For Gutted Phins ‘Close IS a Cigar’ V.S. Browns

Phins are stripped down and the Browns in disarray

The Miami Dolphins are headed to Cleveland to face a talented but undisciplined Browns team.

Most pay per head services like AcePerHead.com are betting the Phins get their doors blown off. And with all the expectations for the Browns this season and their superior talent level, Cleveland should win by three scores easily.

‘Should’ gets real dicey in the NFL… And quite often ends up ‘coulda’, woulda’… but didn’t’. That’s why they play the game.

Now, I don’t think Miami will win. But because both teams are at the opposite ends of the team-building process, even ‘close’ is a cigar for the Dolphins.

Consider the difference between both teams
  • In 2020, Miami ranks #2 in Cap space. Conversely, the Browns are #16 with only half the money Miami has available to spend at $50 million.
  • Browns spent big on Free Agency this offseason. On the other hand, Miami shipped off most of its talent for future draft picks.
  • Dolphins are ranked # 1 in the league with only 55 penalties, while the Browns are ranked 30th with 87.
  • Miami has a journeymen quarterback in Fitzpatrick, while the Browns have their franchise quarterback in Mayfield, who is just two years away from getting a mega-deal.
  • The Phins have five 1st round picks over the next two years. Cleveland spent all their extra picks already and only have only two.
  • Flores will return in 2020, Kitchens has one foot out the door.
  • Many considered the Browns Superbowl favorites, and the Dolphins to ‘tank’ and go winless.

Even with all of this…

  • The Phins have just two wins, but Cleveland has only four wins.
  • The Browns offense is ranked 21st and the Dolphins aren’t far behind at 28th.
  • The Browns are ranked 25th in offensive points and the Dolphins 31st.
  • Miami is ranked 29th in total defense and the Browns 16th.
  • Dolphins are ranked a terrible 31st in points allowed, but the Browns are only ranked 25th with all that offensive firepower.
You can’t fake it till you make it in the NFL

Miami is set up with tons of potential and flexibility for the future, while the Browns’ future is now… and they are squandering it. This a prime example of why you can’t rush building the foundation of a team, and why it must be built right.

Yes, the Browns have drafted some excellent players and Miami only has potential. Still, if Flores can make this game even close with the worst roster in the NFL, it will be another indication that the future in South Florida is getting brighter. Go Phins!!!
