Drafting Borland instead of Mosley

Chris Borland from Wisconsin

I lot of phins news fans have been asking me if I would prefer the Dolphins to draft OLB C.J. Mosley or one of the two offensive Tackles I have mentioned recently; Taylor Lewan or Zack Marin. In regards to that question I would rather have one of the two Tackles, because I think that offensive line is a more urgent need then Linebacker. Now in regards to Mosley, he is rank as the best Linebacker in the draft by many analysts, however I am not completely sold on him. His draft stock has recently been on the decline, and most of the playoff teams from last year who will be drafting in the 20s are saying they have other linebackers rated higher then him. Also a big red flag for me is his recent knee injury, and many Pay per head sites like Ace Per Head fanatics will agree that the Dolphins have not done well with players who they drafted that have had health concerns; Dion Taylor, Will Davis, Jamar Taylor.

Instead I prefer the hard-nosed, tough as nails Chris Borland from Wisconsin who is 5’11”, weighs 248 and runs a 4.83 40 time. He had an excellent season last year racking up 112 tackles with 8.5 tackles for a loss, 2 passes broken up, 2 forced fumbles, and 4 sacks, this compares to Mosley who had 102 tackles with 9 tackles for a loss, 1 forced fumble and 5 passes broken up. Borland is a stand out against the run, has decent pass rush ability, and is known for stripping the ball carrier. The biggest knock on him is that he is not that good in pass coverage compared to Mosley, who is very good in pass coverage. Borland reminds me of a young Zach Thomas, a small, yet very tough competitor that is always around the football making plays. It is no secret that Wheeler and Ellerbe performed below expectations, and neither made the necessary impact plays that they were paid a lot of money to make. The two biggest things that standout about Borland is that he can get to the QB, and he causes fumbles, two things that our current linebackers are lacking.

He is projected as a 2nd to 4th round pick, and most sports gambling fans would say that he would be a steal in the 3rd rounder. And if he can have a career similar to Zach Thomas, then phins nation will be ecstatic.
