Tunsil’s Contract Ridiculously “Cheap”

Tunsil's contract is ridiculously cheap for a top 5 talent.

Tunsil’s contract is ridiculously cheap for a top 5 talent.

The Dolphins are getting a steal in price/talent ratio, through Tunsil’s contract.

Laremy Tunsil’s contract is ridiculously cheap for his talent. In the area of team building, this is a big win for Miami.

According to NFL.com, Laremy Tunsil’s contract is in the range of “Last year’s 13th pick, Saints tackle Andrus Peat, who signed a four-year, fully guaranteed $11.39 million contract.”

Yes fans, the Dolphins just acquired a starting guard and eventual left tackle for the next four years for less than $3mill a year.

The low-end 5yr option is a nice cherry on top of Tunsil’s contract for the Fins.

And it gets even better because, “As is the case with all first-round picks, the deal comes with a team option in the fifth year.” That fifth-year option will be extremely reasonable as it is outside the top 10 of the first-round picks.

Regardless of whether it was luck or good preparation, IF Laremy Tunsil can play up to his potential and stay away from gas masks filled with weed smoke, then Miami will end up with one of the best picks ever when factoring in price and talent. Yes, the scales for rookies have gone down tremendously, but considering the talent level and the fact it could end up a 5yr contract, the Dolphins and their fans have won BIG!

From Tunsil’s standpoint, it hurts because he lost a lot of money said the best pay per head bookie. He will certainly have a chance to make good in the long run, and he isn’t going to be hurting for funds if he is wise. But, given the brevity of a player’s career and the chance it can end all too soon, he ended up with the “short end” of the stick, for sure.  But, life can’t have winners without loser. So, I am glad Miami was the winner on this. Hope a trend that continues. Go Fins!!!

…that’s a very brief overview of the contract …I hope that its incentive laden such that Tunsil can earn substantially more if he starts say 14 games, makes pro-bowl, allows no more than 2 sacks, etc etc

…what I don’t want is Tunsil turning into a star and then an unhappy player because of money, ala Jones …he was never going to get top money but if they were smart, they gave him incentives to perform as well as earn his loyalty

…and don’t go pushing that guard line too hard eh, I still think he starts the opening game at tackle and James goes to guard …just my opinion, worth exactly what it cost ya’ 🙂

it’s fully guaranteed and that’s a huge advantage. No matter what he gets 12 mill tax free thanks to Florida…but, yeah, if he is good they’d sign him long term before the 5th yr option.
