How About That ‘Tua Time’ Phins Fans!

Tua Time Tua stole the show!

The Miami Dolphins victory over the Arizona Cardinals Sunday was one more shocking and positive notes on their 2020 Season. But, the exclamation mark on the victory–and possibly the season–was the dramatic improvement of Tua over just one week. It will be interesting to hear from those who had pronounced Tua Time dead after only one game. For we Phins fans, hope that the franchise is on the right track hasn’t been this high since Jimmy Johnson was hired. While we can’t say for certain what the future holds, it feels great today and tomorrow looks good.

The Dolphins have already matched the expectations of the pay per head reviews like AcePerHead.com… and it seems like they will far exceed it. How many wins above the 5 wins predicted by Vegas? At this point, the playoffs are realistically on the table!

Tua, Tua Tua

How good did Tua Time look this week compared to last week?

Night and day?

Well, yes and no.

Phinsnews did a film study of Tua’s first game (here) and the most amazing part of Tua’s game was his cleanups in his throwing platform and how calm he played compared to his first start. This showed an exceptional commitment to his craft that drives his ability to improve. I expected him to fix things as he went along, but not at this rate! The ability to adjust and grow far more crucial to a successful NFL career than even talent. So far, Tua is proving to possess an elite mentality.

My big question going into this game was how would Tua handle the increased throwing volume in the coming shoot out. Well, Tua went 20 for 28 compared to 12 for 22 against the Rams. So Tua has checked every box that I had for him going into this game. Tua delivered on his health, mobility, accuracy, and deep throwing. Besides two rookie yips, the kid was outstanding.

Let’s not enshrine Tua in Canton yet, but…

While we fans are 100% behind the Dolphins’ success, we must also be sober in our evaluations… to prevent an ugly letdown. It’s certainly clear that Tua is highly talented and mentally tough. To what degree and what will it produce… that’s the million-dollar question?

Even though I think Joe Burrow is the slightly better prospect and I’m not sure yet how Herbert and Tua compare, I’m 100% certain now that the floor for Tua is at least a quality quarterback worth the pick. Of course, this is barring my concerns over his health, which I will have over the next year or two. But, when you consider how perfect Tua is for Chan Gailey’s system and all his qualities–if he can stay healthy–Tua’s ceiling appears elite.

This is the best news for the Phins in 20 years! And when you combine it with the team around him and to a huge stock of draft picks… the sky looks to be the limit!

Keeping it real on Tua Time

Tua had a 93% completion percentage against 4-man or less rush. The Cards’ defensive pressure is very different than the Rams. The main item we gained from Tua v.s. this defense was his ability to excel in a clean environment. While this is a very important detail, the more important detail is how he deals with pressure. Last week Tua looked nervous and struggled with pressure. But, given ALL the factors against him, we need to take the Rams game with a huge grain of salt. Still, beyond his health, how he handles pressure is the ONLY real concern left for fans to fret over. And, this factor will need some time before it’s revealed.

Bottom line Phins fans: What we saw in only his second game and the development in just one week are two amazing signs that Tua is the future! Life as a Phin fan is truly looking up! Go Phins!!!

I hear some fans comparing Herbert to Ryan Tannehill.

There is no comparison Justin Herbert leads Oregon to Rose Bowl win with 3 rushing TDs, Senior Bowl MVP and the list goes on and on. The critics were many on Herbert, but His arm talent is phenomenal his deep passing and screen ball plus his ability to run will keep the dolphins busy. Herbert is good for 3 TD’s and he has carried the chargers since he started. Miami’s defense has scored plenty for them. Herbert does not throw a lot of interceptions. Top two QB rookies should be interesting.
    LV 31 -26 QB CARR
    DEN 31- 30 DREW LOCK
    JAX 39 – 29 ONLY WINS
    NO 30-27 DREW BREEZE
    TAM 38-31 TOM BRADY
    CAR 21-16 BRIDGWATER
KC 23-20 Patrick Mahomes (1ST NFL GAME)

Both of them are Great QB with different skill set. Should be interesting.

I think it’s the low key demeanor. Herbert is far more talented. For me, his growth in his accuracy and consistency was a surprise. Think we talked about it… I think I thought he was tempting but I was concerned about his consistency. Of course, I was concerned about Tua’s health too! I’m maybe too cautious in the draft and certainly weak on judging QBs going from college to the pros. Tua looks very good… which we expected… I’m less concerned about his health… but still somewhat concerned. If he stays healthy though, he’ll be good for the Phins system. Still think Burrow is better by a little and not sure if Herbert can stay consistent. We’ll get a good look this week though,

    Hello Admin

Miami has become a legit NFL team. The Dolphins and Tua look fantastic. The only thing that will keep them out of the playoff is lack of serious running game. But on the up and up they are legit. I see 60 good minutes of football with them.

YES! They have! That is really the floor for this regime… but, sadly that’s been the ceiling of this franchise for 25 years! I’m not booking anything, but I’m feeling good , Steve.

I’m going to make this short,I’ve been a fins fan since their inception in ’66. I’ve been there for the glory years with 3 straight Super Bowls( 2 wins) and the not so good years(last 20) and I believe we finally found Marino’s replacement.
    GO TUA, GO FINS!!!

It’s looking real good, Randy. We saw something very good this week from Tua… I’m still being patient about his ceiling, but he certainly looks to be the best young QB come our way since Marino. It’s feeling really good… I love how Flores is making shocking calls and ending up right… after so many have many shocking calls and ended up wrong. Sign he knows better than most. I like that a ton!

Great win. We still struggle running the ball! Flores decided to have Sanders try a 50 yard field go for the go-ahead score vs. trusting his O-Line go gain 1 yard! I think Flowers & Kinsely are actually too big! Both guys could shed about 15-20 lbs. they might be more agile? I hope Williams is going to be okay? Not sure about his foot injury, though it did not look serious, however, I am no doctor! Biggest need is top flight MLB and a “beast” NT/DT. Need an Aaron Donald or young Suh type player in the middle of our D-Line. Still giving up 4+yards per carry on a regular basis. Tua is the real deal. This team will only get better!

The Oline is still along way off. It’s more about the blocking than the runner. They do seem to open holes on occasion and do enough to win. Dline has taken a step back. It would be great if Tua stays healthy and looks good… two picks in the 1st on as you said an LB and DT would be sweet!
