Jordan Cameron Struggling in Training Camp

This off-season the Dolphins had a turnover at the Tight end position with Charles Clay going to Buffalo and Jordan Cameron coming to Miami from Cleveland. Since Cameron’s signing, I personally have been very pro-Cameron and have even stated multiple times that I believe Cameron if healthy, is and will be better than Clay. However, with OTA’s and the three-day mini camp done and in the books, it appears I may have to eat my words this season because he has not looked very good at all.

Cameron has had an unfortunate case of the drops so far and he looks like he is having some difficulties getting comfortable in Miami’s complex offense. He has often been out of place and has been slow to develop a chemistry with Tannehill. Sure it is only the beginning of the off-season workouts, however, there are plenty of players on the team that has looked very sharp, so it is a bit concerning that Cameron has not been practicing up to expectations.

Since I have been such a strong supporter of Cameron up to this point, I am still willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and I will be patient and interested to see how he plays when training camp practices start in July. Most of the pay per head bookie service sites like AcePerHead.com would also say that the drops could also be because he is still not comfortable in this new offense, which is causing him to think too much instead of just playing with instinct, which is something players play with when they have complete comfort with their position responsibilities.

If Cameron continues to struggle during training camp, it would be wise for the coaching staff to let Dion Sims get more reps. Sims is a very intriguing third-year player that has quietly improved each season, and with some more snaps with the first-team offense, he has the chance to develop into a solid tight end. The tight end position is a very important part of Lazor’s offense so one of these two players needs to step in and become a productive player. Does the rest of the Miami Dolphins news fans think Cameron will shake out of his off-season funk, or do you think we will be kicking ourselves for not trying harder to re-sign Clay?

A little off base here, but this is the first time in many, many years that Miami will have a handful of offensive players drafted in fantasy leagues. I know fantasy is fantasy, but there is something telling to the draft process when in years past Miami was lucky to have 1 offensive player drafted in the top 6 or 7 rounds.
Play-makers make plays, and finally looks like Miami has a handful of play-makers on the offensive side of the ball.
    Is it August yet?

Depending on if you have 1 or 2 QB league, Tannehill could be a very worth while investment

I’m not worried at all. Cameron will be a beast if he stays healthy. I just said the other day it worries me about Tannehill getting chemistry with so many new receivers. He may start off slow but eventually will be a TD machine

  • Ed Smith

Everybody breath easy,Cameron has 6 weeks to get familiar with the play book, and I’m sure he will be putting in the time practicing the play book.Everything we hear now does not apply, until they practice in pads.

I think you are right Ed, I will chalk it up to him having to learn a new offense, which has him thinking too much instead of just reacting and catching footballs

cameron is a choker. sims is not a top TE. he showed that when clay was hurt. so now we are screwed. par for the course. miami always gets a bad player in an important spot. with out a great TE. we could be doomed.

      Dji,
You couldn’t be more off here. Cameron is far from a choker, when healthy he has proved to be one of the top TEs in the entire league. And, let me remind you that has been with 3/4/5 different journeymen QBs throwing him the football. If you want to point to his heealth, valid, but not his play when on the field. If healthy Cameron will make you forget about Clay. Not worried about the drops in OTAs, history has shown that he does not drop the ball.
Struggling in the OTAs? Seems every time I seen a tweet or listen to Finsider, Cameron gaught 2/3 TDs in red zone work per practice. That doesn’t seem like the kind of production that struggling players have.
Not worried one bit. I will keep my fingers crossed very game that he stays healthy.
“miami always gets a bad player in an important spot”….. Not the case Dji, Miami picked him up before Clay signed w/Buffalo. So it wasn’t a desperate move, and Cameron was the top TE on the market period.

he was only rite up there with Gronk on stats when he was healthy, this story is a joke!

        • Jimmy Bourbon

This is not a joke, the fact is that Cameron has been dropping a lot of balls in practice so far, that is a fact. Sure he may just be getting used to the offense and the system, but the fact is he has been dropping a lot of passes from Tannehill
