Phins Wild, Sloppy, Exciting, Epic Win v.s. Da’ Bears

Say what you want about the 2018 Phins… they are 4-2 after this epic win

Albert Wilson played a key role in the Dolphins epic win

Albert Wilson played a key role in the Dolphins epic win

The Dolphins epic win against a tough Bears team gave Dolphins fans a game to remember… but more importantly, it brought hope that the 2018 Season was long from being over.

I was a full-blown manic-depressive, ‘Phins are going to win! Nooooo, they are going to lose. Holy $%!&, they are going to win… Ohh man, another choke coming. What? They WON!’

Dolphins haven’t had a game like this, and won, in a long, long time. Doesn’t it feel good?

It was wild, exciting, sloppy… and epic. You can’t say any longer that this team doesn’t have talent or heart. The Dolphins may be dumb at times, but this team is by no means garbage… unless they choose to be.

Miami SHOULD be 5-1, but 4-2 ain’t too shabby

Now let’s be clear: Phins can’t win in this fashion week in and week out. Osweiler had a terrible pick, Gase again made a bonehead series of calls to end the 4th Qtr, the refs need their eyes checked, and Drake made a horrendous fumble. Phinsnews has been saying this since last year: The Dolphins must play cleaner football… and if they do, they’ll be fine.

But sloppy or not, how can you not tip your hat to the fortitude this team has shown?

The 2018 team will not end like last year.

Miami has made late additions that are having a serious impact

Travis Swanson and Nick O’Leary haven’t received their due in Dolphins circles… other than at Phinsnews. They will now and going forward. Their contribution can’t be underestimated. Together, both have helped stabilize this Offensive Line… and maybe make it a real strength.

The inside run game is the key to this season.

An effective inside rushing attack gives many benefits. One benefit that’s key for this team is that it loosens up the flanks for Dolphins skills like Grant and Wilson to operate in space. And when Wilson is given some space, man is he something. It time to give credit where credit is due. This was all Adam Gase’s idea to bring Wilson to South Florida. That $24 million used to bring him here looks like a steal.

Are you kidding me? The Dolphins just racked up 164 yards on the #1 run defense in the league. Yes, it was over the course of 5 Qtrs, but there’s no denying this was an effective run game against a tough front… for two weeks in a row. Interesting kawinkydink: this sudden growth in the run game coincides with Swanson and O’Leary being elevated to starting role. Coincidence? I think not.

Things could be getting brighter fast

Miami has a string of very winnable games coming up: at home games against the Lions and Jets and on the road against the Texans. While they should win all three, their tendency to play sloppy doesn’t make it a safe bet with the pay per head services that they will. But the beautiful thing is they just might. Hope is in South Florida. Let me say it again, there’s genuine hope here now, folks that the Dolphins will be relevant at the end of the season. Dare I say Post Season?! Go Phins!!!

More and more Gase is starting to instill that Patriots feel (next man up). Picking up players that were on the street weeks ago (O’Leary, Swanson) and getting HUGE play from them.
I believe that we have found the M.Gray replacement in O’Leary. Gase’s offense is at its best when he can run 21 personal (2 TEs, 1 RB). O’Leary is the perfect every down TE, can block, get open, catch the ball, and he wasn’t even on a team weeks ago??? That has only been something Billacheat pulls off.
Speaking of O’Leary, if he can settle in as the blocking all around TE, that may free up Gesicki, allowing Gase to utilize Geseki’s strengths a little more.
How about the O-Line???? Where did that come from??? Tunsil/James lights out??? Maybe an extension for James should be considered (must do now to save $ though).
Landry who??? No way are we sitting here at 4-2 if we had Landry and not Wilson and/or Amendola. Like what Landry brought competitive wise, but he would have never taken screen passes/bubble passes the distance. Amendola is always where he needs to be, especially on third downs. Everyone questioned their signing of 2 WRs in free agency, seems that there was a plan the whole time. WELL DONE!!!
People that thought the Gore signing was just a hometown gesture were mistaken. He is a North/South RB and has made a difference in the season already.
Praying that Rashaad Jones can make it through the season/playoffs with his torn Labrum. He is the general to that defense. Irreplaceable!!!
Our youngsters on defense are progressing quite nicely. V.Taylor may be the most underrated player on the roster.
Have a winnable game coming this Sunday, but must play solid mistake free to get the W. With a “W” Sunday they could set themselves up for a interesting Thursday night game.

“How about the O-Line???? Where did that come from??? Tunsil/James lights out??? Maybe an extension for James should be considered (must do now to save $ though).”

Swanson is able to block alone and that allowed help to roll outside. James and Tunsil def. stepped up as well, but O’leary is a much better blocker than either rook. All of this combined has brought the inside zone run game back… which is massive for this team. Gore will feast on this.

“Praying that Rashaad Jones can make it through the season/playoffs with his torn Labrum. He is the general to that defense. Irreplaceable!!!”

After that big 4th down stop he made you could see him in loads of pains… loads…

“People that thought the Gore signing was just a hometown gesture were mistaken. He is a North/South RB and has made a difference in the season already.”

“Our youngsters on defense are progressing quite nicely. V.Taylor may be the most underrated player on the roster.” Best PPF grade DL we have amazing season… was going to do a film study on him this week…

We both loved the move… we are sooo smart 🙂

Landry is excellent… but Wilson’s big lay ability is great… we won on this one big time… did hate that drop by him on 3rd down early though… man, if he could get consistency in his catching down… wow!

    Yes

That was a great win for the Dolphins and it makes me feel really good to see this team fight back for the win. I like what Brock brings to the Dolphins. If this Cat can cleaned up his decision making. Stop forcing the ball, see the entire field, believed in his run game and live to keep the chains moving this will rest the defense and win games.

I truly believed that the Fins has the pieces they only need a field general to lead them. 18 years the Patriots continue to win with less or greater talent. Hopefully this is the beginning of something good. I’m done making excuses! Go Fins!

QB mistakes have been the largest quantity of trouble for the Dolphins. QB big plays haven’t been there much and they have won, so if the QB position could just limit their mistakes this team would see a sizable increase in success. This team has been built for all units to contribute. It’s not riding on one side of the ball. Tannehill has the better skill set but is sloppier with his ball handling and more frantic under pressure. Both throw picks. One of Brock’s was more about Parker sucking. He should have been in the position to break it up. It will take time for this thing to grow. Next year it should be in a much better state if this regime continues to win and returns. They will need a QB, but most of the other pieces are there. Still need to bolster the OL, LB, and QB positions. But this was a big win… let’s see if they can get consistent.

Also, you made the call about O’leary lining up as the H and he picked up a TE off it. Nice call… was planning on doing a O’leary article and using your bit (with credit of course) but got bogged down… I’ll do one this week.

No! We should be 3 & 3 BUT we played am amazing game at home! Osweiller did great! He revealed that Tannehill is a backup quality quarterback, just like himself. Frank Gore is the real hero! He ran his heart out. great win!

Maybe, however; we could be 5-1 as well. That is the NFL, and they played well enough to beat the Bengals if it weren’t for 2 pick 6’s.

If mistakes and luck played a part, in your calculation, on why this win isn’t a ‘win’, why then was the Bengals game not considered a loss for the Bengals last week? I totally agree this sloppy play is highly irregular and not professional, but the reality is Phins were in a strong position in 5 of their 6 games. Only a totally, and rare, meltdown and serious of events led them to a defeat. Anyway, Gore was a strong candidate for ‘hero’… no doubt. I have been high on his play since he was signed. But the OL did a truly masterful job against a fierce front. Albert as well. I think I should have mentioned him… I guess it’s what I expect from his greatness, so I overlook it at times. I’ll give him a strong mention in this next article or so.
