Burden Of A Hero

hero

The burden of a hero is immense. Few dare to carry the heavy burden and fewer, once dared, actually can carry the weight without crumbling under the pressure. With the 2015 season on the line, Ryan Tannehill will face off against Tyrod Taylor. The winning QB will be a hero for his team in the 2015 season, and the loser has to look to 2016 for any hope of a postseason. The time is now for the Tannehill era. Whether hamstrung by a faulty line or problematic play calls, Tannehill must demand victory. He cannot sit on the sideline and smile at his or his offenses failings. There is no room for the quarter. There is no margin for failure. It’s fourth down for the season and that’s exactly where a hero is most comfortable.

Consider our hated arch-enemy Brady. Could you picture him smiling on the sideline after a safety? In comparison, I think of my icon at the QB position, Dan Marino. Marino would have ripped a new A-hole into the center whether it was the center’s fault or not. Marino, just like Brady, would bring fury to his offense and have demanded a score in retribution. The fire of leadership is in you or it isn’t. I’ve witnessed Tannehill carry his offense with his feet and arm – but what he needs to do most this week is carry his team with his leadership.

Leadership is an oft catchphrase that can carry a bit of an air of mystery as to its specifics. Depending on the venue, leadership has different attributes, in football, at the QB position, it is twofold – production and direction. QB’s must produce with completions and also must demand direction in the manner needed at the moment. Sometimes a “slap in the face” is needed and sometimes it’s a smile, a true leader knows when and which to use.

For all the physical battles, this game will come down to will. And the core of “the will to win” will be produced at the QB position. I believe Tannehill is smart enough. I believe he has the physical tools to be productive. What we need, and what the Dolphins need equally is leadership. Vacant stares and smiles don’t fit the bill when things go off track – instead, it seems dissociative leadership. Again, I loved Marino. I carry his demeanor as a lesson in life…demand totally of yourself and give totally of yourself and then when you demand totally of others no one can say boo – other than ‘I’m too soft to meet your standards’. The best pay per head reviews.

I love football for the totality of sacrifice it demands. It is the greatest game because it’s the closest game to the game of life. We live and we die and in between, we give our all to win an inch. Against the Bills, Ryan Tannehill must give his all and demand all from his squad. This game will come down to who will give more…more blood and more pain. That’s the beauty of football and that’s the beauty of life – victory amid the struggle.

The QB position is more than just throwing a pigskin. A QB must inspire with such inspiration that men, regardless of the sacrifice, give everything to the cause until the bitter end. We had such a hero in Bob Griese and Dan Marino – we need Ryan Tannehill to be such a man against the Bills. A hero is a rare thing, but it’s essential at the QB position in the NFL. This game is squarely on Tannehill. Tanny s**t his pants last week, and has not fared well on the big stage. This is a big stage with so much in stake. This is his time to sink or swim. If he sinks, the future of the position in Miami may well be up in the air as well.

  • I like every dolphfan was so discouraged from beginning to end in that game. Blown from
kickoff, ended my season. But reality set in and we can still make it, but slot of maturity and rallyand players have to become one unit, one mind set, put the fear of god at every game. Starting tomorrow.not addressing offensive line in the off season was a huge mishandle. Sitting our number 2 draft pick last week was a joke. Every player/coach needs to wake up and rally.

Really not canning Philbin last year was the start of failure. This years picks have contributed very little and it is biting us big time. They got a little too cute with the guard situation…and it could send more heads rolling.

how he performs tomorrow will seal the deal for me about who he is as a QB.

If you are still wondering “about who he is as a QB” and then you don’t know QBs…unless you are comparing him to guys Joey Harrington, Blaine Gabbert, Jeff George, Jake Cutler…..Id go on but there are better things to do then trying to justify another QB mistake by Stephen Ross and his band of idiots

Not so much wondering, but rather hoping and letting him have his full extension of rope to hang himself. I do disagree that he isn’t in the class of complete failures you listed. If he were on another team that used his athletics creatively like they did for a stretch last year and provided him with a consistent running game, he would be effective and in the 12-20 something range. Superbowl driving QB no, but not Jeff George ect. With this cast he needs to be more than that …he needs to be elite. No doubt it’s obvious to this point he is missing is not elite. Tomorrow will be a big one as he is nearly at the end of his rope
