Then There Were 4 Miami QB’s

There are 4 Miami QB’s with Logan Thomas’ departure.

Of the remaining 4 MIami QB’s, only Tannehill and Moore are a lock.

Adam Gase has trimmed down to 4 Miami QB’s with the departure of Logan Thomas.

Thomas was massive at 6’6” and 250 lbs.

Thomas was a former 4th round pick.

Thomas even had some regular season experience.

Unfortunately for Thomas, none of it mattered enough to get a longer look for a chance to beat out 7th round pick Brandon Doughty or FA Zac Dysert. Adam Gase saw what he saw and pulled a fast trigger, one would presume, to get a longer look at  the other 4 Miami QB’s in five weeks when training camp opens around (the exact date TBA) July 28th.

Let’s be clear, only Moore and Tannehill are a lock, and of Dysert and Doughty, only Doughty has an football gambling long-shot-chance to make it – and that is likely on the practice squad.

BUT, since Miami has come out smelling like roses from some troubling issues, to go into the break as good as can be expected, let’s dream for a minute.

In reality, Thomas’ cut is more likely about his play, but there is a chance that it also has something to do with Doughty’s.

Whether it’s camp hype, or coach Gase’s “stay positive” motivation technique, or the truth, Doughty was given his praise for his ability. Beyond the “He has a presence about him. He has a swagger about him,” remarks by Gase. The close of this minicamp earned very high praise by Gase, “The thing that’s been interesting about him is that he seems to find completions. When I look at a lot of our film over the last three weeks before this week, even when he was wrong with where he was going, somehow he’d complete the football. He’s kind of got this knack of … He just sees the open guys.”

It’s a storybook tale for sure that began with Dan Marino‘s son and Brandon Doughty going to school together and Dan becoming Brandon’s mentor. The tale continued with not only Brandon landing on his hometown team, the Dolphins, but the very team of his legendary mentor. Not many could even dream up a story like this much less live it.

It’s very likely that it won’t end as it began, and that glass slippers aren’t in Doughty future…but, for now, he and the Dolphins – and their fans – can dream. Go Fins!!!

Moore’s on a short rope due to age and ability …likely his last year here …Case needs a hole card just in case Tanny flops …Marino saw enough in this kid to put his own judgement on the line for him …I think we may carry 3 on the roster if Case sees some of what Marino saw.
