Miami Drafting a Running Back

football gambling

Even though the Miami Dolphins latest signing was Knowshon Moreno, the former Denver Running Back, Dennis Hickey and the Dolphins do not seem to be finished looking for more talent for running game next season. Hickey has expressed many times that he prefers to find running backs in the middle to late rounds of the Draft, because he feels there is a ton of value to be found at that position. Like I have stated many times in Phins News, he found Doug Martin for the Tampa Bay Bucs with the 31st pick, so his words have some weight in regards to that position and the draft. So even though the Dolphins just signed Moreno, it should not be a surprise that they are now focusing on scouting for possible middle round running backs to draft.

Running Back’s Coach Jeff Nixon is currently on the road, and just had a private workout and meeting with an interesting prospect. His name is Terrance West and he played this past year for Division I-AA Towson, who lost in the Championship to North Dakota State. He is coming of a record breaking season in the Football Championship Series subdivision, where he ran for 2509 yards and 42 touchdowns. He is 5’9”, weighs 225 pounds, and just ran a 4.54 at the combine. He is currently projected as a potential 3rd to 5th round pick. He definitely has the numbers, but there is a huge question mark on him not having played at the Division I level, so Pay per head sites like Ace Per Head fans would argue there is a huge high risk to reward on a player coming from a small school like this.

The first thing I thought about when I heard West’s name, stats, and school, was when the Dolphins drafted Lex Hilliard from Montana in the 6th round of 2008 NFL draft, who finished his college career with 3419 rushing yards and 44 touchdowns. Then basically came and did nothing on the Dolphins, and then bounced around the league ever since. Obviously these are two totally different individuals so it is not fair to presume that West’s NFL career will take the same path as Hilliard, but it is fair to say that West will have many doubters coming out of the gate. Only time will tell if Terrance West will be a hidden Gem or just a Division I-AA legend that was a bust in the NFL, but it is encouraging to see that the Dolphins are doing their do diligence. Based on where he played college ball, I would say anything earlier then the 5th round may be a stretch, but don’t be surprised if Commissioner Roger Goodell is calling his name as a late round draftee for the Miami Dolphins.

Admin in regards to your sarcastic response to Random Shrapnel: What a great way to treat the people that take the time to read your blog. You’re the one that doesn’t know how to use the phrase “due diligence” but you take that out on one of your many, HA!, blog readers. I can’t wait to read more of this blog and make comments myself.

Well sorry if you were offended but it was not due to the fact that he critiqued that one word, but more because of the calender thing and just the nature of his comment. Well everyone is free to say what they want to say so it is good though. People sharing ideas 😀

The Miami Dolphins just signed three new players. One was Aaron Rogers’ QB brother that had one year at Vanderbilt. Maybe it’s in their genes? The other two are WRs and were from small schools, but they are both 6′ 2″ ran the 40 yd in 4.37 and 4.38 seconds. Hickey is a believer in nuggets can be found in small schools.

Towson State rang a bell as far as a tunning back in the NFL a while back and I remembered Dave Meggett from the Giants and Patriots–who was a very productive all-purpose NFL back– who had played at Towson.
I looked him up to check on his numbers and was shocked to find that he is currently serving 30 years for rape and robbery!!
Nothing to do with anything other than complete surprise to have read that.
But, this guy Terrence West could be a gem that just needs a chance–so what if he played for Towson State.
Yeah, he may be plauying against lesser competition as far as defenses are concerned, but by the same token, he’s playing behind and with O-Lines and blockers that aren’t as up to snuff as BCS teams as well.
Who’s to say he wouldn’t have had great numbers behind big-time teams with better O-Lines??
That’s why so many Alabama RB’s have flopped in the NFL–they are basically playing with the benefit an O-Line that is nearly NFL caliber….in other words, there are probably 50 college running backs that would have had the same numbers behind that Alabama O-Line–which is basically men against boys at that level.

Yes Steve that is an excellent point that you bring up about the quality of Towson Oline compared to the quality of Alabama’s Oline. This is one of the reasons why the draft is so hard to nail each year for front offices. Never can truly know which players from which programs will thrive at the NFL level.

To whom it may concern ( or may not concern ),
I have subscribed to your site in the hope that I may be
enlightened by your observations and comments. But, in
the interest of Semi-Professionalism, be advised that it is
” due diligence “, and not ” do diligence ” as posted. Secondly,
in re: to your posted 2014 schedule for the Dolphins, I don’t
see how the Dolphins can play the NE Patriots on 12/02/14
and play them again on 12/02/14 – and that last game is week
    # 17 of the 2014 season. I will assume that you self-edit. Do
what you can to pick-up-the-pace as it relates to syntax. And
    Go Dolphins !!!

Wow, admin, way to go to get that readership up!! No matter what you do with your life, you are going to have to deal with criticism. You have to learn to take it, learn from it, and MOVE ON! You are dangerously close to following the path set by the cry-baby Jonathan Martin. GOOD JOB broadcasting your unprofessional attitude to the world…or your three readers, whichever is closer.

Assuming that this blog is the wagon to which you have attached your career star, you should listen to what Shrapnel, Brian and now I, have to say. And Shrapnel wasn’t even a jerk about it!(Brian kind of was). No matter how good your information might be, no one wants to read a blog that is rife with grammatical errors and misspellings.

Comments provoke discussion, which is the purpose of a blog. You’ve done nothing but alienate people.

ok thank you for your opinion, but it feels like you may be the same person as shrapnel but if you are not, thank you for coming. He expressed his opinion and I expressed mine simple as that.
