Miami Dolphins Draft news: What you need to know about David Johnson

There is no question that Miami is looking to find another back to pair with Lamar Miller. Technically the Dolphins can still re-sign Knowshon Moreno, who was a spark plug during his limited time being active on the Dolphins roster, however most sports gambling fans are under the assumption that Miami is not willing to take another chance on Moreno’s health. The other more realistic option is for Miami to use one of their draft picks to select a running back. At the moment there is some speculation that Miami may draft Todd Gurley at the number 14 spot, but that would seem like too much of a luxury pick for a team that has more pressing needs. The smarter move would to either trade back and then select Gurley, if they believe he is the second coming of Adrian Peterson, or even pass on Gurley and draft another running back in the middle rounds, since this is a deep draft for running backs.

One running back that is projected to be selected anywhere as early as the second round or as late as the fourth round and which some sports gambling fans are speculating that he could be one of the biggest steals of the draft is Northern Iowa running back David Johnson. He is a big back at 6’1” and 224 pounds and has a 40 yard time of 4.50. What is very interesting about Johnson is that he started out his career at Northern Iowa as a wide receiver, but was then switched to running back. As a result he was a powerful running back who amassed 1,553 rushing yards, 17 touchdowns with a 5.4 yards per carry average, and was a lethal weapon catching passes out of the backfield with 38 receptions for 536 yards, 2 touchdowns and a 14.1 yards per catch average. Johnson is a true dual threat running back that would fit perfectly into Lazor’s offensive scheme and he is a powerful downhill runner who would be a perfect compliment to the elusive and quick Lamar Miller.

As I mentioned before, I do like Gurley and would not be upset if we selected him, however the wiser decision would be to pass on Gurley since there are other positions that have a higher priority. With that being said I would select a WR or LB with our first pick and than seriously consider selecting David Johnson in the 3rd or 4th round. (I am assuming that Miami is going to find away to get back into the third round) Johnson is the type of player that could come in and make an impact from day one, and his skills would be a perfect compliment to Miller’s skill set and to our entire offense. What does the rest of Miami Dolphins News fans think about selecting David Johnson in the 3rd or 4th round?

David Johnson is a 3rd rounder, a pick the fins do not have at this time, he wont slip to 4th I dont think, if he does, he’ll be gone by time Fins are on the clock.

  • This guy does have Gail Sayers moves and speed. If we miss Todd Gurley. This is a great option. SPEED & Misdirection runner.

  • Our Dolphins cannot pass on N.M. We need him especially if we pass on Todd Gurley!!!!!!!! Lamar Miller is a above average running back, but N.M. was better!! Without a running game we are back to square one, for 2015.Look at Green Bay running back, I could site
many other teams that believe in a running game.
