Bringing back Louis Delmas is the right move?

At the start of free agency there were a few safety options on the market, however, the Dolphins busy acquiring Suh, and the rebuild of their receiving group, did not leave them with enough time and money to chase after any big name Safety on the market. However, the Dolphins just announced that they have re-signed Safety Louis Delmas to a one year $3.5 million dollar deal. (They also just re-signed Matt Moore and LaMichael James.)  As a side note before this recent signing, the phins had around $9 million left in cap space, so now they have around $5 to $6 million left.

Delmas played very well last season when he was paired with fellow teammate Reshad Jones. They have two very distinct playing styles, Delmas is a hard-hitting safety that can play in the box (his hard-hitting tendency is actually a big reason why he has been injured so much in his career), and Jones is more of a ball-hawking safety that patrols the back end of the defense. Together these two players’ unique skill sets allow each player to focus on what they do best, which makes them a great safety combination. So in terms of pure ability and fitting into the scheme on defense, most pay per head review sites fans would say that it was a smart move to re-sign Delmas. He played well for the first 14 games last season, and he clearly knows the Dolphins defensive system.

However, the biggest knock on Delmas, before they signed him in 2014 was that he could not stay healthy for an entire season, which he proved yet again when he was unable to play through last season. In the 14th week of the season, he suffered a season-ending ACL injury. Generally, ACL injuries take anywhere from 8 months to a year to heal and be back to playing form again, but everyone is different and in this day in age in medicine, players have been recovering at a faster rate. The one positive thing is that Delmas said today that he “is ahead of schedule in his knee rehabilitation and will be ready for Week 1 of the regular season.” If that is the case, then the re-signing of Delmas is the right decision, and we all know what to expect from him when he is in the lineup.

Obviously even if Delmas is ready to start the season in Week 1, the big multimillion-dollar question is can he stay healthy for an entire season, something which he has only done one time in his six-year career. What does the rest of Miami Dolphins news fans think about this latest player transaction by the Phins?

I would’ve preferred someone like Rolle. Just because of the health concerns. We still need a starting guard because even if they draft one early I’m not confident that Turner or Thomas is ready to be a good starter
