The One position of Dire need for the Dolphins that no one is talking about

The Dolphins still have some holes to fill, and lucky for them at the end of the month they will get the chance to hopefully fill some of those holes through the draft. Many football gambling fans believe that Miami will use their first round draft pick to select a wide receiver, linebacker or cornerback, which are all high priority positions for them. However, another position that is a high priority, but no one seems to think they will select in the first round is Guard, and this should not be ruled out.

I will start out by saying that I would be disappointed if we used the 14th pick in the draft to select a guard, however I can accept it, and it should not be a surprise if we do. At the moment our two starting guards for 2015 are second year player Billy Turner who played a total of 17 snaps last season, and Dallas Thomas who was a disaster all season last year and was ranked as one of the worst guards in the NFL. So forgive me if I feel worried about both guard positions. Hopefully one of these two players can turn the corner and step it up next season and become a decent starting guard, but sadly I do not feel confident that both can improve to the point of being serviceable. With that being said Guard may be the biggest need on the entire team, especially considering we might need two.

The question then will be if the best Guard in the draft, Brandon Scherff from Iowa is still on the board at the number 14th spot,  will Miami yet again go the boring but necessary path of selecting an offensive lineman in the first round? If the top three wide receivers have already been selected, along with the best linebacker, and cornerback, than Miami may be forced to take Scherff, because it would make too much sense not to select one of the best players available and at a position of dire need. But even if the top three wide receivers, or linebacker and cornerback are not taken Miami still may decide to go the safer route and select Scherff.

Scherff is the clear cut number one ranked guard in the upcoming draft and he is a very tough run blocker. Also top linemen in the draft are unquestionably year after year the least risky position in terms of being studs in the NFL. So even though a lot of phins fans, including myself may not be thrilled with selecting another offensive lineman in the draft, it may be a necessary evil, especially if they can select the best one in the entire draft. As much as I would not be excited about the selection, I would understand it and I would be able to live with it, because the result would be we would be, barring any injury, be pretty much guaranteed to have a new starting guard in Scherff.

The other possibility is that if Miami does like Scherff that much and he still is on the board, they may decide to gamble and trade back to obtain more picks and select Scherff a few spots later. That would be more digestible, but trading back can also led to missing out on a prospect because another team snatched him up before you finally decided to make the selection. What is the rest of Miami Dolphins news fans thoughts and feelings on if Miami decides to use their first round pick on the best Guard in the draft Brandon Scherff?

This should be our pick if he’s there at 14. Think of all the 3rd and 4’s fins will be able to call a run play. All the 3rd and 1 and 4th and 1 and goaline plays fins can run on. It’s a difference maker on day one vs a diva (WR or CB).
See what Cowboys did in draft w OL.

Good point Freak; however, Dallas would not have made the playoffs without a true #1 WR. They have that in Bryant. You can have the best O-Line in the game, but if you do not have the threat of going over the top, teams will stack the box and no matter what line you have 5 can not block 8 period.

Would not be an exciting pick, but understand and realize our team definitely would be better. If it is going to be a guard, let them trade back to get an extra pick or two, then take their guard.

Logic tells us the draft will not produce 4 Players that can be starters on day One
But that is what se need:
    ILB, RB, WR, Guard
    maybe 2 guards
If we stay at 14 we do not get any additional draft picks
Lots of folks will not like it but we are probably going to have to trade back and take second or third best in order to get at least 4 starters
Then we should also get a CB and a safety although we have those positions covered we definitely could use an upgrade
This is going to be a draft where we might have to be ready to trade back twice
The only way we keep our pick at 14 is if we are confident we can sign a free agent or two free agents that fill our needs (or trade for them)
This is a real challenge to hickey but I trust he has a good plan depending on how the draft unfolds
This is where I hope Hickey will show us why he is the right man for the job

Kid is a monster. Gym freak. Nasty demeanor. Likes to pancake and bury his opponent. Would give our line a hell of an identity with Albert, Scherrf, Pouncey, Turner, and James. They do say it starts in the trenches. I would not be upset at all. Makes the whole offense better. I doubt he’ll be there. Too many teams need help at the O-line. I would take Gurley before him though if the top 3 WRs are gone.

Schreff is a pancake beast when it comes to blocking. And he cause straight thru the whistle, and has a big motor
