Miami Crush Jets Achieve 1st Winning Season Since 2008

Dolphins crush the Jets 34-13 on their way to a winning season.

Dolphins crush the Jets 34-13 on their way to a winning season.

Dolphins crush the hated Jets and their old image in one fell swoop.

The Miami Dolphins trekked up north for a meaningful, December game against their hated division rivals, the N.Y. Jets; And in the cold, down early, with the pressure on, they didn’t blink — they just kicked @$$.

It started off ugly with the defense giving up a touchdown on the Jets first offensive drive of the game. And as Petty drove the Jets down the field for a second time, a familiar worry started to creep in.

However, the Dolphins caused a sack-fumble and a turn-over, and never looked back — except to look at the trail of carnage they left behind to the tune of 4 defensive turnovers and 3 sacks, and Matt Moore tossing 4 touchdowns.

Miami is now 9-5, and at the very least, they have secured their first winning season since 2008. But the real goal is making the Playoffs.

The Dolphins now hold the rights to the 6th and final playoff spot and will be quietly keeping an eye on the New England Patriots vs. Denver Broncos game today — along with a few other AFC games that will have impact on Miami’s playoff hopes. The pay per head sportsbook websites in the world have the Patriots as the -3 point favorite against the Broncos, and the public is loading up on the Patriots at a ridiculously lopsided ratio of 10 to 1.  As we have said in the past, when the public is that lopsided on one team, then the other team generally covers.  So, even though most fans are writing the Broncos off against the Patriots, don’t be surprised if they sneak away with the home victory.

Jets were a sweet stepping stone to a winning season.

If the Broncos win, then they would take hold of the 6th and final playoff spot, but the silver lining in this would be that the Dolphins would then only be two games behind the Patriots in the AFC East. Sure, there would only be two games left for both teams, and the Dolphins would still be extremely long shots to win the division. But, if the Patriots lost their last two games and the Dolphins won their last two games, then the Dolphins would miraculously win the division — dreams, while fragile, can be sweet.

If the Patriots win today, then the Broncos would fall to 8-6, and Miami would stay in sole possession of the 6th and final playoff spot. If this situation were to occur, then Miami would have a legitimate chance to lock up a playoff spot next week with a victory against the Bills. Also, a loss by the Broncos would be followed up by a road trip to play against a very good Kansas City Chiefs team.

By now, we Miami fans should have learned to prepare for good things with this 2016 Dolphins team. It’s been a good ride so far, no matter how it ends. But, there’s plenty of room and opportunity for more, so let’s get ahead of the curve and start expecting it. Go Fins!!!

Time for the Jay train is now. Must get more screen passes to Ajayi.

Is that not a classic Billacheat move? Plucking someone off their divisional or upcoming opponents roster? More and more I like Gase.
Reily looks to have a build of a “Mike” LBer, wonder if he can run sideline to sideline? Could allow Kiko to move to the “Will” Lber next year should Reily pan out. Kiko at the “Will” would allow him to just penetrate and make a play on the football while the “Mike” and “Sam” eat up the lead blockers.
Again, not a big move from outside looking in, but a strategic move that continues to keep the roster highly competitive and accountable.

    Trevor Reilly

If anyone was cut, I thought it might be Franks. Gotta keep them focused.

that I didn’t know thanks…they could use that type of toughness. Reilly could help on run downs. Vigil wasn’t productive…Franks should get replaced next year.

Must share: just heard an interesting tidbit: Miami has not won in Buffalo since 2011. Do you know who the QB was???? Yep, Moore. Grant it Reggie Bush rushed for 203 yds, Moore was 10-20, 217 yds, 2 tds. Is there a 200 yard day in store for Ajayi,,,,,, not counting on it,,,, just win baby!

Yeah, saw an article yest. with that…thanks for putting it up. Moore deals with pressure very well due to his footwork, quick release and decision making skills. This will cause teams like the Bills problems — hopefully.

I feel comfortable saying that a healthy Xavien Howard can become the next Revis Island. I know it is a lofty prediction, but Howard is the real deal and played like it, shutting Marshall down after being absent of playing for 7 weeks. 7 weeks and he didn’t miss a beat and shut down one of the top Wrs in the AFC.

Nice. Our future at CB is bright, bright, bright. Who woulda thought that back in August???

Revis is a lofty comparison, but I get you. He is looking like a truly excellent player. Might be a HUGE pick when combined with Lippett and Maxwell.

LOL! You a night owl Lemmus?

Win and In! It is that simple. Beating the Bills in Buffalo in December on XMas Eve will not be that easy. Yes Lemmus I believe the Bills will come to play. The players will play for their coach. Rex’s departure will not be because of discipline or loose ship, to much of a friend and not enough coach.

Lets hope they pack it in and focus on XMas. I would appreciate them laying down. Win vs Buffalo and let week 17 be our bye before we head to Pitts. or Tennessee/Houston.

    J-Train roll on….HOOT!!! HOOT!!!

No its going to be a very tough one. Gase needs to scheme up a run attack that suits his OL talents. Zone Stretch ain’t working with Urbik and Steen as center and an injured left side. And thanks, I thought the game was on Xmas…and I’m going the the relatives house that day, up in the mountains, where there is no internet, and would have had to miss the game. You saved me an argument with my wife — all is right in the world!!!

…note that the Ravens won while Steelers lost, giving the Ravens the lead there and if we both make the playoffs, an almost certain return match in Baltimore between us

    • Lemmus

      ….gaaahhh …thats what I get for staying up so late …dyslexia ….Steelers won 🙁

      • admin

yeah no worries…that Ravens and Steelers win complicates things and makes the Dolphins road tougher…as the Ravens have the tie breaker…This will be a nail-biter that goes down to the wire. This is a nice change of pace.

  • Lemmus

…Pats won thus locking up the AFC East title one more time …that dream is over for this year …but we now have sole possession of the 6TH seed …if we can keep it …no easy thing …espn is reporting that Ryan will be fired after the season …expect him and his players to be motivated against us
