So Far It Seems Miami Can Claim They Won Here

At this point, Miami could be said to have won these two big free agent  moves.

Miami hasn’t won much on the field, but they seem to have a win in these F.A. moves.

Well, at least in the area of their two prime free agents during this past off season, the Miami Dolphins have won and are 2-0 — at least for now it seems that way.

This doesn’t alleviate all the other issues that are plaguing the Fins, but it’s nice to consider some good things from time to time.

Many fans were disgusted about letting go of Lamar Miller and Olivier Vernon. Maybe they are reconsidering their stance — but, to be fair, it’s still very early.

As a re-cap:

Miller received a 4 year 26 million dollar contract with 14 million guaranteed from the Texans, and he has produced with 101 carries for 371 yards with 3.7 ypc and 1 touchdown.

Vernon received a 5 year 85 million dollar contract with just over 52 million guaranteed from the Giants, and he has produced 12 tackles, 5 assists and 1 sack in five game.

That’s a combined 111 million with 64 guaranteed! That’s 20 million a year given a 5 year projection for the two players.

I’d say both Miller and Vernon are far from meeting that value. And unless both players pick up the pace, their contracts for the Texans and Giant (more so the Giants) will be anchors that hamper the franchise’s future for some time.

Tannenbaum hasn’t won much, but these two could be big ones for the future of the franchise.

So at least Mike Tannenbaum, for all his other apparent failure, didn’t strap the franchise’s future with what appears to be severely bloated contracts. These two battles won could be big for the franchise and it’s success down the road– whenever competent leadership arrives.

Of course, even the best pay per head software site can’t see the future. This perception may change with time as neither player has been a flop, so their isn’t any guarantees that they won’t pick of the pace and meet their contracts expectations. But, at this point, Miami seems to have made two big decisions that are paying dividends through addition by subtraction. It nice to feel good about something going on in Miami. Hopefully there’s more to come. Go Fins!!!
