Dolphins Still get no Respect

On paper, the Dolphins had one of the best off-seasons in recent history. They signed one of the biggest free-agents to hit the market since Reggie White. Then Miami was able to unload dead contracts and problem players for draft picks and players. They were able to lock up former draft picks such as Tannehill and Pouncey to long term deals, and the draft fell very favorably for them. On paper, they look like a much-improved team in both talent and toughness. However, now they have to prove it on the field.

On Monday on NFL Live a few NFL analysts voiced their opinions about the Dolphins 2015 team. Damien Woody was very blunt and said “I got issues with Miami up here,” while pointing to his head. “The last couple of years they’ve melted at the end which tells me they’re soft. They’re soft mentally. Until they’re able to finish, you know, I’m going to call it what it is.” Then Stephen A. Smith and Mark Brunell said they weren’t convinced the team’s off-season moves were enough to make the Dolphins a contender in the AFC East.

My initial reaction was filled with a lot of hate and foul language at those comments, because ESPN and NFL Analysts have been hating on the Dolphins for the last 15 seasons, and they have been kissing the asses of teams like the Patriots and the Jets for years. However, taking a second to calm down, I realize they do have a point. The Patriots have won numerous Super Bowls, and constantly find new ways to win, and the Jets have at least went to two straight AFC Championship games in 2010 and 2011. Whereas the Dolphins have made the playoffs one time in the last 13 years, and in that one appearance they were embarrassed at home against the Ravens.

The Dolphins have not earned the right to garner any respect, and this team must use that as motivation to play better football. The Patriots are notorious for taking chalkboard material and using that to play their best football on the field. The Dolphins must play with a chip on their shoulders, and develop a nastiness and determination to win games even when the deck is stacked against them. Last year the Dolphins lost some heart-breaking close games against very good football teams, however close is only good in horseshoes. The Dolphins are what their record says they are, a mediocre team, and that is not going to change until they can play at the next level, and close out the close games. The pay per head bookie service sites like AcePerHead.com would not enjoy hearing their team get disrespected year after year in the media, but respect is not given, it is earned. So until Miami turns their expectations into reality, we as Miami Dolphin News fans are going to have to live with negative comments and doubts about our team, but hopefully, this year marks the turning point for our team and fan base.

Look Damien Woody made a point of lack of mental toughness, but Miami isn’t that bad. And Stephen A Smith stay on First Take and not host NFL Live was bragging about the Jets like they are going to the Super Bowl really???

You are right we have to earn that respect
I think that if Albert is able to play all 16 games and stays healthy, we can make the playoffs if Albert is not able to play a few games we will be very lucky to win 8 games again
Yes we have a great set of receivers and a solid defensive line but our offensive line is suspect and our defensive left corner as well as linebackers are also unproven. Let’s hope Taylor also stays healthy as well as our linebackers.
So no one can say with certainty that we are playoff bound yet
    We must prove ourselfs
If they do not sign Mathis I hope they pick up another guard ( better than Dallas ) when teams cut down to 53 players maybe also another linebacker ?
We are getting closer to becoming a powerhouse only 3 or 4 good players away
Hickey and team have done an excellent job
Just got my tickets for London game hope we have good weather going to make it this years vacation going for a whole week
Any suggestions from those of you who have already gone ?

Ralph that’s awesome that you have tickets to the London game!!! I agree with all your points…one more I’d like to add is Philbin needs to make clutch decisions and be the leader in mental toughness for Miami to follow. Go FINS!!!

We have definitely made a lot of positive strides, and you are right Ralph we are only 3-4 quality players away from being a powerhouse, but now we need to prove it on the field
