Changes NEEDED On Defense

The Dolphins were supposed to have a better defense this season, especially after signing Suh to a record-breaking deal. Instead, Suh has yet to get a hurry or sack on the QB, and the defense has regressed from last season. Something is clearly wrong with this picture, and it needs to be fixed immediately – if not sooner!

I was never a fan of Coach Coyle and was very disappointed that he was brought back this year for another season. It’s made mind “blowingly” clear after each game, as the defense gets progressively worse, that he has no idea how to get the most out of his defensive players. Coyle should be fired immediately – if not sooner! But unfortunately, sports wagering fans are not betting on that happening anytime soon. So if Coyle is not going to be fired, then there at least needs to be some shake up on the personal side.

The Kelvin Sheppard experiment at middle linebacker is not working, and it is time to at least move Koa Misi back to the inside. Misi is nothing special, but he is more disciplined and will not get beat as much as Sheppard. Sheppard is getting beaten like a dead horse out there, and he is clearly hurting the team more than helping it. Move Misi back inside, and either put Sheppard on the outside or McCain on the outside. Chris McCain has fallen out of favor with the coaching staff, but why not give him a shot, it’s not like anyone else is making that much of an impact.

One other option would be to move Jenkins into the middle linebacker position. I know it sounds desperate, but desperate time needs desperate measures. Yes, he doesn’t have any experience at that particular position, but he is all over the field and the middle linebacker position may be a perfect fit for him. The other option is to put undrafted rookie Zach Vigil in at middle linebacker and see if this pup has any bite.

The loss of Delmas was definitely underrated, and it is evident that the Dolphins were a much better defense with him in the lineup. Last season, the defense fell apart after he got injured. And this season, they have looked like a bunch of chickens running around with no heads. It is evident that Delmas was not just a good Safety, but he was a leader of the defense and did an excellent job of getting players in the correct position.

Walt Aikens has been Delmas’ replacement, but he has looked completely lost out there. I think it’s time to give Michael Thomas a shot at safety and see if he can at least play more disciplined ball. The drawback to this move is Aikens is a second-year guy from a small school, bouncing around from cornerback to safety, so his learning curve might be steep. MAYBE though, Thomas can give some more stability to the back end of the defense?
Then there are all those stupid penalties, the defense needs to stop making so many. The Bills had one drive last week where the Dolphins stopped them on third down twice, but both times the Dolphins committed an errant penalty that kept the drive alive and ultimately led to a Bills touchdown. This is unacceptable, and the coaches need to start getting their players more disciplined.

Lastly, what happened to blitzing the QB? The Dolphins vaunted defensive line is tied for the last place in the entire league with 1 sack – ONE SACK!!! The coaching staff should be posting this stat on all the defenders’ lockers because that is just downright shameful. Does the rest of the Miami Dolphins News fans have any suggestions to get this defense to play better football?

Nothing changes till philbin is fired.
Also personnel still hasn’t addressed OL and LB talent vacuum. Fire those bums too.

Can we hire you to fix things!

    Gotta Fire Philbin
He is the one that traded Davis and the one that was responsible for us not signing Mathis
What a disaster of a coach
The whole defense is in complete disarray
Corner, safety, linebackers, and front 4
So why are we keeping Coyle and Philbin
Start the rebuilding now by getting a new coach now.

Fire both Philbin & Coyle. Bring in either Schwartz or promote Duffner to the DC position. Promote Lazor to HC. At least this guy has some energy when he talks and might just be able to excite his players. I agree, move Misi to MLB and give McCain a shot. Sit down Sheppard! The bye week would be the time to make the changes. However, I don’t think they will be made anytime soon unless we loose to the Jets Sunday. I knew Harbaugh would not come, but I was all for looking hard at Kubiak & Wade Phillips as DC. Once Ross brought back Philbin, our season was defined!

Our LBs are the weakest link, while the D line is capable of being our best. We can’t stop the run and get no QB pressure. Switch to a 5-2 defense. Somebody ask Philbin and Coyle why don’t they so this
