Spring Cleaning

The Dolphins will be entering the new league season in March with little cap space, however, they have quite a few expensive players that could all be shown the door, considering almost all of them have not played at a level that would coincide with their expensive contracts. That list includes Brian Hartline, Brandon Gibson, Cortland Finnegan, Randy Starks, Dannell Ellerbe, Nate Garner, Philip Wheeler, and Mike Wallace. If all of these players are cut at the correct times based on their contract stipulations, then Miami can save roughly $30 million in cap room.

Luckily for Dawn Aponte, Dennis Hickey, and Mike Tannenbaum, this should be an easy decision on everyone accept for Mike Wallace. I will make this very simple for our organization, get rid of all of them accept Mike Wallace, he is the only one that was productive. The rest of these guys are not getting any younger, and their best years are behind them. Hartline and Gibson were basically nonexistent this season, Finnegan has been battling injuries for the last few years and is contemplating retirement, Starks has been in the league for 11 years, which is like a dinosaur, and he is starting to play like a dinosaur as well, Ellerbe missed the whole season, and did not even come close to the production sports gambling fans were hoping for, Garner is merely a backup guy, and Wheeler is way overpaid, and frankly not very good. Again Mike Wallace was the only player that sports gambling fans could argue that at least produced plays and 10 touchdowns, however, he may be a bit too outspoken for this organization’s liking.

These cuts need to be made and should be made because this team still has holes to fill, and between free-agency, and the draft they will have the opportunity to get better. However, they will need to have cap space so they can afford to get better, by paying for top talent. They will also need to have another solid draft. Hickey nailed his first two picks, however, the rest of the players that he drafted, the jury is still out on them. The other positive is that Hickey did a good job of finding undrafted talent so most free bookie software fans would think he may able to uncover a few more undrafted gems. What does the rest of phins fans think about cutting all this dead weight from the team, and give a boost to Miami’s war chest?

I dont care for any players on this list. The question becomes does this management staff simply find other duds as replacements, simply changing the names but not the talent/productivity.

They cant replace everyone in one draft and FA’s are very expensive to sign ergo that list.

So I dont think much changes on the field by basically switching names with other FA castoffs.

I am for cutting/trading/releasing each and every player that Jimmy mentioned, including Wallace (would use the #14 pick to get one of the top 3 WR’s in this years draft, conversation for another day).

Brian Hartline – only produced in Sherman’s offense, can not create separation, and for whatever reason dropped a lot of passes this year (emotional decision)

Brandon Gibson – at time didn’t know if he were even active for the game (easy decision)

Cortland Finnegan – to bad he couldn’t stay healthy, could be a nice combo w/Grimes; however, can’t take that chance (restructure, thus easy decision)

Randy Starks – Father time has caught up with him and doesn’t require a double team (emotional, but easy decision)

Dannell Ellerbe – like his passion, thats where it ends though (easy decision)

Nate Garner – health concerns (restructure, thus easy decision)

Philip Wheeler – reminds me of a fast youth football player (easy decision)

Mike Wallace – I like Wallace the football player, that’s where it ends though, we have a young roster and role models/mentors are needed. Not to mention BIG $ player (easy decision)

Spring cleaning is never any fun, but it should be exciting for the Dolphins this year, not easy for the men forwarding the decisions. If all said players are cut/released/traded our roster is not in bad condition. With a few strategic moves Hickey could position this team for success starting as soon as next year.

I am one that is looking forward to spring, and the cleaning that should take place. Can finally ride ourselves of Ireland’s miss management.

Yes I agree with you Dunner, and by release all these players not only will we create around 30 million in cap space, but we will not lose that much production from our team. Wallace is really the only player on the list that produced, besides him it shouldnt be that hard to find younger, cheaper and better talent

Yes. I agree completely, the only one to keep for sure is Wallace. One could argue keeping Hartline if he restructures his contract. He had a down year but he is pretty solid especially on 3rd downs
