‘The Temptation Of Steven Ross’: Miami Hosts 2020 Super Bowl

Is the temptation of the Phins playing in a home Super Bowl too much for Steven Ross to allow a ‘tank’?

Will Steven Ross stay out of football decisions

Steven Ross is both the owner and a fan of the Miami Dolphins. He’s spent billions to put the team on the field. You can bet that he despises the Dolphins lack relevancy and longs to see them win a Super Bowl as much as you and I…

… Maybe even more.

Unfortunately, Ross’ boneheaded interfering over the course of his ownership has hallmarked the Dolphins dysfunctionality. Even though this meddling stemmed from a misguided belief he was making the right decisions, Ross is the primary culprit for the last decade of failure.

The lure of success, love of his team, vast finances spent, and desire for admiration from fans was a trap that, so far, has ‘gotten’ Ross every time.

You can make a sure bet with the pay per head bookie software service like AcePerHead.com we will go nowhere until this changes.

For those geeks out there, Google the Greek word ‘Hamartia’ to put a ‘tragic hero’ flavor on Ross’ ownership…

… up to this point that is.

Winning a Super Bowl at home as an owner would be a real feather in Ross’ cap

A Phinsnews reader, David Holcomb, had this comment in a recent article: “All we need are a couple of good QBs and we can make a serious run for a “HOME SUPERBOWL”!  I GUARANTEE that if Miami gets ANY above average QBs… Miami will win their division next season!”

You can check out his thoughts in the article for a thorough look at his point of view and make your own judgment.

I will 1000% agree that quality QB play was/ is a major missing factor, but I disagree that Miami should forgo an overhaul for a ‘serious run’.

Despite being contrary to my desire to rebuild, I appreciated David’s comment. Beyond whether Miami could or could not succeed on a retool, our discussion led me down some paths I hadn’t previously considered:

  • The Super Bowl was so far from my mind I didn’t even realize we were hosting in 2020.
  • Ross over the years has mirrored David’s sentiments.: a hopeful fan believing Miami is a QB and a few pieces away. This is both comforting and disturbing.
  • Having a Super Bowl at home with a new regime and “tank” on the menu must be a bitter pill to swallow for Ross. The decision to rebuild (if Ross actually allows one) will be all the more admirable due to this temptation.
  • Either staying the course despite the temptation or going back to the previous formula with the owner superseding Chris Grier would be the defining moment for Ross as an owner.
Until this point, Steven Ross has seemed a hapless but well-meaning owner

When the 2018 Miami Dolphins Season ended, Ross did something rare for owners: He took ownership of his mistakes. Ross earned my respect as a fan because of this type of leadership… And he’ll keep it as long as he stays out of football decisions.

Ross had the stones to do what was right…

… Now he must have the stones to stick to his guns and stay out of football affairs.

Whether a QB is the missing link like David believes or “tank and gutting” is the right move, I just hope the ‘football guys’ are finally making the decision. To be truthful, Super Bowls and ‘serious runs’ aren’t even on my radar this season. The only thing I hope for in 2019 is that this franchise finally crawls out from the swamp of dysfunction. Go Phins!!!

I have proof people. Without making any other changes the New Orleans Saints went from a 3-13 record to a 13-3 record by simply changing their QB!
Yes after a dismal 3-13 season; the Saints signed Drew Breeze and went from a 3-13 season to a 13-3 season and they went and won the superbowl; without making any other changes!
The Miami dolphins can do the same thing and host a HOME SUPERBOWL!

I have proof for my hypothesis people! Do you remember the year before the New Orleans Saints went to the Superbowl. Well their record was 3-13. Then a hero came to town by the name of Drew Breeze.
Then the following year something no one expected to happen, happened. The New Orleans Saints went from a 3-13 to a 13-3 record the following season and the only change that was made, was the QUARTERBACK!
Therefore, I say again; on offense, the only change we have needed to make for years is QB; I GUARANTEE IT. We can have 3 good QBs on the team this season and not have to fear injuries: (SIGN: Josh Rosen or Teddy Bridgewater / Draft: Daniel Jones or Tyler Murray and we already have Luke Falk) We should let those 3 compete for the starting and backup job. I also GUARANTEE; that I can help get Miami into the superbowl this coming season. I am available for hire as an advisor and assistant to the offensive coordinator.
