will be no last-minute saving grace. The total rebuild is on. It’s not that there wasn’t an improvement, there was. It’s not that this was a blow-out, it wasn’t. It’s not that parts of the Fins didn’t play well, they did. But, the totality as presented on the field and more importantly, for the future, is a team built for failure – and it’s a shame at times they seem so close, but it always ends up so far. And that’s why this project must officially enter start the scrapping.

Tannehill looked a lot better with control at the LOS, and some early drops, or slightly better balls, may have made all the difference. But, it wasn’t so, and in the 4th quarter the offense came unraveled and Tannehill couldn’t make the right throws or inspire the offense to “will the win”. Yes, Lazor failed to develop him. But, will the next regime rest all its fortunes on whether they can develop him or not? He might be an option, but he won’t be the only one. So a question mark hangs over the most crucial position.

Coach Campbell will make a good head coach someday. He took over a team in disarray that had serious holes, little leadership, a contentious member of the staff, and started three games down in the win column. The job he has done is admirable. The meltdown and disappearance of the run game show he needs more marination – how much? It’s hard to say, but installing his system and the players to fit it only to find two years later that he still isn’t ready could be a half-decade disaster. So a question mark hangs over the leader of the franchise.

Landry showed again that he, along with Miller, can be centerpieces for the future, but both have developing question marks. We all know the issue with Miller is the price tag attached to an oft nicked RB that could cause cap issues. It’s Landry, who I love, that is revealing serious maturity issues that are a concern. He is a find. He is a player. He is the heart of the offense. But, his immaturity and lack of control has now spilled over from meeting rooms to sidelines, and now onto the field and affecting the game directly. Can he fix it? Sure he can. Will he fix it? It doesn’t take much in the way of football betting software to believe so. Still, the best pick in some time has a “must fix” issue cropping up. So question marks hang over the two brightest offensive stars of the franchise.

Grimes is done as a top corner and the CB cupboard is bare. Wake is recovering from serious injury and Vernon is going to be looking for big money. Lb’s are on short order, except Jenkins and he is dinged a lot. Then there is the front office. Question marks are all over the defense and over those who will be in charge of fixing it – Tannenbaum must have a fat question mark over him!

It has appeared a foregone conclusion that this would ultimately be the 2016 scenario. Now, it is official and as Hamlet once spoke on “seems” – Nay, it is.

Steven Ross isn’t selling the team anytime soon. He wants to win and does everything he can to win. He is the only exclamation mark there is. This offseason he needs a clean house and rebuilds it all. If Campbell and Tannehill had come up big and taken that step forward then everything could have been built around them. It was close. But this isn’t horseshoes or hand grenades, so we are back in “Rebuildville” – AGAIN.

Hmmm, lets see….. Miami promotes Logan Thomas to avoid losing him to the Bengals. Boy, if they had so much confidence in Tanny w a back up set why would they make that move? Speaks volume

  • Dunner

I agree Admin, we could do worse than Tanny. I just don’t want to waist another year waiting for his progression when he has hit the ceiling.

The right coach/staff can right this ship. It also takes the right owner.

Well has anyone made the choice of which is better? Is it an ugly win or a pretty loss? We have had both in the last couple of weeks. Now think about blowing this team up and starting all over again. Five years. that’s what it will take. Instead I think we should keep Dan Cambell, he at least has the mentality we need. remember even Coach Shula went for many years without going to the playoffs AND THAT WAS WITH MARINO! I believe he needs some time to straighten this mess out and maybe get some good draft picks and stop picking up all these expensive free agents who want to retire in Fla. If Cambell has the opportunity to mold some good draft picks I think he will get this team going like –well the Jets –you know the team that picked up Toddd Bowles after we threw him out. This team needs some consistency and if Mr. Hickey and Tannenbaum can get us some decent talent I think we will be on our way. And for the next few years we will “enjoy” some ugly wins and pretty losses,by the way all teams have them.

We need to just get the right guys heading the ship FO and HC and ditch this convoluted hierarchy as the team talent is rebooted. If Ross can finally get that right the rest would be better. The “if” of this is the billion dollar question.

I must say the Dolphins played well most of the game. I was impress with Tannehill autible calling, His deep ball throwing has improved, Scrambling more etc. This freedom makes him better. I was really surprised of Miller’s running ability in the run game.

The Defense was not afraid to make contact which was a plus!

For years I have seen the Dolphins just give up on games but that Monday night game against the Giant. I truley believed that the Dolphins earned more night games.

Under Coach Campbell those are the improvements.

Though the Dolphins did lose the game I thought the Dolphins did not lay down and just give up. Being a Fan I appreciate that type fight dont lay down.

Last night’s game showed our deficiencies very clearly
Taylor is not fit to be a CB has to be released or traded this off season
Agree something wrong with Grimes either past his prime or hurt or last year he was awful lucky
In any event we should not count on him but ……. Yes big but – we cannot afford free agents that are any good because of the Tannehill and Suh contracts – so we might just have to keep Grimes and hope he has one more year left
Our first pick has to be a MLB or a corner either one has to be a starter immediately
Our second pick will have to be the one we did not get on the first round
Our other glaring hole is Guard
We need two guards and in order to get 2 starting guards we might have to draft 3 of them
I have zero confidence in Tannebaum’s judgement to pick players
As long as he is calling the shots we are f@&$
I hope I am wrong and he surprises us – but I don’t think that will happen
Wake will be too old and this injury might (might) affect his future play – I hope not and I hope he comes back strong – but we cannot afford to gamble and pay him big bucks
He will have to take a home team discount
    I hope he does
Wake is a true Dolphan – I don’t want him playing for someone else He is one of the faces of this team
    We will see Tannehill return
Too expensive – no one will want him with that price tag – he certainly is not worth that much
Again thanks Tannebaum for giving him such a rich contract one year before we had to …. Great judgement

We will have to think about drafting a tackle
Albert will get hurt again and we have no decent backup

I hope we get at least 3 compensatory picks
Package them somehow to move up and get another starter

Please please let our GM pick the players mr Tannebaum he did a fantastic job before you interfered

Start our backup QB and give him more experience plus prevent Tannehill from getting hurt – it doesn’t matter if we win or not anymore oughta take advantage and play the backups to better evaluate them

  • Dunner

    1) Can we trade Tannehill, he is contract friendly, and there may be a staff that believes they can turn him into what they need (good luck). A first or second rounder would be great.

    2) It is obvious that our first pick needs to be a CB (I hate to say that, because I believe we need to move in a different direction at the QB position and we may be in the right slot to get 1 of the top 2 QBs). I love Grimes but he needs to be covering the #2 WR at best. There are 2-3 shut down Corners in the up coming draft and we will be in the spot to get one, if not the top one.

    3) In a perfect world we would draft the top LBer in the draft (much needed), however; must use for a CB/QB. That is where Tannehill comes in (he can help the team after all), TRADE Tanny for 1st or 2nd round pick and pick up Breese or Manning for 1/2 year(s).
    4) Where we sit right now, we could draft the top or second ranked CB and in the first round, get the top or second ranked GUARD in the second round. Any return for a Tanny trade would have to be used for a QB.
    5) That leaves us needing a LBer or two as well as a second guard (which the second guard could come via free agency).

If you all don’t see that Tanny is not the answer are setting yourself up for failure again, excuses/excuses/excuses, well there were none last night and you all seen the results!!!

Can our guard play be any worse, absolutely atrocious! The guard position is supposed to be the position where you can hide your weaknesses, NOT on this team, it is that bad. Thanks Tannebaum!

Why did we abandoned the run in the second half????? Seriously, know your STRENGTHS, sorry Campbell you just nixed any chance that you had as next years HC.

Mr.Ross, please look me up, or Jimmy forward this to Mr.Ross himself, I will lead you in the right direction. Let’s get Sean Payton (Breese along w him). Give him the power to hire his GM, etc. We’ll just start there.

And Mr.Ross please insist that the new HC or yourself resign there own, starting w Miller, Matthews, Vernon, Shelby, re-work Wake or release, re-work Grimes or release, teams are built through the draft each and every year, period.

Mr.Ross, that is just a small synopsis of a detailed rebuild (and I don’t mean the stadium rebuild)!

Problem Dunner with the Qb is you know what you have with him. Lazor to Taylor and there was an upgrade…there would be more with a real coach. How much? Doubt alot. But, once you let him go to go back to larger questions and a harder time in acquiring the answers. It really is a better situation when you have nothing at QB then alittle something…you could end up with worse. Tannehill isn’t likely ever to be a guy to carry you, but there are maybe 10 that can. If Tannehill and Campbell both shined brightly then you could build now the two most important piece (field wise) are question marks. So a new regime is forced to scrap everything. Jones, Albert, James, Landry, Suh, Jenkins are the only certain pieces. Ajayi, Parker, Phillips, McCain are you young pieces you will try to develop and Vernon and Miller are considerations (Vernon more so for a new regime) due to cap price. Tannehill will stay due to the sheer difficulty in finding a functional QB – and he is at least that which is more or less a stepping stone. Everything else as far as starters can and will be scrapped – even Pouncy as he is more suited to a passing O and as lost alot. Ross tried with Parcells…wh didn’t think that was going to be a winner – well until he brought in Sparano.

      • Dunner

I understand where you are coming from admin. However; it is not the physical part of being a NFL QB. Tannehill is a top tier QB in that aspect, he can make all the throws, he can take hits and run as well as any. It is the intangibles that he does not have, it is between the ears where he lacks, and its to bad because personality/physically wise he is perfect.

Campbell wants to run the ball, which means Tanny becomes a game manager. I assure you there is 3-4 top College QBS in next years draft that can do just that right from the start. This puzzle (which Ross has made this franchise), is only a few pieces away. But, if we continue to wait another year for the biggest piece to fit we will again be having this conversation again next year. This team has a handful of players that are reaching and in their prime, we can not afford to waist these years on a position that we have waited 4 years for. Should there be a opportunity to trade Tanny and get one of the top 3-4 college QBs we must move. Ross and the whole staff owes that to the players. Tanny no longer has the players trust, how will that be going into next season???? May have a pretty cover with an nice introduction, but there will be no story, especially a fairy tail ending.

    • Lemmus

      …lmfao!!! …yeah Ross, call Dunner!!!

…Tannehill isn’t going anywhere …Tannenbaum believes in him enough to stay the course at least 1 or 2 more years …”trade him” …oh yeah …for what? …he’s got a 96mil price tag, a 22mil guarantee for ’16 and one hell of a cap hit …they’ll park his buttocks on the bench first.

…I’m not so sold on Campbell not being our coach next year …what he’s done so far is visible and positive …he was given a raw deal and has made the best of it imnsho …he’s not won enough to make him a sure thing but remember Ross/Tannenbaum hand-picked him …according to reports Ross had him ear-marked long before he pulled the plug on Philbin …there will be a search but Campbell will be included unless there is a complete melt-down …unless they can land a sure thing (is there such an entity?), I think they might well stay with what they know.

…this loss was on the defense …the secondary …as noted its obvious Grimes is either playing hurt or past his prime …and when they had to go to their back-up cb, well he didn’t show up …left Beckham wide open for the winning score …Dunner probably gets that right …a CB will be high on the draft board

…but good god gerty, when are we ever going to fix the OL …and how? Thomas is done here …this year is on him more than any other single player imnsho …he was toasted so many times I lost count …we could have had a pro-bowl guard instead but the HC/OC were sold on Thomas …what a pair of maroons they turned out to be!

…we have so many needs between the OL and the defensive backs …and not enough cap room to keep our home grown talent, let alone buy pro-bowl caliber free agents.

      …and someone wants to use a 1st rounder on a QB? …riiiigggghhht!

…think about it …what if we’d used our first 2 picks last year on the OL instead of a WR that didn’t start until the season was over and a DT that never started? …that’s on Tannenbaum and Hickey …and unless Ross has a complete personality transplant, they’ll be making the picks again in ’16 …makes my head hurt, it does.

      • admin

The Wr and Dt pick were future considerations on a team that was in must win now. Made no sense on a strategic level. Oline and Cb were obvious holes. I sort of get hey, we cant fill it all and our passrush will onset our secondary weakness. Guard is a whole different subject. Starting Jamil was insane Turner, as sad as it is , is light years better. Same thing happened last year. Pouncy at guard killed 2 or 3 games with his play.

  • Phinfreak

If you think Ross has the intellect to fix this mess you’re still enjoying that spliff.

Tannenbaum is the one that has to clean house. Yes, Tannenbaum. He isn’t going anywhere and he has a history of very good pics in draft ( even Sanchez who’s played in more playoff games that Tannehill at same point in career).

This roster is going to focus on somehow resigning two players, Miller and Vernon.

Wake is done without a major pay cut.

Grimes should get cut then resigned as nickle for minimum.

Any other FA will not be signed. They all suck.

Question is who will be hired as HC?

Who will be brought in to compete /push Tandy?

How will they fix the D and OL via draft?

Tannenbaum can/has made good picks in past but these are significant problems that will linger for years.

    • admin

Freak didn’t you say it would be a miracle if Tannehill got 100yrds? That game wasn’t lost, but given away…McCain went down and that changed the second half with Taylor in. You projected destruction…wasn’t that at all. They just didn’t have what it takes in crunch in depth, talent and exp. Maybe that spliff is going both ways?

      • Phinfreak

Tanny missed plenty. 61% comp rate. Wonderful. He got 230 against a bad pass D.

I also said Miller needed +150.

The midget CB got poned again.

The OC did his best imitation of Lazor abandoning the run in 2nd half.

The OL can’t remember the snap count.

For a HC who played TE how could he feature a bum who drops passes and fumbles?

On D … Well let’s match up our midget in man coverage to one of the hottest WRs.

Finally Tannehill proved beyond doubt he can’t strap the team on his shoulders and lead to a win.

        Blow it up.

        • admin

your an old time football guy…funny how these days 61% is missing plenty. Miller could have had the 150 if he had gotten the ball second half. All in all most of what you say is correct, but it was still a 7 point game. Landry’s drop on the come back, Landry not giving the D 15, early drops would have altered Tannehill’s stat sheet and maybe the game. The team does need to be blown up because all the maybe, could have, should have were not turned into was. My basic premise is even with the holes on this team. A good coach using the proper schemes on o and d and this would have been a far better team…still would need alot, but far better.

I am having write this for a second time due to having to use a particular sign-in site. I hate it !
Anyway, here is who I thought played like crap ( again ).

Jamar Taylor # 22 CB ( again and again )
    Michael Thomas # 31 S
    Jason Fox # 74 RT ( again )
    Brent Grimes # 21 CB ( again )
Dallas Thomas # 63 LG ( again and again and again )
    Billy Turner # 77 RG

I will have to watch the game again, but there are others ).

What has happened to Terrence Fede 78 DE ? Here is what perplexes and frustrates me. From where I
sit, the defense seems worse than the offense of that is at all possible! What happened to our conditioning ? It used to be a core principle of Shula’s teams. Suh was winded the whole second half.
I think this is a upcoming season for a total demolition of the this team. ( The word team used loosely here ). And what in the name of all that’s Holy has happened to Brent Grimes. Is he injured worse than we have been told ? The man can no long run or jump with the big boys.I think Dan Carpenter
could be a decent coach given time – but does this team have time ? We all know that Mr. Ross is the boss, and will get what he wants. But what he wants is a winner and money will not always buy happiness. Is Tannebaum going to be the Big Cheese next year. Then hasn’t that already relegated the GM to the reduced role of selling seats and popcorn ? How many feel the answer is bringing in the NEXT COOL COACH ? Give me a break. There are no coaching giants that would come here when this team is in such a state of flux. Is there ? Somehow I don’t think that a new stadium roof is gonna’do it !
This is going to be a really long, tedious, excruciating off-season for this organization doncha’ know ? Oh’ well………..Go Dolphins………! Carry on troops…………

    • admin

all but Turner as he is a functional back up. But, yeah…the holes on the team (along with Landry’s immaturity) swallowed the game.
