No Poe, But Maybe Something Better

Poe is off the table, but Dolphins stood by there value system

No Poe might end up better for Miami in the long run

Miami had a marathon meeting with DT Dontari Poe on Wednesday where he meet and spoke with the Dolphins brass for nearly 9 hours. No one knows exactly what went on behind closed doors. However, Poe left without a contract, and because Miami wasn’t going to pay him more than $3 to $4 million, and Poe was looking for significantly more than that… and ended up signing today with the Falcons.

So what do the free bookie software say Miami going to look at next, because the fact is we need someone to pair with Suh and Phillips.  Well that someone could be DT Johnathan Hankins from the New York Giants.  We mentioned him the other day, and he actually graded out as a much better run stopper then Poe, and the Giants also had the 3rd best rush defense in the NFL last year, which Hankins had a large part in.

Poe chose the Falcons, so the Fins needs to look elsewhere

Hankins has not had the same interest as Poe has had this off season. However he also wants the same type of contract as Poe, which is in the $8 million a year range. The fact is that both of these players seem to be asking a bit more than any team is willing to pay them, and that is why Poe has visited 4 teams and left without a contract, and Hankins has garnered even less interest. Hnkins is going to have to bring down their monetary expectations.

Miami is probably not going to want pay Hankins more than $3 or $4 million. However Miami’s finance team can get creative and do a few things to get him more money up front in bonuses, but still keep his 2017 salary cap number at $3 or $4 million. Miami has reached out to Hankins but have not set up a meeting because of the price. Hankins would definitely be a nice signing considering his specialty is in run defense, and Miami should not dismiss him in their continue search to upgrade their defense.  What are the rest of the Miami Dolphins news fans thoughts about signing Hankins?
