Reality Check

Coming into this 2014 season the goal for the Miami Dolphins was to make the playoffs. Now that the Dolphins are almost a third of the way through the season, the goal is still to make the playoffs, however with a 2-3 record the reality of that goal occurring is fading very fast.

Based on 5 games so far this season, I would say that the Dolphins are not going to make the playoffs and do not deserve to make the playoffs. There is only two wild card spots and frankly I really do not see how they would get one of those spots. Denver is 4-1 and San Diego is 5-1, one of those teams is going to win the AFC West and the other is pretty much a lock to secure one of the 2 wild card spots, as long as Rivers or Manning does not have a season ending injury. After starting the season 0-2 the Colts have rebounded and won their last 4 games and will in all likelihood win the AFC South. The Texans are 3-3 and will be lurking on the outside to fight for one of the wild card spots. Every team in the AFC North has 3 wins which is more than the Dolphins, and which ever team comes in second will more then likely have at least 9-10 wins.

At the moment the Dolphins are currently sitting in 3rd place in the AFC East and they are a game and a half behind the Patriots. The one silver lining thing in this case is that the Dolphins have already beaten the Patriots, so if they can somehow steal another victory from the Patriots then they would have a huge advantage in the tie-breaker department. The Patriots, Bills and Dolphins are all 1-1 in the AFC East and each of those teams have 4 more division games to be played.

The only possible way I see Miami getting into the playoffs is by some how beating the Patriots out for the AFC East Crown. Most sports gambling fans would say if Miami can find a way to win their 4 remaining AFC East match-ups, then they would definitely help their chances of winning the division. Personally I can not see them winning the rest of their AFC East games. They have shown that they can not beat Buffalo, and there is little reason to think anything will change by the time of their next matchup. The Jets, even though they look pitiful this season, have always given the Dolphins a tough game, so the fair assessment is that they will split their 2 games with the Jets. In regards to the Patriots, the Dolphins have already beaten them once, which means the odds of them going into New England in Mid-December and winning for the second time this season are not very high.

On paper the Dolphins are still alive, and have a chance to make the playoffs, and have 11 games left to make this a reality. However, the odds are definitely stacked against them, and if they can not find a way to start playing consistently better, and start closing out and winning tight games, then they do not deserve to make the playoffs.

Dolphins can make the playoffs. If they can correct the offensive non productivity then I would say that the Dolphins are a great team with untapped achievement and ability. I believed that Coach Philpin has developed and Tannehill has evolved since the Green Bay loss more so than any Pro Game that he has played and Philpin has Coach.

I’m confident that he will lead this Dolphins team into the play offs. The Defense is Great! and the Special teams are very good. The Dolphins have already beat the Pats. They have proved that they can play with the best teams in the league. That’s my take ( I keep saying this is a special Dolphins team 2014).
