Finally… the Last Game of Phins 2019 Season

Phins 2019 Season was a hard road for fans… But it does feel like brighter days are ahead

The Phins 2019 Season is finally drawing to a close as the Dolphins play on the road against the Patriots. What a long and wild ride this season has been from ‘Tanking for Tua’ to some ‘Coach of the Year’ talk. But even though the Dolphins have hurt their draft position with four wins, Brian Flores and his staff have shown enough to earn some trust from fans. Considering how big this offseason is, at least we have a quality Head Coach to build on.

The various sports betting software sites have the Dolphins as a +15.5 underdog against the Patriots. With the all-important Bye Week on the line, the Pats must beat the Phins to lock up the #2 seed in the playoffs.

Dolphins have played Patriots spoiler before

Remember when the Patriots lost the 2015 AFC Championship to Peyton Manning and the Broncos in Denver? The reason New England played in Denver was that Miami robbed them of the 1st overall seed with a 20-10 upset in Week 17. A Bye Week is critical to the Patriots Super Bowl hopes this year, so Belichick won’t take this game lightly.

The Dolphins lost their first Pats matchup this year by 43 points in Miami. Thankfully, this team has grown since then. I’m not saying the Phins will win, but I do think that it will be a more respectable showing than the first game this year.

As nice as a win would be for Miami, the price though would be a drop in the draft order as far back as the 7th spot. Currently, the Dolphins are in the 5th spot. If they lose against the Patriots at least they won’t drop any further back in the draft order. If Miami does lose and then miraculously the Giants, Redskins, and Lions all win, the Dolphins would jump to the number 2 spot

Do you believe in magic?!

Unfortunately, the odds of that happening would be about 40 to 1. If you were a gambling man and bet a $100 parlay on the money line of the Redskins, Giants, and Lions to all win, the payout would be $4,000.

So this dream scenario is a real stretch.

However, if Miami were to lose and at least one of the 3 above-mentioned teams win, then Miami will slightly improve their draft position from their current 5th position. And that could have a huge impact on trades and who they can pick.

Of course, regardless of how this all plays out this upcoming Sunday, the main thing will be what Miami actually does with the draft picks they have.  We fans must keep reminding ourselves, ‘just having a bunch of draft picks with three in the first round picks is just potential’. It looks great on paper and is exciting for fans, but if this organization finally wants to turn this team into a consistent winner then they have to maximize their selections and hit some home runs on these picks.

Also, it must be noted that the Dolphins failed to have any players make the Pro Bowl this year; however, both Tunsil and Minkah made the Pro Bowl. So there is added pressure on Chris Grier to truly win those trades. Grier must not just select good players, but players that end up being Pro Bowlers for years to come.

What are the rest of the Miami Dolphins News fans’ thoughts about this last upcoming game?
