Colts V.S. Dolphins: A Cautionary Tale

nfl_g_lucktannehillsplit_gb1_576

Colts are coming  in to Sun Life Stadium down Luck who is still being ruled out for kidney / Abdominal issues. Neither team has lived up to expectations and both are looking at regime changes. This weeks game is about pride, showing off your wares for future jobs and the cautionary tale of building a franchise on the shoulders of a single position.

Dolphins are quite possibly down another linemen in Pouncy and another Linebacker in Jenkins who are both listed as questionable with ankle injuries. So, Sunday two of the three thinnest positions are likely to be even thinner. But, even with the injuries the Colts are a hot mess in their own right and are ranked down in the bottom of the league of most major stats except passing where they are ranked #19.

The Colts went into the playoffs this year, but even when their “All World” QB  was healthy they were an inconsistent team that didn’t live up to expectations. Much like the Dolphins bad coaching and large holes in the roster proved too much to overcome. The Dolphins in their own right rested the season on their QB, loading up on WR’s and carrying high expectations with marquee signings. But, both are now victim of their folly. Issues on the O-line, lack of fundamental depth, and poor coaching decisions led to their season’s demise. Colts though have proven that even if T-Hill were to play at a high level, it isn’t the end all be all, because football is a team game and a QB driven team is one hit away from crumbling.

Yes, it’s nice to have a QB like Brady – real nice, but it’s even nicer when Brady can go down and you can still bring in the back-up and churn out an 11-5 record. Really, that’s the moral of the story – teams win games and teams can absorb injuries and survive the long haul. The system and the core of the team are the essence of football. Yes, it is a QB driven league and it pays huge dividends having a marquee player and it doesn’t take the best sportsbooks in the world to figure it is better to have one than not, but a quality team is not made on one player not matter how great. We had Dan Marino to prove the reality of one man practically carrying a team and the unsatisfying results of it.

While T-Hill’s cap value necessitates he play at a high level, it takes a team to protect a QB and a team to win games, divisions, and championships. This off season let’s hope this next regime gets the big picture. Go Fins!!

Miami MUST trade Tannehill. Trade him for Breese, take on Breese’ Contract, actually resign him for 3 years and have an understudy groomed. Ride this franchise of Tanehill PLEASE, just do it. It can be done, the numbers are complicated, but it can be done. And, if Payton (Sean) becomes available, make him our new HC.

Ross, this is your chance to really put your personal stamp on this organization. PLEASE do it. The fan base will at least respect you for recognizing that this team will not improve until this team makes a change at the QB position.

…for cryin out loud Dunner, lay off the Tannehill crap, eh

…he was sacked SIX times yesterday, put down on so many others I lost count, and I simply gave up counting the hurries

…do you really THIMK Campbell wouldn’t have benched Tannehill long ago if there was the slightest chance one of his backups gave them a better chance to win?

…this loss wasn’t on Tannehill …at all …it was first and foremost on the the worst OL in fins history …by far! …you THIMK Brees would accept a trade to come play behind THIS OL? BS! …he’d be injured and on IR in the first two games …and you THIMK Payton is the answer? …WTF has he done in NO except ride the tail of Brees? THIMK!!!!!

…and on Douglas, who single handedly ended any chance we had whatsoever

…and on Thomas who might as well just step aside for every pass rusher for all the good he does

…and on Campbell who TWICE on 4th and ONE deep in Colts territory, quit on his team and punted!

…and on the FO who refused to even negotiate for the best free agent Guard available …the FO that is paying our BACKUP OLs more money than he accepted from Denver …the Guard who is currently ranked 3rd best in the NFL by PFF …THIMK!!!!

…I’m not sold on Tannehill being a franchise QB …not even close …but 4 years running he’s been sacked more than any other OB in the league …put on the ground more …hurried more …and not once has he quit

…did you watch that 17 yd run yesterday? …he didn’t slide, he took on two tacklers and got extra yds for the effort …whatever else he may be, hes no pu**y

…NOT comparing Tanny to Brady, but have you watched Brady when he’s getting constant pressure? …and when he’s not? …world of difference …even w/o Brady the Pats went 11-5 …its a team game and our TEAM sucks …period

…and who the hell believes anything Dave says now? …this is a team/FO in total disarray …the finger pointing is rampant …everyone has their aholes puckered dreading what’s coming…good god gerty, even the players wives been running their mouth lately (on radio, twitter, and the police station), doing nothing but bashing the fins

…give it a break, eh …this organization a SH*T load of problems much worse than Tanny!

Word is finally leaking out of Dave; No body wants to be Tanehill’s teammate. Now the organization has to consider a different direction at the QB position, regardless the cost. Once the QB has lost his teammates’ confidence the rest is irrelevant. Need to move on. $20 million in dead $, but who cares for one year, we are carrying over 10 million in unused cap $ from this year. So we’ll be working with 10 million less than the rest of the teams, but what the heck, you would think we are doing that any way. We should be able to get a second round pick for him.

Yes Freak I am a homer. Regardless how inept this staff may be starting w the owner. If you were to put 5 pro bowlers in the positions mentioned this is a playoff team in spite of Tannehill. But, that is all they would be because of the QB position.

Glad Matt Moore didn’t come in the game yesterday, because we would have won.

Chris, Tannebaum should be fired regardless of the 3 year plan or not. Signing Tannehill when you did not have (ala Seattle) to deserves to shown the door, sorry but true.

We have the worst guard play I have ever seen in a NFL.

    Believe Ajayi is for real!

  • Phinfreak

LMFAO! Dunner you’re a homer. You’re probably thinking w 5 players this is a playoff team. BwaaHahaha.

Nobody in this organization has a clue.
That last snap is a microcosm of this entire organization.

I’m all for Ross taking this embarrassment of a team to Los Angeles.

Move up in the draft!???!? Bwaaaahaha please waaaahaha. What? What? To select another injured project? Waaaahaha.

    Boycot tickets.

  • Chris

Unless Ross fires Tannenbaum, the Dolphins will remain a hot mess..
Tannnenbaum is not going to take any of the blame for the disaster this year..
He claims he has a three year plan.. After this year I don’t believe he deserves another year much less two more. Everyone knew that offensive line was a mess and they totally neglected to do anything about it.. Thank Tennenbaum And his infinite wisdom.. Cut you losses with him Mr. Ross.Start fresh clean out that front office from top to bottom.. After doing that, maybe you can attract a quality manager and a head coach..

  • Dunner

I don’t think that we need as many quality starters as most may think. Obviously 2 guards, 1 CB and 2 LBers = 5 quality starters. Would like to think we get at least 1 via draft, would really be nice to get 2 or even 3. But w our latest track record, we’ll take 2 and be happy. The other 2 or 3 could come via free agency. Free agent players don’t need to be the best out there, get a few lunch pale guys that grind/compete and are at least average and/or above.

  • Dunner

Give the new Head Coach ALL the power. Ross has shown that he doesn’t have an eye for NFL exec’s. Hire a new head coach and give him the entire package w all the power. The only way we’ll get a proven guy here!

  • Ralph

Hope the front office is ready
We need lots of quality starters
