Monday Night “Prime Time” Match-Up

Okay, most of this article’s title is accurate: the Dolphins are going to have their one and only Monday Night Football game of 2015. But, due to the Dolphins disastrous season, this will not be a “Prime Time match-up” in regards post season positioning in NFL. While the New York Giants are not a prime time team, they are very much alive in the race to win the NFC East. If the Dolphins were in that division, then they too would be alive as well. Though the Giants get a pass for winning two Super Bowls this century, the Dolphins have not had such a recent history of fortune. But, a change in history has to start somewhere.

Let’s be clear, I’m not saying Monday will be a turn in Dolphins history. BUT, I’m also not saying it isn’t. What I am saying, there is a chance that it is, an opportunity. Okay – immediately two responses rear their head: ‘you’re smoking dope’ or ‘right on, brother’. I hope both sides simply listen to my position and respond after.

The Dolphins play at home on a night when the rest of the football gambling nation will be watching. It’s undeniably center stage in the U.S. and all action will get lighted from the local paper to ESPN. A magnifying glass of tens of millions of eyes will be on Campbell and Tannehill, no longer tethered to Lazor and every last eye will get to see if this is a good thing or not.

The Giants are ranked 29th in rushing YPG with only 88.1 yards, which could actually be a perfect match up for the Dolphins run defense, which is ranked 30th by allowing 134.8 YPG. And with the Giants also ranked 19th in run stop, this game has all the making to showcase the “run oriented Miami” philosophy of Campbell as a prudent one or not.

Yes, the general accepted “prime-time” aspect is that Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham Jr are two close friends since high school, and from their playing days at LSU. Both are expected to be putting together something special in warm-ups. Both players are second year wide receivers who have played terrific in their first two years in the league with highlight worthy catches almost on a weekly basis. And even though they will not be directly squaring off against each other on the field, the raw emotion and competitiveness of the two young men are going to drive them to put up something extra for this game.

BUT, the Landry and Beckham is more “ESPN Drama” than actual football – typical. NO, from a franchise perspective, it’s on Miami offensive output. The greatest impact on the NFL is whether the Dolphins continue to commit to the running game, if it is successful, and if Lamar Miller continues to display All Pro ability. This game will go a long way towards extending Campbell and this regime’s chance of continuing or if  a complete dismantling of the 2015 Dolphins will occur in 2016.

Added to this, their will be extra focus on how Tannehill plays. The “ball boy” Taylor has cut his teeth and has had extra time with Tannehill to form a good passing game plan – now or never!  After a dismal 86 yard performance, and Lamar’s play, Tannehill will bear the burden of what was wrong with the 2015 Dolphins, unless his play demonstrates otherwise.

Tannehill is a tough, which is obvious with the amount of sacks and hits he’s endured. He’s a hard worker. He’s made improvements with even his deep ball. BUT, he along with Campbell are in a desperate fight for the careers in Miami and both need to show they are more than tough and hard workers…and Monday will highlight what they are and what they are not. Go Fins!!!

The best defense we could have is continue to run the ball and keep it away from Manning. I think Cambell is on the right track but this year is gone and maybe next year too. I would love to see this team stand up and play like men not high school boys that don’t understand the game. I know a lot of that comes from coaching –but the STUPID mistakes I have seen all year aren’t coach responsible. there just not!!

We went Tannycentric…should have been Millercentric with a blocking back and we could have had a nice season.

Tbone, why would next year be gone as well? Each year is a new year for every team, and every team has an opportunity and there is always a team that finishes last in their division one year and win that division the next, every year it happens. This is not a bad roster, I know we need a different guy under center. But, we do have 2 of the best players at their position on defense (Jones/Suh), a real good young WR core, above average 3/5 O-Line, good RB tandem Miller/Ajayi. There would be a lot of teams that would swap rosters with us right now!

This Monday night game starts off wth Vegas feeling that we are underdogs at home. That is not a good sign. m moe wrrid aoutstupid penalties and bonehead decisions on returns than I am our running game or our defene of the running game. I am soworied that our weak pass rush will expose our blow average secondary to being toasted by Eli Manning. How embarrassing! Let’s hopth coach Dan has his bunch of quiters motivted to play hard.

    Jimmy!

After Monday night Dolphins Running Game. Can we please discuss the Top College Coaches to Coach the Dolphins? Such as

College football coaches with a .900 to 750 winning percentage

Miami Dolphins can step up to the plate and go after the BEST! suited to defeat the PATS.
    Urban Meyer 2001 2015 14 176 150 26 0 .852
Bowling Green (2001–2002), Utah (2003–2004), Florida (2005–2010), Ohio State (2012–present

Did not add Nick Saban because he was with the Dolphins already.
    2004 won 9 games lost 7
    2005 won 6 games lost 10

Nick was still able to go passed 8 games his first year.

Why not JimBo Fisher or David Shaw??????

Folks Remember Tom Coughlin came from Boston College to take Jacksonville Jags 1st Coaching job where he took Jacksonville further than any coach then on to the Giant for two Super Bowls wins. The Jags have not been the same since.

Campbell needs to have a strong game not just win in order to even have a shot at coaching. So a loss would certainly finish him. Then all coaching options would be on.

    • Dunner

Miami will not be hiring a college coach unless its Harbaugh or Meyer, thats it.

  • Steve

Jimmy! “Like of Performance”, is a reason why the Miami Dolphins have only one Monday night game.

  • Phinfreak

You’re smokin dope bro. Tammy vs Manning-AYFK?

Add the porous OL, Tanny getting 100yds passing it’ll be a miracle.

    See Fins Monday nite record…exactly.

    Who’s covering Beckham?…thank you.

Only possible way to eek a victory is if Lamar Miller runs for +150. Exactly.

    Pass the spliff mon!

    • admin

I’d say it’s Manning v.s. Miller…in this style RB’s are the center piece (see Seattle). Also, porous in pass, but not in run. I still don’t think the run effort against the Ravens gets its due. Yes, Beckham will be covered by Grimey, though he has the advantage, he isn’t a speedster or a giant and it’s more in the realm of Grimey’s ability to limit him…especially with pass rush. Giant have pretty bad pass protect so there will be pass rush – 21 sacks so far for Manning with 6 fumbles and 10 picks. Last, both teams are 5-7 Giants have had stability throughout and dolphins well…you know. So, simply dismissing the Dolphins seems biased.

  • Lemmus

…there is zero chance Campbell abandons the run …it would validate Lazor …not going to happen

…whether Tannehill shows up or not has a lot to do with the OL pass protection …bad as they’ve been, the Giants should be a fair match-up for them …Tannehill does not have a quick release, he needs time to do his progressions, when he gets that time, he does pretty well …if he’s being hurried in the first two series, its going to be a long night

…be interesting to see if Taylor adds more run options for Tannehill against the Giants porous run defense …they’ve spent 3 years trying to make a pocket passer out of him, time to try getting him out of the pocket and make something happen

…its do or die for both HCs …both have to win to have any hope of keeping their jobs next year

    • admin

Needs to give Tanny a mobile platform with playaction generating the big pas plays. Actually Giant are weak against the run and weak in pass protect. Since both are conducive to miami’s strengths it offers the Fins ad opportunity. Yeah, both HC’s are near getting the boot.

    • Dunner

Lemmus, Even when Tanny has the time he is hit or miss at best. Not the answer!!!
