Dolphins Desperate For A Win

A win is in desperate order for Gase and Tannehill.

A win is in desperate order for Gase and Tannehill.

A win can stop the bleeding and offer a chance to reload and regroup.

The Miami Dolphins will be desperate for a win at home this week after a brutal first month of the season where they were on the road 3 out of 4 games. Fortunately for the Dolphins, they now have the luxury of playing their next 4 games in Miami in front of a home crowd. Also, as an added bonus, they will being up against a team that is more at their level in the 1-3 Tennessee Titans.

The best pay per head software in the world opened the game with the Dolphins as the -3.5 point favorite. Up until Saturday, that line has stayed steady all week — at least in that Miami has been consistent.

Truth is this could be an ugly game. The Titans offense is tied for 31st worst in the league in points with only 15.5, and the Dolphins are a touch better at 28th worst with only 17.8 points scored per game. Let the offensive ugly ducklings scrap it out.

All hands will be on deck for Miami’s Offensive line as Albert and Pouncey come back from injuries. It will be interesting subplot to see if this group can make a difference. Will these “star” players and huge contracts give Tannehill time to throw and the running backs room to run? I want to believe that having Pouncey and Albert back in the lineup will make a big difference. I really, really do!

A win will allow Gase and Miami to reload and reset.

Also, the few extra days of rest and preparation should benefit the reeling staff — one would hope. This game will be a big one in Gase and Co’s 2016 evaluation. Everything is stacked in their favor as far as coaching advantages.

On Defense, the Dolphins will need to focus on stopping the Titans running attack which is currently ranked 4th best in the league averaging 127.4 yards per game. As the featured back, DeMarco Murray has raked up 340 yards and 3 touchdowns so far while also pulling down 2 pass catching touchdowns. So it would be very wise for Miami to create a defensive game plan that focuses on containing Murray…and make that plan happen. Titans also have a bruiser in Derrick Henry, and QB Marcus Mariota is also dangerous with his legs.

While it may only be the 5th game of the season, 2016 is already quickly slipping away. This will be as near to a must win game for Miami as they come. If the Dolphins cannot find a way to win this game, then it would be fair to say that this season is likely to be a lost cause. If they fail this week, Miami could very well be drafting in the top 5 of next year’s draft. Go Fins!!!

…really felt sorry for TH today …being booed in your own stadium is bad enough when its your fault …but today can’t really be laid at his feet …he had no chance with that slap stick OL …Turner as starting LT is desperation time …and James had another lousy game, no idea what is going on there but it needs to be fixed …along with a long, long list of other things

…another game where the stats tell the story much more than the score …it could have easily been a big fat zero …six times TH was sacked and it could well have been more …the hits from the left side just kept coming …and when they tried to give Turner help, James couldn’t protect his right …it just got worse

…the run game …iirc, Mariota had more run yds than our entire offense

…and then there was the defense …or not …wtfo?

….the fins have a new defensive plan, its called swiss cheese …they stink so bad they think no one will be able to see the holes through the gas masks …oops!

…Ross has proven he’s willing to spend large sums of his own money when faced with public resistance to financing a billionaire’s plaything …but this latest bit of supporting the self proclaimed protesters makes me sick …he needs to sell the team and find a new plaything …we don’t need NY PC crap here, just professional football …or hand the keys to Marino and then set quietly in the owner’s box …he can celebrate the results along with the real fans

…Denver had its down years before Elway became GM with owner authority, Seattle was in Miami’s shoes not that long ago, and the Pats are Belicheat, not Brady

…but Miami tried the guru route with Parcels and look what it got us …one decent year and all downhill from there …all of the gurus you named are retired or semi-retired ala Parcels …we need to lure someone who will be in the game for another decade at least …and give him the reins

…it took Denver years to get it right, owner there went through several coaches until he made Elway an offer he couldn’t refuse …there won’t be an overnight miracle here no matter what Ross does …but I do think Marino would do it if Ross gave him what he wants …not money, he has that …Marino wants what Elway has …iron clad control with a no-cut clause …and Marino knows what needs to be done, just like Elway …can even Marino do it is the question

    • Steve

Marino would be ideal having something to prove by being on the team winning a supper bowl. Yes he would need the control like you said.

At least my interest would be perked if they did that. Tannenbaum has made some good moves, but so far it appears not enough. I’d take Marino even if it’s a pipe-dream…

As I mentioned above We once had Bill Parcells in the position. No excuses Brian Billick I thought always wanted the Dolphins Job. Why never offered the job I don’t know? The Owner has to understand people are not paying their money to watch excuses. Each Season its the same teams The PAT’s, Denver, Seattle,

Most head coaches’ failures aren’t really their own. Honestly. The blame should be placed squarely on the front office and owners who hired them. By hiring the wrong guy for the job, they’re setting him up for failure. It’s not the coach’s fault for accepting a high paying promotion with great power even if he’s not ready for it. Who wouldn’t?

Stephen Ross Can bring some stability to this insanity just by hiring Football Operations Guru with unlimited authority to fire and hire etc. And if need to Take over the Team. All have Super Bowl Win except one!
    1. Tom Coughlin (2) New York Giants
    2. Tony Dungy Indianapolis Colts
    3. Chicago Bears Lovie Smith No Super Bowl win but part of Tampa 2 “D” and lost Supper Bowl
    4. Bill Cowher Pittsburgh Steelers
    5. Mike Shanahan (2) Denver Broncos
    6. Jimmy Johnson (2) Dallas Cowboys
    7. Brian Billick Baltimore Ravens Never understood why he never got the Job he wanted!

I agree that talent trumps everything beyond a single game “fluke”. But, my concern is the sheer ineptitude. Gase said it himself. This team isn’t that much worse than 2015, but it’s playing that way. Gase is struggling as bad as his players, except he is the guy in charge. I agree if you gave him top talent he’d do better. But, it’s the discipline, execution and evaluation that is my concern. It’s not been even meh..it’s been terrible. We’ll see. But, I have always said I try to be fair in my evals, and at this point I can say I might end up stunningly wrong on Gase. I still like his persona, but I expecting okay as the floor. Now I’m wondering if it’s the ceiling.
