Can ‘Fitz Magic’ Lift Phins To 3 In a Row?

Can Phins overcome a tough Bills team to go 3-7?

Few expected the Miami Dolphins to win a game this season much less a 2-game winning streak. But, beyond the media hype of ‘worst team ever’, Phins have now led in their past 4 games going into the 2nd Half.

This type of play is a far cry from the blowouts by double-digits in the first two weeks.

This young Dolphins team is entering uncharted territory after their last two wins; and in the process, they are playing some pretty decent football.

Miami could put together one of their longest win streaks in recent memory

The Dolphins are hosting a Bills team that’s lost 2 out of their last 3 games.  When they last faced each other up in Buffalo the Dolphins had the lead going into the fourth quarter but were unable to hold on. With both teams trending in opposite directions since then, the Dolphins have become a better bet with the pay per head bookie service like AcePerHead.com to take the win streak to 3-in-a-row.

With all that being said, the Dolphins are still the home town underdogs at +6. But it’s much better than the double-digit underdogs they have been.  It will be interesting to see how this team responds now that they have got a couple wins notched on their record.

Will complacency set in?

Miracles happen one game at a time

The Dolphins defense has really stepped it up the last two games and that has been a major reason for their newfound success.  Josh Allen though has proved a serious double threat against the Dolphins.  Miami must keep him in check. At the very least, they need to limit Allen’s run production and force him to beat them with his arm.

On offense, the Dolphins running game has to find someone to be productive with Walton still suspended. With Drake traded away, Ballage and Laird would be the two main candidates.  Unfortunately, last week both of these players were pretty much nonfactors in the running game. Ballage rushed 20 times for only 43 yards. His 2.2 yards per carry average was very disappointing. Laird fared even worse with just 2 carries for 4 yards and a 2.0 yards per carry average.

Maybe Myles Gaskin should get some more reps?

The only player who had any success on the ground was actually Fitzpatrick who ran the ball 4 times for 23 yards for a 5.8 yards PCA and a touchdown.  Miami can’t rely on Fitz to carry the run game.

When your most productive runner is your QB, there is a serious problem in the running game.

The Dolphins need a much better performance from their running backs AND offensive line… if they want to beat the Bills.

Will Fitzpatrick end up as Miami’s leading rusher?

This should be a close game because I expect Coach Flores to get the team up for the game. And the Dolphins will play aggressive because they have nothing to lose. The Bills, on the other hand, are in the midst of the playoff hunt and can’t afford to lose a game. This could make them a little more cautious and give the Phins the edge.

If the Phins do move to 3-7 it will be very interesting to see how the ‘talking heads’ spin it.
