Mandatory Minicamp Stand-Off

Mandatory minicamp is put up or shut up for Jones threat to hold-out.

Mandatory minicamp will be Jones chance to make good on his threats.

One of Miami Dolphins biggest and brightest stars has been a no show so far this off season, and Tuesday’s mandatory mincamp will have serious consequences if Reshad Jones continues his disappearing act.

Miami Dolphins fans had a chance to see one hell of a special season by Jones in 2015.  It was truly an amazing season, one of the best ever by a Safety in the tune of 135 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 fumble recovery, 5 interceptions, 2 touchdowns, 10 pass defenses and 6 stuffs.

Now that’s one heck of a season!

But, after a hold-out 2 years ago to force a bigger contract (in which he received), Jones is attempting a hold-out, again.

This time it’s a financial chess match against a different regime and GM.

This mandatory minicamp will be the first step in developing a precedent for this new regime.

Will Mike Tannenbaum and Chris Grier fold like a house of cards, or make a deal so both sides win, or will they play hardball so future players think twice? This is a stare down with big egos and bigger consequences.

This is by no means a small matter in my mind. As important as Jones is, his hold-out is primarily about him. What this regime does and in what manner they respond though will have an effect on this seasons performance for sure; But, beyond that, it will affect the minds of the many agents representing other Dolphin stars for as long as this regime is in business.

Tuesday will be a crucial moment in this very young season. Will Jones put his money where his mouth is at the tune of 70k plus for the 3 days of camp? Will Tannenbaum and Co have the guts to withstand a protracted hold-out if he does? Will Miami Fans set up burning effigies of Reshad in protest screaming not so nice words? Tuesday will be a big news day… Go Fins!!!

I agree, and we so need him. Jones makes everyone better. I don’t see him sitting the season out either. Should the hold out last into season Isa Abdul-Quddus I would imagine would take that role (which he played very well last year) leaving FS open for Thomas or Lucas. I want Jones in tomorrow and for the season, especially if Jones can duplicate last years performance.

Yeah, we might need to brother…looks like Jones is serious. Reports are saying he won’t be in camp…who would have thought in all our discussions on draft picks that safety might end a need…maybe Lucas can fill the void should Jones holdout last.

Reshad Jones is already the 4th highest paid safety in the league. Sure he had a great season #’s wise in ’15, but in no way is he the best safety in the league, so why does he feel he needs top safety $? If Reshad had better coverage skills he may very well call himself the best, he doesn’t so he can’t, that simple! He held out before and received compensation, I hope that Miami stands strong with this hold out. As much as I like Jones, wouldn’t bother me to see Miami move him if we could get a second for him, kinda like New England does, if your not about the team you are on thin ice, if your value is as high as it may get, you are always a trade possibility. That would certainly create a “team first” mentality for this staff. After all, Reshad is one dirty urine test away from being suspended for a year, not sure I would feel to comfortable giving him a lot $ under those circumstances.

Yeah, he had been pretty terrible in coverage till last year, and it’s hard to tell if it was one good one or that his coverage skill got better. Either way though, he is a major piece of the defensive puzzle. Lemmus is the Offensive line guy, you are the Defensive guy and Steve is the rushing attack guy…over the last couple of months I have bounced around in each as most crucial – so on your end, Jones not playing will mess with your vision of the 2016 Dolphins. Unfortunately, his absence would be a big loss, but in the long run a hard-line stance might serve the Fins better. On a negative note, Jones not playing might put the Fins one step closer to ending up like Phinfreak sees the season ending up as….
