Can Miami Take Advantage of Prime Time Appearance

A Prime Time match up with huge implications for Miami.

This Prime Time match up has huge implications for Miami.

Dolphins have a shot in Prime Time to prove there is a new culture in South Florida.

The Miami Dolphins will be playing in a Prime Time Football game tonight at 8:25pm on the road against the New York Jets in what appears to be ugly conditions.

Miami has been a losing franchise for many years, and as a result don’t get awarded many prime time games.

Good teams shine the brightest on the biggest stages. So, the big question is, can Miami take advantage of this opportunity tonight by winning and give themselves their first winning regular season record since 2008?

The pay per head sportsbook in the world initially opened this game with the Miami Dolphins as the -3 point favorite. The line got quickly hit by the wise guys betting on the Jets, and the line dropped to -2.5. For most of the week the line has stayed steady at -2.5 for the Dolphins, but late last night the line went back to -3 and is now currently sitting there.  The action is coming in at a 2 to 1 ratio on the Dolphins, which means it is not very lopsided in terms of betting.

Points covered or not doesn’t really affect the we fans. We just want Miami to find a way to come out of this game with a victory.

But, looking at the money does offer indicators…and the indicators are looking better for Miami.

The “money” is predicting a total score of 38, which is a very low total in terms of an NFL game. This might be because the weather is supposed to be cold, and wet, and generally when NFL game totals are in the 30’s they end up staying under.

Prime Time games make team shine or shrink.

All signs point to this being a sloppy game, due to the weather, and two backup QB’s are being called to be the starters tonight.

This is where the short film study of the two QB’s come in.

You cans see why after watching the study that the game plan for both teams on offense will be identical: Run the ball.

If Miami can get Jay Ajayi going, then this will take pressure off of Matt Moore and enable him to take a few shots down field on some well-timed play action calls. Moore also needs to be very careful with the football, because turnovers are going to be a key to this sloppy game.

One thing not pointed out in the study was Moore has had serious fumble issues.

As for the Jets, whoever it is, Matt Forte or Bilal Powell, both players could be extremely problematic to the Dolphins shaky run defense. However if Miami can stop or even limit the Jets running game, then this will allow Miami to be more aggressive in pass rushing Petty. But, there needs to be caution as Petty is a mobile QB with a strong arm, so Miami needs to be careful to not be overconfident an offer big-play freebies.

This is a division game, and even though the Jets are eliminated from the playoffs, they would like nothing more than to play spoiler and ruin the Dolphins chances of making the playoffs.  This is going to be a close, hard fought game that is probably going to come down to which team makes the least amount of mistakes in the 4th quarter.

Go Fins!!!

Win next week and in. Beat the dreaded Bills in their house, in December, on Christmas Eve (I will be at this game. I’m a wimp though, I will be sitting in the Jim Kelly section = heated seats). That is all there is to it. No matter who does what Sounds so easy, however, we all know how we struggle in Buffalo, especially in December. But hey, we usually struggle in the Meadowlands as well. Not this team, not under Gase’s watch.

Beat the Bills and treat week 17 as our bye. There will be no benefit to winning. Let me rephrase that, no benefit to have Wake, Suh, Albert, Tunsil, Laudry, Parker, Kiko playing a part in winning. I know, someone has to play, but treat it as such. 3 runs and a cloud of dust. 3 TEs a 1 WR, LOL!!!

9-5, wining season, playing meaningful games in December, a chance to clinch in week 16. What a breath of fresh air. The season end’s have been so difficult for this franchise for a decade.

How do we fixed this or do we lip threw the remaining two games hoping these players get healthy?

    L Tackle
    B. Albert questionable
    L. Tunsil

    R Guard
    J. Bushrod questionable
    K. Urbik

    • admin

At this point Steve…there’s no fixing it. Tunsil, Albert, Pouncey won’t heal till next year. Steen won’t get faster, urbik stronger or Bushrod younger. This is a critical situation without any options. They need more youth, more talent and more depth. Urbik is a G. Steen is a G or C in a drive blocking scheme. Young is nice and surprised me at LT, but he is limited. James has rebounded nicely and is the only young and healthy OL men we have. Lemmus must get his wish…get them F.A. / rookie linemen in next year offseason. Right now, just cross your fingers and hope for the best.

Would the Fins have to give up any draft picks for signing players off another teams practice squad this month? I saw this scenario tonight.’

Tuesday, September 29, 2015 The Cowboys addressed their vacant roster spot by signing David Irving off the Kansas City Chiefs’ practice squad

It proved to be a wise moved:
David Irving number 95 DE Was available to the entire NFL but Dallas signed him off Kansas city practice squad and he took over the 4th quarter of the game defensively against Tampa Bay Bucs tonight.

        .
Irving plays both defensive end and defensive tackle, which made him a logical signing. Dallas was down to just seven defensive linemen on their 53-man roster – only six of which are healthy.

That can be attributed to several factors – namely, injuries and disciplinary action.

If both of the centers are injured! Then what?

    Center
    M. Pouncey
    A. Steen

  • Dunner

    How about that???

Swept the Jets, taking care business within the division.

Wake gets a strip sack, again, and his first career INT. Wake and Suh destroyed Petty.

Another starting QB Miami sends to the sidelines, brutal.

Moore played as well as we could ask. His 1 Int was under thrown other wise that may have been 5 TDs.

There is that guy Sims again. Making another case for his return. Should Miami take a TE in the first round (as predicted by many), that could make a nice TE combo, should Sims return.

Special Teams Again.showing up and making a difference. Walt Aikens AGAIN!!!

J-Train has reaches a 1000 yds. A thousand yard rusher in Gase’s first year, good sign. J-Train may have benn slowed lately but keep feeding him. Need him vs the Bills for sure.

How about Xavien Howard? All week saying he was going to play, coaches mentioning he should get a few reps, work him back into the fold. NOT, right in the fire shortly after the game starts and holds his own, no, does a great job considering.

We have 3 very good CBs. There was a time when we weren’t sure who our first CB was, let alone 3 good starters. @ nice young physical CBs, in Howard and Lippett. And should Maxwell continue to play like he has, WOW!!!

Well, 9-5, yes 9-5 after the dreadful 1-4 start, WOW! Get to sit back and watch other teams eliminates themselves and other while we sit there as a wild card team. Yes, PLAYOFFS!!!

    • Lemmus

..not so simple …today will be telling …if Denver wins out, no matter what we do, they get the wildcard, not us …there are other combos but they all require outside help

…so root for the Pats …today only …unless of course you think there is a chance in hell the Jests will beat them next week 🙂

…yes, I like our CB situation as well …and Maxwell …bless his heart …OWNED Marshall last night …but if he’s not here next year, Lippet is looking good too

    • admin

Xavien and Lippett both look very good…and as for Sims, he is looking impressive. I liked him coming into the season…Jimmy, not so much. I got him on this one. This team has all sorts of things going their way talent, cap control, youth, good coaching and now two QB’s. I’m quite pleased with the season and the direction of this team…sounds about right for the world to explode, given my luck.

  • Steve

    Prime Time:

Yes! This 2016 Miami Dolphins team can handle Prime time and Coach Adam Gase
has lead this team passed 8 wins Joe Philbin best season was 8 wins. Matt Moore is who we thought he was a QB with a quick release with accuracy on most passes very capable of winning the big games. This is a special team and has earned the right to play on Prime Time TV.

He could earn us a pick next year…except now they are saying Tanny needs surgery. That sucks.

      • Lemmus

“may” need surgery …just sports reporters speculating in order to have something to write about …when Gase says it, I’ll believe it …until then, more fake news, eh

        • admin

Here real deal story from salguaro: grade 2 sprain…a tear, not off the bone like was being reported in a grade 3. MCL’s heal so they are waiting for knee stability to see. His ACL they need to do a scope to see the extent. ACL”s dont heal so he might need surgery or wear a brace and run the risk of it tear later. He isn’t coming back this year unless a miracle happens essentially… surgery would be 4 months recovery to repair a tear not off the bone.

    • Lemmus

…be interesting come ’17 to see what happens with Moore …there are probably six or more NFL teams that would start him today if he was on their roster …including the Jests …and that was just as true last year …but Moore likes the stability in Miami and chose to stay as backup, with a sweet 5 mil paycheck

…but if Doughty shows any real signs of developing, this team needs several high caliber players to make a run …Moore’s cap makes getting them more difficult …and putting him on the trade block would likely draw some decent offers …especially if his play holds up in the next 2 games

      • admin

It’s a possibility for sure if he continues to shine…let’s hope he does so we can anguish over the decision.

        • Steve

Moore has played the back up role for five season and has done every thing the organization has ask him to do. We all know that Matt Moore should have been the Dolphins starting QB Tannehill 1st two years. We would have won more games maybe some play offs but that’s history.

To trade Matt Moore next season is not wise considering the organization needs two QB’s and not having a may pop tire as a back up, this is recipe for disaster waiting to happen I think if Tannehill is not ready next season?

Miami traded the team’s sixth round pick (186) this year, and the franchise’s third- and fourth-round pick in 2017 to the Minnesota Vikings to get back into the third round to select Karroo. Admin and Fin Fans We do have to address this issue in a few months but Matt Moore would be out the questioned.

  • Lemmus

    …the good news
…its official …at the very worst, the fins have a winning season
…and they have a backup QB who could start for a number of NFL teams
…like the Jests for instance 🙂

    …the bad news
…the running game is dead in the water …go figure

    …the bottom line
…the gunslinger had a good day
…we won with his long ball ….supposedly his weak point

…just two victims left …Bills and Pats
…and one to watch …the Broncos
…I hate to say this but I’m actually going to root for the Pats in Denver on Sunday
…Pats win, we’re back in a playoff slot
…and sorry Dunner, but no way do the Pats lose to the Jets team we saw today
…ergo, the Pats will clinch if they beat Denver or the Jets 🙁

…which means the Fins-Pats game will probably be meaningless to them
…and Belicheat will likely rest some starters
…while we could still be fighting for that sixth seed

The run game failed for 2 reasons: there line is talented and healthy, and ours is talented (except maybe Urbik as a center) and beat up bad; and, the Zone stretch needs someone getting to the second level (which it’s meant to be the center) and Urbik and Steen aren’t cutting it. I’d disagree on Moore’s deep ball. That pick is his deep ball skills. The bomb to Stills was thrown to a spot in man with no safety threat and Landry huffed 68 yards after an 6 yard throw. But, I agree on the rest. Go Pats. An it sucks that they picked up the WR from Arizona — figures. In the end, Miami did it in spectacular fashion and appears to be a team legitimately on the rise. Nice part is they stepped on the Jets to get there!

      • Lemmus

…yeah, the pick was his to own …but still, he threw it deep successfully on them a couple of times so the Bills will have to plan for it, not pull their safeties up against the run every play

…good read on the run game ….we may get Pouncy back and that would certainly help …but he has his own problems …we need starting guards AND a center out of this coming FA/draft …but we need a couple good LBs even more ….the FO has its work cut out

…the Jests beatdown was sweet …love to see them do it to the Bills next Sunday but who knows which fins team will show up …either way, we have our first winning season in a long time secured …getting to the play-offs would be icing on the cake but win or lose, this season has been a major success for the fins …only the die-hards saw a 9-5 as possible after that 1-4 start

…did I mention that I officially hate Verizon? …damn signal kept dropping out during the game …not that I would ever yell at an inanimate object …or use language that would make a bartender blush …no, not me …most of the game all I could get was the play by play results …and the score wasn’t updating for minutes at a time …life in the boonies 🙁

        • admin

hahhaha…I hate techNOlogy! I think it’s a serious OL FA/ Draft. Center is a must Pouncey has limitations as well as strengths in my eyes, but the injuries is a major turn off. They say they’d only save 3mill or so next year on him — so he’ll be back and they’ll likely use a big chip as a replacement…and then in 2018 he’s gone, And yeah, LB’s are a must!!! I think they can beat the Bills, the run game while not as effective as it was when all OL are healthy it serves a purpose and can crack open lesser Run D’s…also, PA is very effective because of it. Ashame because I see Ajayi getting questioned and pressing. He isn’t the fault. He needs to get at to get 1 yard before the line of scrimmage to be solid, at the LOS to be good and 1 yard over to be great. If he had the Jets RB last night it would have been 200. I believed till the debacle of game 5 — became uncertain after that. Not anymore though.

ohh, I hear they are saying Tanny might need surgery now…ACK!!!
