How Bad Do Dolphins Want Clowney?

The Dolphins are reported to be interested in Texans Clowney?

The rumor mill is swirling with activity: The Miami Dolphins are interested in trading for former the 2014 #1 overall pick, Defensive End Jadeveon Clowney.

They picked up former 1st Rounder Robert Nkemdiche last week, now they are eyeing another.

Apparently, Clowney isn’t happy in Houston, and the Texans are seriously looking to trading him before the start of the 2019 season.

There’s no mystery that the Dolphins pass rush is one of the weakest units on the team. The best pay per head service like AcePerHead.com. is betting they are one of the weakest in the NFL. A player of Clowney’s caliber would give this unit a huge boost.

Clowney has played 5 seasons in the league and has accumulated a total of 29 sacks. The context of this stat is in his first season, he only played 4 games due to injury and recorded zero sacks. The last two seasons alone Clowney has made 18.5 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, and 5 fumble recoveries.

That the type of impact play the Dolphins are in desperate need of.

Clowney IS a stud DE/ OLB. He’s in his prime and a perfect fit for the Dolphins scheme. This makes a ton of sense for the Dolphins to be interested…

… However, the likely asking price from Houston is a first-round.

So, does Miami really want to give up their 2020 first-round pick? This would instantly put them out of reach for one of the Top QB picks. Considering that everyone and their mother thinks the Dolphins are going to have a Top 5 pick next year, would even a great defender like Clowney be worth the chance at a Top QB prospect?

An added problem to this rumor is Miami isn’t the only team interested in Clowney’s services. No way is Clowney worth a bidding war… nothing but an elite QB is.

Miami is far from just one DE away from being a playoff contender.

It would be very risky to part with our highly valuable first-round pick in 2020. Let’s face it, the Dolphins are still a team that has huge question marks at QB. We need this season to figure out if Rosen to lock ourselves in him. The chance to select the QB of our choice next year is too big of an opportunity to trade away. No matter how you slice and dice it, a QB is the most valuable position in football hands down. So until that’s resolved nothing else is near as crucial.

Clowney isn’t a player that will turn this franchise around… only an elite QB will. But, even if Rosen is the right player, two excellent QBs would be of greater value than a good LB and an excellent QB.

I just hope the Phins really stick to the process of the ‘right value’ and patience. I’m double thumbs up for Clowney with a later round draft pick. But, for our 2020 1st Rounder, NO WAY!

What are the rest of the Miami Dolphins News fans thoughts about trading for Clowney?

I wouldn’t trade no draft picks for Clowney don’t care we’re in a good position to pick up a good quarterback in this year’s coming up Drive it’s not worth spending our draft picks that we have on a problem child for that we should have gave wake the money that he wanted which wasn’t much and we can always go next year and get a nice defensive ends in the draft Francis Tom Brady pick 164 in the NFL draft the year he came out

I can agree with that… but, a 2nd, of which we have two, for that talent level. It isn’t going to happen, but I’m fine with that as well. Although, I’m just going by his pedigree and stat sheet. I’d need to look at him far more closely to stick my foot in the ground.

There are a lot of Jason Taylor’s out there! No need to trade away picks. The 1st and 2nd round is absolutely not.

Flores is very capable of training up players for the big games.

Its taken us two decades to position ourselves for the best Quarter backs in the Draft without doing crazy trading to get there!

Fitzpatrick and Rosen certainly an improvement for us. The top 5 QBs in 2020’s Draft are prototype caliber talented.

For me, Jones and a late 2nd would work for me. But, never a 1st and I do think we are getting in a position of a Top pick in 2020… this oline situation is a bit concerning. I’d love to have Rosen and a Top QB pick on the roster. Fromm is drawing my interest as a QB available in the 5-10…

2nd round pick maybe…1st round pick absolutely not!

Both you and Jimmy’s opinion (mine as well) seems to be the opinion of Grier and Co! Armando reported today they aren’t interested in spending a 1st Rounder… seems like we have a sane regime finally, Randy!
