Phins showing interest in Coates even though they shouldn’t

The Dolphins have been kicking the tires on almost every wide receiver that they can find out there. They recently had Wes Welker in for a visit, which was after they had already spoken with Crabtree and Jennings. It begs the question why have they not spoken with Reggie Wayne and Hakeem Nicks yet? Maybe they are next? Since Miami has yet to sign another wide receiver since trading for Kenny Stills, it appears that they are waiting until they see what comes to fruition from the draft at the end of the month. One of their latest visits has come from Wide Receiver Sammie Coates from Auburn.

Coates is 6’1”, 212 pounds, ran the 40 in 4.43 seconds and is projected as high as a 1st round or as low as a 3rd round pick. The best sports betting software providers in the world ( www.AcePerHead.com ) are evaluating Coates as a very raw receiver, that needs to improve in many areas, especially route-running, but who also shows a lot of potentials. His senior season had mixed reviews because he was banged up from injuries, and his team often had problems throwing the football. As a result Coates only caught 34 passes for 741 yards and 4 touchdowns. Clearly the most enticing aspect of Coates is his big-play ability, which is evident from his 21.7 yards per catch average.

For me Coates is not worth the risk in rounds 1 thru 3, the only way I would draft Coates is if he slipped to the 5th or 6th round, and even if he slipped that far in the draft, then there would be a reason for it, so I would much rather select more of a sure thing at the wide receiver position than pick a player like Coates. Miami needs a day one starter if they are going to draft a wide receiver, and Coates has way too many question marks for my liking.

This is an extremely important draft for this organization, and they can not afford to waste precious draft picks on raw players, such as Coates. Drafting a player like Todd Gurley with his health risks is much different because everyone knows that when Gurly is health he is a dominant running back. However, drafting a player like Coates that has a lot of holes in his game is not the type of risk that I or this organization should be willing to take. What do the rest of the Miami Dolphins News fans think about drafting Sammie Coates?

  • Without a offensive line, Tannahill will be in the same position as 2014. He won’t have time to throw!! Tannahill can only run sparingly. We need a running game. 1st round , Gurley or Gordan, second round A corner from MS or Florida States Ronald Darby. Or a offensive lineman Danny Shelton or Brandon Scherff. 4th round safety Jordan Williams. If any of these are on the board take one of the above. We can then look for this Sammie Coates for a receiver. Then have our druggy play middle or outside linebacker Dion our last years pick. Coach Him or let him go!!!!It seem’s like we have gotten away from coaching our player’s. (a mythical person) (Juda Ben Hur), Put the horses in the position we need. COACH THEM.

I’d draft him in the late rounds if he’s still there but I wouldn’t waste any of our picks from rounds 1 – 4 on him.
