Fins’ D Must Get Pressure

The Washington Redskins are a proud franchise. They have one of the best fan bases in the league, and even though they might not have the best record this upcoming season, they are still going to play tough to beat in front of a sell-out crowd. The Dolphins travel to Washington to play their first game of the season, and they can’t afford to start off slow and lose this game.

The Redskins coach made a controversial decision by going with Kirk Cousins instead of poster boy Robert Griffin III. The city of Washington is divided on this decision, but Cousins has the talent and started at the end of the season when Griffin was injured. In Cousin’s 6 games of action last season he threw for 1,710 yards 10 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions. He is a bit of a gunslinger, but if Miami can get pressure on him, he can be “made” to make a lot of mistakes and errant throws which could lead to picks – especially with our ball-hawk Grimes.

Cousins has two shifty receivers in Pierre Garcon and DeSean Jackson. Miami’s secondary needs to make sure that they keep these two players in front of them at all times because either one of them has the speed to blow the top off a defense. In addition, the Redskins have a formidable young running back in Alfred Morris. And while Morris had a disappointing season last year, he still has been a 1,000-yard rusher in each of his 3 seasons in the league and has tallied 28 touchdowns as well. Suh and company must clog up all running lanes early and often.

If the Dolphins want to shut down the Redskins offense, the best recipe is to live in the Redskins backfield. The Dolphins defensive line must take this game into their own hands and shut down the Redskins running attack and make the skins one-dimensional. If the Dolphins can keep the Redskins running game in check, then they will be able to tee off on Cousins. I believe the Dolphins can sack Cousins at least 4 times. If they can do this, then this will be a dreadful day for the Redskins offense. Not only do sacks kill drives, but steady pressure on Cousins will lead to happy feet in the pocket and bad throws and multiple turnovers will follow. Most football betting software fans would say that if a team can win the turnover battle, then they often win the game.

This is like one of those Captain Obvious commercials. I guess this would be true for any opponent and with any game right?

I’d disagree. Yes, it is always important to get a pass rush, but depending on the team the cruciality of it is a variable. Would it’s effect be as prominent against rush heavy team or a team that runs high amount of 3 step drops? Would it dominate a game the same way against a team that run 5 and 7 step drops and uses high stem routes? The greatest weakness of the Skins is Cousins because he is young and makes mistakes AND our defensive strength is D-line. Based of the level of production of our D-line the game likely will reside.

    Can’t wait
Also want to see our new offense firing on all cylinders
happy to see Albert is back to 100% healthy and will play, as well as Parker, although only for certain plays, at least he is getting in on the first game of the year and that is a good sign – hope they are careful with him and don’t overdo it.
Surprised at Taylor not being the starting left corner
lets see how our new corner performs against 2 of the fastest receivers we will face.
    Hope we win big
