Eagles Offer Phins a Tough Challenge

The Philidelphia Eagles have been one of the best franchises over the last few years

With only five games remaining in this long and agonizing season, the Dolphins begin the final leg of their schedule by hosting the Eagles Sunday.  Though Philadelphia has been one of the top franchises over the last few years, they have been inconsistent. But, over the last month, their defense has played very well against some top teams in the league. The Eagles defense will be a tough hill to climb for Miami’s offense.

Most of all, the Phins offensive line will have their hands full against this stout Eagles front seven. And without a rushing attack, this game has could get ugly for Miami… again.

The various pay per head sites like AcePerHead.com have the Dolphins as a double-digit home underdog getting +10 points. Sadly, after the trade of Kenyan Drake, the Dolphins run game has been nonexistent. When the most productive runner is your QB (and his name isn’t Lamar Jackson) you know your run game is bad.

Phins need to find some sort of run game to prevent a blowout

Clearly the Dolphins must address running back and offensive line this offseason. Running back is one of the easier positions to hit in the draft, and Miami has shown a penchant for finding quality running backs in the middle of the draft, so this should get fixed. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said of their talent at finding offensive linemen. This must change because everything revolves around offensive line play.

With cavalry not arriving until next year, a lack of rush production will be a continuous issue for the rest of this season.

While Ballage was talked up in minicamp, he has yet to do anything in the Regular Season. Undrafted Patrick Laird has fair better the last couple of games, but who knows if he’s anything more than a spot duty player? This is why he needs to get more rushing reps. Miami must answer this question before they enter the offseason.

The Phins problems in handling the Eagles go beyond just running the football.

On Defense, Carson Wentz will face a decimated Dolphins secondary. Last week’s performance against the Browns highlighted just how vulnerable the Dolphins are to the pass. Sure, the youngsters getting a baptism by fire will only speed up the growth curve. But, Wiltz, Parker, and Needham are still raw and nowhere near as experienced as Howard, McCain, and Jones. They will have a bullseye on them till they prove otherwise.

At least the Eagles receiving group has some warts. On the downside, the Eagles have two quality Tight Ends, and so far, Miami hasn’t been able to stop even one Tight End. Expect Philly to feed them early and often.

If the Dolphins are going to lose, let’s hope the Bengals start winning

There has been some good news in the Chase Young and Joe Burrow sweepstakes: The Bengals are playing the Jets in Cincinnati and Adam Gase loves to coach his team down. More importantly, the Bengals have gone back to QB Andy Dalton as the starter. With Dalton returning and the Bengals defense playing well the last two games, they are only a +4 underdog at home against the Jets.

Maybe Head Coach Zac Taylor and the Bengals may have realized the tank is becoming too obvious? Or maybe they realized (as Coach Flores realized earlier in the season) that their young QB needs to polish himself up a little bit more. The Dolphins benched Rosen for the more experienced Fitzpatrick and were rewarded with better play and two wins. Now the Bengals are getting antsy to win a game. The desperation to keep from going 0-16 could lead to a couple of wins…

… we can only hope.

With the Phins it’s about watching the players

Miami likely only has a win or two left in them… at the most. But the key to enjoying the season is watching certain players. I expect at least half of the roster to play elsewhere in 2020. The main thing fans should root for is that about a dozen prove to be building blocks for the future. Let’s hope we see those dozen players take another step forward this week.

What are the rest of the Miami Dolphins News fans’ thoughts about these two upcoming games?

    Hello Admin and Dol-Fans

Just my opinion only: It’s important not to reach for no players. Just because a player is a linemen does not mean you draft a herd of linemen and overlooked the players who’s truly worth that picked. There are many outstanding linemen to select from. The key is recognizing who’s a good fit for the team. Offensive 4 linemen from the draft and two from free agency.

My top picks before a linemen:
Joe Burrow QB—2nd top college player
I would not overlooked Chase young for a offensive linemen: Number one player
I would not overlooked Isaiah for a offensive linemen: Every down Will not come off the field in the NFL
I would not overlooked Jonathan Taylor for a linemen: 12 games over 200 yards rushing.
I would not overlooked Jalen Hurst for a linemen: 3184 passing yards and 1156 rushing yards this 11 games

Johnathan Taylor why I would not passed on him in the 1st round.
The junior All-American running back had been tied with Wisconsin’s Ron Dayne, Texas’ Ricky Williams and USC’s Marcus Allen for the FBS record of 11 games over 200 yards entering the day.

Now with 5,856 career yards, the most by any player in FBS history through his junior season, Taylor has to decide following the season if he’ll declare for 2020 NFL draft. ATT 261-1,685 yards, TD 18, Avg 6.5 yards a carry.

The Heisman Trophy won’t name its finalists for another two weeks, but the Maxwell Award, given to college football’s top player, has already named its finalists.

The Maxwell Award, presented each year by the Maxwell Football Club, has named three finalists:

    LSU QB Joe Burrow
    Oklahoma QB Jalen Hurts
    Ohio State DE Chase Young
The Maxwell Award and the Heisman Trophy don’t always line up exactly the same, but it’s usually a pretty good indication of who will end up in New York.

Burrow is a lock to be a Heisman Trophy finalist, while Hurts and Young are strong contenders, too.

“Just because a player is a linemen does not mean you draft a herd of linemen and overlooked the players who’s truly worth that picked” Absolutely agree! This is why I disagree with Jimmy on grabbing any QB other than Burrow. Let another team trade up and overpay for whatever they want.

I Agree 100% it would be a reached!

Burrow is now the SEC’s single-season passing yards record holder, surpassing Tim Couch’s 21-year mark of 4,275 passing yards set in 1998. He also tied Drew Lock’s 2017 record for passing touchdowns, 44, in a single season. Not only that Admin he constantly maintain his poised.

Admin I agree the Phins need to find some sort of run game to prevent a blowout. But this is who the Fins are? Some sort of run game.

Fins have sure take at 3 top Running Backs in the country and the Fins are still talking about passing on addressing this position until later.

The Fins Supper Bowl wins were won by having the Best Run game in the league along with a well balanced team. The Fins were feared with Czonka,Kick and Morris in the backfield. The Fins were feared with Ricky Williams in the Backfield, Lamar Smith power running help to get us a playoff win, The wildcat offense with Ronnie Brown and Rickie Williams help to get us a playoff, Jay Ajayi 200 yards rushing feared the league.

We tried it passing and its been about 37 years of passing??? But we will get running backs in the later round. So basically we have been crying about offensive linemen for 37 to 40 years?

The game has changed! The defensive are just too fast for a pocket only passer. The Raven’s QB Lamar Jackson has thrown for 2,427 yards, 24 TD’s, 5 INT’s –876 yard rushing with 6 touchdowns in 11 games.

In addition Drew Breeze who the Fins passed on for Daunte Culpeper, Russell Wilson a 3rd round picked and Watson who went to the Texans. LSU Joe Burrow’s QB has rushed for 239 yards 3 TD’s this season so far and rushed for 399 last season 2018.

RB Chuba Hubbard, Oklahoma State (10, zero): 285 carries, 1,832 yards, 20 touchdowns; 18 catches, 170 yards
    RB Jonathan Taylor, Wisconsin (10, zero): 261 carries, 1,685 yards, 18 touchdowns; 20 catches, 162 yards,four TD’d
RB J.K. Dobbins Ohio State ATT 219 YDS 1,446 TD 15 AVG 6.6

You, me, and Jimmy were wrong. Gesicki and Parker had fantastic days and carried a terrible run game. Can’t do this every week, but they carried this team to the win.

      • Steve

I congratulate the Dolphins on a nice win against the Eagle yesterday.

A Well Balanced team is the key each game! For as the Eagles, Cowboys,Rams, Raiders and many other NFL teams have spent a lot of money on their team and the outcome appeared to me is poor coaching.

    Hello Admin and Dol-Fans

Admin you mentioned in an earlier posting we should trade back. My thoughts exactly If Burrows and Chased are off the Board. It would be best we trade backed.

Many Fans are saying fixed the line. True this is a necessity. But there are only Two offensive linemen that should be in the 1st round Andrew Thomas*, OT, Georgia https://youtu.be/mynP6_mimKI and maybe Tristan Wirfs, OT, Iowa. The others are reaching. Its very possible 6 to 7 Offensive linemen could possibly be drafted in the 1st round?

I’ve been on the trade back for a while if Burrow and Chase aren’t there… Van thinks so too. If we do it right we can have multiple 1sts for many years to come.

    Hello Admin and Dol-Fans

Just a heads up on the top players in the College Football Nation. Almost every player listed below will be within reach to the Miami Dolphins this 2020 draft.

    Heisman Watch:

Ahead of Week 14 Heisman Watch: Chase Young, Justin Fields are top-3 candidates ahead of Week 14

QB Joe Burrow, LSU (48 points, eight first-place votes): 261-of-369, 4,014 yards, 41 touchdowns, six interceptions; 79 carries, 239 yards, three touchdowns
DE Chase Young, Ohio State (40, two): 38 tackles, 16.5 sacks, 19.5 tackles for loss, seven forced fumbles
QB Justin Fields (23, zero): 175-of-252, 2,352 yards, 33 touchdowns, one interception; 105 carries, 445 yards, 10 touchdowns
QB Jalen Hurts, Oklahoma (13, zero): 192-of-269, 3,184 yards, 30 touchdowns, six interceptions; 180 carries, 1,156 yards, 17 touchdowns
RB Chuba Hubbard, Oklahoma State (10, zero): 285 carries, 1,832 yards, 20 touchdowns; 18 catches, 170 yards
RB Jonathan Taylor, Wisconsin (10, zero): 261 carries, 1,685 yards, 18 touchdowns; 20 catches, 162 yards, four touchdowns
QB Tua Tagovailoa, Alabama (three, zero): 180-of-252, 2,840 yards, 33 touchdowns, three interceptions; 23 carries, 17 yards, two touchdowns
QB Trevor Lawrence, Clemson (two, zero): 190-of-279, 2,575 yards, 27 touchdowns, eight interceptions; 63 carries, 317 yards, seven touchdowns
QB Tyler Huntley (one, zero): 174-of-232, 2,608 yards, 14 touchdowns, two interceptions; 64 carries, 228 yards, five touchdowns

Young is the most dominant player in college football. It really isn’t even an argument or up for debate. While he has dominated all season, the star has stepped up when it has mattered most. In his last two games — against Wisconsin and Penn State, Ohio State’s two toughest opponents so far this season — the defensive end has racked up 15 tackles, seven sacks, and nine tackles for loss. In his return from suspension, Young totaled nine total tackles, four tackles for loss, three sacks and two forced fumbles. Not only did he break Ohio State’s single-season sack record,1 but with his dominant performance, Young was named the Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the week. Even though he has dominated all season,

He is, but I’d take Burrow over him as the position is so crucial and protected in modern football. I really like Burrow. The arm is a little weak they say, but he learns and works on his craft with 100% commitment… that’s worth rolling the dice on.
