Interesting Trade Rumor: Cowboys eying Lamar Miller

miami dolphins news

Rumor noun ru·mor \ˈrü-mər\– a story or statement in general circulation without confirmation or certainty as to facts.

That is the definition of the word rumor in the dictionary, however as wacky or as far stretching as rumors can sound, sometimes they do come true.

With that being said there is a rumor floating out there that the Dallas Cowboys are interested in trading for a running back, which anyone would say is a logical rumor, considering the Cowboys just lost DeMarco Murray, the NFL’s leading rusher, to the Eagles in free agency. The second part of the pay per head services sites like AcePerHead.com rumor is that the Dallas Cowboys are interested in possibly trading a high draft pick for a running back, which could be a player like Miami’s starting running back Lamar Miller.

Miller had a breakout year, running for over 1,000 yards for the first time in his career, and he has already come into camp noticeably thicker and stronger, which shows he has been working hard this off-season to become even better. This is the fourth and last year of his rookie contract, so you can bet that Miller is extremely focused on having the best season of his career so he can cash in on a new long-term contract, with either the Dolphins or another team in free-agency next season.

Jerry Jones recently came out and said that he would consider trading a first-round pick for a running back. Miller would fit in perfectly behind the Cowboys dominating offensive line, but I feel like the Cowboys would not trade for a running back that is entering a contract year, because they just proved that they were willing to let Murray walk after playing exceptionally well in a contract year. If they happen to pull off a trade for Miller and he had a pro bowl type year, then Dallas would be in a similar position as they were with Murray this off-season, and I highly doubt they would risk a 1st round pick in the process.

The Dolphins in response said that they are not considering trade with Miller and they are not shopping him around. Obviously, the Phins can say whatever they want, so this comment that they are not looking to trade Miller is not something set in stone. What if Ajayi plays so dominantly in minicamp that he leap frogs Miller in the pecking order? Also if Miami is not truly thinking about re-signing Miller to a long term contract, why not trade him and get something of value like a high draft pick (I do not think Miller at this moment is worth a first-round pick, but it is possible that Dallas may give up a 2nd round pick for him) or a possible stud offensive lineman from Dallas (the Cowboys are loaded at the offensive line position).

On the surface I would say do not trade Miller, however, if Ajayi can prove to be the real deal and the Cowboys make a too good to be a true offer, then I would make the trade. What does the rest of the Miami Dolphins fans think about this Lamar Miller trade rumor? Is it something you would be interested in making happen, or would you decline it because you think Miller will continue to improve and be a key contributor to our team this season?

Heres my Trumpian deal. Miller for a 2nd rounder, a 5th, and starting OLman.

  • Trade for one of there offensive linemen…. They are probably deep in that position. Lamar is expendable. WE need a offensive line man…… What ever happened to N.Moreeno???? Did he get picked up by another team??? Is he still available?????

Trade them Thomas, is he still around?

  • Lamar Miller for La’el Collins? lol… Just a thought.

In my opinion, no team is going to make a significant trade at this point in the season without first assessing what they have. After training camp, when the pads come on, some things will start to shake out. Does Dallas even need another running back? Who looks good on the O-line? For the Dolphins, how do Damien Williams and Ajayi look?

I would trade Miller for Ronald Leary or whoever shakes out of the starting O-line up, and a 3rd-4th round pick, if and only if, it looks like we could replace his production, because in order to succeed, we need more of a running game, not less. But if it looks like we can upgrade the O-line with a proven guy and either Ajayi or Williams can step up into a lead role, and Gillislee or James look like they have something to give, then go for it. Both players are on contract years next year so the draft insures something for the future.

I’d trade Miller for a 1st rounder only, nothing less. Damien Williams can fill his role if he’s traded, with Ajayi becoming the starter. Risky yes, but who can turn down a first rounder?

I would trade Miller if the price is right (second round pick, multiple picks, starting o lineman). That is one way the Patriots continue their dominance, they trade players with a year or two left in their prime to get maximum return, not a year or two after their prime and get minimal to no return. Not to mention that Miller is going to want a pay increase with a new contract next year, highly highly doubtful that Miami will be able to do that (priority should be Vernon). I like Miller, he is a serviceable back, not great at anything though and Dallas may see him as their version of Murray. If the Miami staff knew that Ajayi would not get injured they would jump at the opportunity in a heart beat. Aajyi, Williams, James and Gillislee would be more than capable of manning the RB position.

I for one would not trade Miller Period.
If the Front Office feels like the offer is too good to pass up, and they are going to trade him, then I would wait until the pre-season ends. Let’s evaluate our new running back Ayaji, and our Linemen first.
Miller is an integral part of our success this coming season.
With 2 good running backs we are buying insurance. If one gets hurt during the season, our running production does not drop precipitously, because the remaining back will shine for us.

If we wait till all the cuts are made after the 4th preseason game, we might be able to pick up a good offensive lineman and not have to give up Miller. There will most likely be a starting caliber Offensive Lineman that gets cut (too old, or too expensive, or too many in that team) that is better than what we currently have.

If not, then we could consider the trade at that time, (assuming they do want to trade him) and by then, the price will have gone up for Miller. At that stage we could maybe get that first round pick and maybe a player that can really help us now.

We are in a win now mode. Philbin will not approve giving up a great offensive weapon now, and not get anything in return till next year.

If not possible to wait till after the last cut, then as close to that as possible. so we can maximize the return for trading a stud running back. (The closer to start of regular season the more they will want him, and the higher the price will be)

Make no mistake Miller is, and will continue to be, a Stud running back. If he had played for Dallas last year, he would’ve had 1,800 yards. With that offensive line opening up all those huge holes, he would have been in third gear by the time he got past the line.

Again I would really hate to loose such a great player for us. I personally would prefer not to trade him. If traded for a draft pick it has to be a first rounder. Second is almost picking at the end of the second, not as valuable to pick in the low 60’s. Some second round picks don’t even get to start.
Trade Rishard Mathews instead. Maybe we can get a starter for him from someone. Mathews is a pretty good slot receiver, but we are deep at receivers. Other teams might be short of receivers, or one got injured in the pre season.
