Sacked!!

288FINS1228 SACK CTJ

Sunday’s game against the Colts can be coined with a single term – SACKED. Now, James and Pouncy weren’t in so this wasn’t the official lineup, but how many teams across the league have had their O-Line tested with injuries and at least stayed competitive. Not the Dolphins though. They turned their QB into a Pinata and as much as you might dislike T-Hill’s play, you just can’t say jack about his toughness and guts.

Their was the safety and int in the end-zone, by of course Davis, which will linger on Tannehill’s shoulders somewhat. While the pass that turned into a pick should never have been thrown, the int was helped by pressure and the impeding of T-Hill’s follow through, and the safety was the fault of the line not picking up the D-Line’s stunt. Still, both those play’s were pivotal in the Dolphins losing once again and put some questions on T-Hill’s ability to manage the game. But, in the end the O-Line with all it’s high picks and high priced free agents was a shambles and is the epitome of why this regime from top to bottom is far more deserving of being sacked than T-Hill.

Hickey is under fire as the GM, but in  this “system” of management Tannenbaum as V.P. of Operations has an abnormal amount of influence and the heat needs to be turned up by the fans about his culpability is this fiasco. It doesn’t take a football gambling expert to see no single member of management or coaching or player is the reason for this debacle of a season, but Tannenbaum is the last stop before Ross and in essence is the overriding architect of this team…at least that’s what it seems – much like T-Hill’s ability to call audibles: twenty different answers on a simple question.

That’s the thing. Even simple concepts and organizational aspect are convoluted. That’s what this regime is a mess…complete FUBAR. Ross has one opportunity to rescue the rest of this decade by cleaning house all the way up to Tannenbaum and letting someone with football knowledge setting a football system and not a corporate one.  Will it happen? Rumors are flying that Tannenbaum is likely to stay…if so, this mess will probably continue into the next decade.

He loves those mobile QB’s! He would have done a much better job on T-Hill…but, I think his time is done in the NFL. It would be bad PR (and most owners dont have the balls to pull the trigger) then their is his seeming lack of connection with player (true or not) that might be a stigma for a team rich with stygmas. BUT, if he were just the coach and here instead of Philbust we’d have a much better couple of seasons.

    …whoa!!!!

…the Eagles fired Chip Kelly …one bad season and he’s gone …despite going 10-6 the prior 2 years …he’s a wild card …a gamble …but then who won’t be?

I would be fine with a decision to bring in Chip Kelly because our offensive skill players actually suit his system very well. I would feel even better if we had retained Hickey, a competent talent evaluator, since that is not Kelly’s forte. Between Landry, Parker, and Matthews we have three excellent starting WR and stills as a competent backup, and if we had a decent OL so Jordan Cameron did not have to be back pass protecting all the time and had a chance to develop some chemistry with Tannehill he could go back to being a Pro Bowl level TE with Sims as a good developing TE. Kelly would be a great OC and it would be worth having him as a head coach just to get his offense. I understand that it is not proven in the NFL but he did have a winning record overall – and let us remember that Bellichick failed in Cleveland and came back great in NE. I would rather get Sean Payton but I could live with Chip Kelly.

…its all Tannehill’s fault, etc etc etc adinfinitum

…Tannehill is the best fins QB since Marino …stick your opinions and look at the stats

…if this FO had fixed the coaching and OL problem from last year, we’d be in the playoffs now and singing a different tune …but no, Thomas the Turnstile was gonna be great and we didn’t need Mathis

…and Brees gets to refuse any trade …you think at 37 he’s going to volunteer to come to Miami? …behind this OL? …Brees would be on IR in a heartbeat …he’d retire first

…if only we could fire Ross …but then that’s what we said about the last owner, eh

…this entire organization sucks …and its not all Tannehill’s fault …not even a little bit

With Tannenbaum all but locked into returning with his friend Ross…neither Payton or Brees is coming. Yes, T-Hill is the best Qb since Marino, BUT at this point what is that saying…not much. Better system, better development, better line, better QB – how much better? It’s a guess. Reality is with T-Hill locked in for next year AND Tannenbaum it could be a severe limiting factor on the coaches and/ or GM that would want the job. T-Hill will get 18mill in 17, even if he is the best since Marino that still doesn’t equal 18 mill or 15% of the cap.

The problem with Tannehill is simple
He does not have a grip yet on throwing lobs be them medium or long passes
He is great at throwing bullets though
He can throw a straight bullet as good as anyone else but not all throws are bullets
He needs to learn how to throw an accurate lob or a ball that arcs
Unfortunately after 4 years I feel like he is just not capable of doing that
    Also his pocket awareness stinks
In the safety he saw that player coming for him unblocked but realized he does not have a quick enough release to get rid of the ball
So he crouched and took the safety
Quickness in throwing cannot be learned you either have it or not
Dan Marino had one of the quickest releases of any QB and in half a second could throw the ball away and avoid the sack
Whether we keep him in 2016 or trade him we should not raise our expectations
    We have too many needs
By the time we get 2 good guards we will need a left tackle or center
    They say defenses win games
We need 2 new good corners a safety and at least 2 linebackers
It can be all done this off season but the odds with Tannebaum running the show are almost non existent

T-Hill has problems…not an elite QB, but his development sucked and he was given a jackass system for his skillset. I think he could be a functional QB in the proper system with a few years of unscrewing him up from bad coaching. We need tons of stuff, BUT a good staff could turn this team around and make it a disciplined and competitive team that in a coupe of years could be greater. The main thing is to get the system in place.

Jimmy, this article does come off as excuses for Tanny. Don’t get me wrong, last weeks O-Line was horrendous at best. But, the INT was not due to the line, that was location. All the safety’s are not due to the O-Line either, regardless pressure or not, the good QBs know/see/feel the pressure coming. Not Tannehill, he just doesn’t have “it”. We need to move this off-season some how some way.

Dunner, the kid got jacked and stood upright. You have to have an even hand to be fair. But, the deeper issue is the leadership. Tannenbaum (self professed not a football guy) is in essence the overseer and I find it difficult to have him run the show. How do you know if a coach is right if you don’t understand his football stances? I believe it was you who said about him bragging about not signing Mathis. That saying so much. T-Hill might not ever be elite…but look at Fitz over with the Jets. Good regimes put their people in the best positions to win. They went all in on T-Hill with contract and WR’s and an RB…but, forgot the line?! That is madden football. They horribly missed on Jamil at LG (C maybe), they missed on Dallas at LG in a pass happy system, they missed on getting quality T backups even with them going into the season with Albert down. Beyond T-Hill who due to his contract and position is THE most central figure, the organizational decision making process, the structure in which it comes and those who implement it is the most critical failing. And with Tannenbaum at the top of the list, it’s his job to get it right..if Ross is then screwing up, we re likely never to know. But for now, as the top dog, this years fiasco is on his lap.

Ralph, As Bad As our owner is he could make his boldest move since hes been here. Tannehill can be traded, but in most cases only for a player to off set the dead $ hit. A trade for Drew Brees could happen.

Per Miami Hearld: “Drew Brees in 2016 will be in the final year of a deal that must pay him $19.75 million and cost $30 million against the cap. So to trade Brees for Tannehill, the Saints would have to swallow $10 million in dead money to do this trade. But they would save $20 million against the cap”.

This trade would save them about $9 million in cap space. It works for their cap.

The Dolphins would save $2.4 million by dealing Tannehill in cap space, although they would have to carry $9.2 million in dead money.

If Brees would restructure for say 3 years, then his cap hit could be as low as 3.4 million in ’16, that is it, all said and done and we move on.

Why would New Orleans do the trade: because N.O. is going to take a 30 million $ cap hit in ’16 and he is going to be 37 next season. Miami could sell that Tannehills struggles are due to the O=Line (I have seen to much of him to know that the O=Line would not change his abilities at QB), he is young, and if they don’t like his production after one year they could depart with him due to his contract structure at no cost.

Ross has the chance to make a statement here. He wants to chase around BIG fish coaches to come here. Make this move and he would start to earn some respect from some of the league that he doesn’t have right now.

    Ross heres your chance!!!

Ralph alot of what you say pulls me two ways. Most of what you say is dead on and likely, but I am hoping it’s not (from a fan’s standpoint). From a football standpoint I disagree on two things, first Parker…bad pick because you loaded up on position that didn’t need it. Again, it was due to bad evaluation on Matthews. They didn’t know what they had. Talent wise and going forward, if his foot heals, for the next regime, from a talent perspective he might end up a good pick. T-Hill has his flaws, all well known, BUT a good coach would have developed him better (audible from the start, not coddling him, ect) and built a system that accentuated his strengths and limited his weakness’. Instead they tried to fit a round beg in a square hole. Was 9th pick too high for him? Most QB’s are drafted too high. The Ross part is the worst…I see Tannenbaum as his friend and that’s never a good working relationship. Tannenbaum is not a football guy, he is a corporate schmoozer and with him as the last line to Ross that’s very scary. Ross will probably screw it with Tannenbaum as two corporate suits does not a good football decision make-but I pray it goes different.

Why would New Orleans possibly get rid of Drew Brees, a local hero and still one of the top three QBs in the entire NFL, when winning requires a great QB? Makes no sense.

Similarly while Tannehill is not in the same class with Drew Brees, Tannehill is good enough to win IF Miami develops a good OL and a good running game (and fixes our run defense). The last thing Miami needs to do is to drive the bus entirely off the bridge by exiting a pretty good QB (who may get better when he has an OL) when they have no alternative. We saw in the game today against the Patriots the even Tom Brady cannot score when he has no OL. It is absurd to expect that Tannehill with an OL much worse than New England (consistently bad for Tannehill’s whole tenure) would be able to do better than Brady – one of the all time great QBs.

      • admin

Agree thinker…Payton might walk and maybe even Brees if enough was thrown at the Saints. BUT, I doubt Brees would come here, and even if he did at our current state he would be effective. Not sure if Tannenbaum is retooling or rebuilding. It will all depend on their valuation of T-Hill.

Yes our beloved team is in trouble
We have bad ownership who makes bad decisions
    Tannebaum is a looser period
He does not deserve to run this team
But Ross is going to keep him and that will hinder hiring a new coach and also he will meddle in the selection of players to our detriment
We don’t need high priced free agents
We just need good drafts were you pick up 4 to 5 starters each year and some solid backups
Unfortunately we have not done that
2013 and 2015 drafts were complete busts
Jordan in 2013 and Parker in 2015 neither worthy of first round selection
Plus now we are stuck with Tannehill because of the incredibly stupid contract that Tannebaum gave him when we did not need to since he still could play this year under his rookie contract – why did he do that ? There really is no good reason except that again he did not use common sense
Same with the non signing of the best guard in the NFL to replace the worst guard in the NFL
Yes Dallas has been labeled the absolute worst guard in the NFL again this year
So what does that tell us about Tannebaum’s decision making – very suspect at the least and horribly stupid at the worst
So should we have hope – no not at all
As long as he is calling the shots we will get mediocre players or bad ones and overpay them
He will set this team back for many more years because of his poor judgement on players and salaries – ohh he will make a big splash again to call attention to himself but it’s all hipe whoever he gets will not want to prove anything so we will end up with less than a 50/50 record again until he is gone and we get another Shula type coach / GM to make the decisions
Ross will not fire him until next year
Always too late and then he will hire another idiot because Ross can be convinced of anything by a good talker (Tannebaum and Philbin)
Our first and second round picks should be guard middle linebacker and or corner and not in that order – watch Tannebaum screw this up also and get something else
Mr Ross please please fire Tannebaum now not next year Hickey can pick the players and Aponte should negotiate the contracts not Tannebaum he has proven his ineptness

  • Phinfreak

You’re making excuses for T Hill. Typical homerism. He holds the ball too long. Has a slow release, is hesitant and can’t “feel” pressure till he’s on the ground.

Yes the OL sucks but the safety was THill not feeling nor anticipating pressure and he held the ball waaay too long. His bad.

The pic was an under throw. No arc on a deep corner end zone fade pattern. His bad.

Ross and his yes-men are all idiots and incapable of evaluating talent.

This team is decades away from a 10 win season.

    • admin

No, not making excuses, simply giving honest evaluation…homerism or anti-homerism (as in your case) leads to emotional conclusions. All the things you have mentioned as handicaps were mentioned in previous articles as were the two passes in this article. Now the pick was due to pressure limiting the full arc of his release, BUT (as the article said) the pass should have never been thrown as the corner was covering stride for stride with an over edge and that’s not the time to throw it, unless the ball placement is behind the receiver. Either way the kid is tough as nails…I don’t see how that is an excuse. Again, this wasn’t a T-Hill article it was an article about the team construction and how the sack problem should have the head of it’s construction sacked.
