Jennings Could be more than what the Phins hoped for

The Dolphins have had an extremely busy off-season, with lots of great player acquisitions, and even though we have spoken about all of them, there is one move in particular that I would like to revisit.

After the recent practices, it appears that he is going to have a much bigger role than most of the boys at the pay per head bookie service sites like AcePerHead.com previously thought. That player is veteran Wide Receiver, Greg Jennings.

The Phins gutted their wide receiving unit this off-season and filled it with young hungry receivers, however, one thing it was lacking was an old vet who could teach the young pups some tricks of the trade. Luckily for Miami, they were able to find that player, and the main reason he became available was ironic because Miami traded Mike Wallace to Minnesota, which then made Greg Jennings expendable for the Vikings. Jennings was a fan of Philbin when they were both in Green Bay, and GM Mike Tannenbaum was the final piece that made Jennings comfortable enough to sign with the phins.

Going into OTA’s a lot of fans were thinking that Jennings was going to be more of a mentor and have a limited role in the offense. However, with rookie Parker having ankle surgery and Stills missing time due to an undisclosed injury, Jennings received a lot of reps.

Jennings has been an absolute superstar so far in practice, catching everything thrown his way, he is able to run every route, play every wide receiver position, and he even has the ability to get deep. He is by far the most polished receiver on the team, and as good as Landry has looked this off-season, Jennings has looked even better.

Jennings has not had a 1,000-yard season since 2010 when he played for the Packers, and that was one of the best seasons of his career where he caught 76 passes for 1,265 yards and 12 touchdowns. His stats have gone down in each year since then, but he still ended last year with 59 catches for 742 yards and 6 touchdowns. There is no reason to think that he can not at least repeat those numbers from last year.

He knows his role in the team, but he also has the ability to still play at a top-level at the age of 31. He is the perfect guy to mentor these youngsters and if he continues to shine throughout the off-season, he will be one of Tannehill’s go-to guys and show these young pups that the old dog still has some tricks. How big a role does the rest of the Miami Dolphins fans think Jennings will have in the offense this season?

Jennings is and should be the true professional he has been both on and off the field. He can still play and has a lot to offer. He may not be the 2010 Jennings w/12 TDs, 1200 yds, but that was not what he was signed for. Jennings can play any of the WR spots. Another good signing for the Fins this off season. Be very surprised if this off season doesn’t produce a winning season.

Your right Dunner, Jennings is a true professional and a team player and he still has something left in the tank

You just told us who you think will have a great season
Now I will guess who will have the worst season Dallas Thomas and Turner
    Yes our guards
They will cost us at least 2 maybe 3 games in sacks allowed and or inadequate blocking for our running game
Stop worrying about the CAP next year
    It will get fixed
We will trade some expensive players again and we will draft some cheaper replacements
So go out and get Mathis plus maybe another good lineman or guard and make our OL the best in the AFC East

Yes Ralph, no need to worry about the cap next year, need to get Mathis now at any cost. Our current stable of guards are not going to be able to get the job done

I agree with you on our wide receivers and how good they can be—BUT– and it’s a big but. We have to fix the OL. Just in our division alone there are two of the best defensive lines/DCs in the league. The irony to me is the Jets and Bills have a big problem that can.t be fixed easily and that is QB. We have a problem that can be fixed and it doesn’t seem to be addressed. How sad are we going to be if RT doesn’t have the time to connect with these great receivers. That would put us at the same level as not having a good QB. last year we got into the red zone more often than most teams and didn’t score. To my mind it’s because the other teams knew they could defeat our OL at will- and when it counted they did!

Yeah unfortunately a lot of the success of our offense is going to come down how well our offensive line plays. In addition we still have no guarantees that Albert will be ready for the first game and will be healthy this season.

I think all four of the top wideouts could have those types of numbers. Not to mention Cameron. If Tannehill spreads the ball around like I expect him to then I think he could end up with 4500 yds and 30+ TD’s. Assuming they sign Mathis or a guard someone releases

I agree Travis, Tannehill has the chance to put some very big numbers this year
