2015 Playoffs FIN-ished!

19292909-standard

The 2015 road to the playoffs just ran out of steam and died at Meadowlands stadium – and with it this era of the Miami Dolphins.

All of coach Campbell’s mojo and intensity wasn’t enough to keep the machine running even in this most dire moment and Alamo of the season. Campbell looked as worn as his team, who were riddled with injuries nearly as bad as they were riddled by their former wide receiver Brandon Marshall. PLEASE, this isn’t a hit job on my beloved Fins…it’s the hard truth that once Philbin’s was exiled we got to see if it was coach or team – in part it was coaching, and in part it was also team: in totality it was a hope that turned to disaster. BUT, as the failings go beyond simply coaching and it’s not to say that replacing Lazor and another draft MIGHT create a better team: it would. Again, that word BUT comes crashing the party with “but it might not” and “but even if we get better, it might not be enough to capture a championship”!

BUT, is the operative word when it comes to the Dolphins. Tanny has some really nice moments, BUT they are nearly always interspersed with disaster that puts points on the board for the other team and kills momentum at crucial moments. Coach Campbell has a great personality and relates to the players, BUT due to inexperience or inability he can’t seem to scheme his way to victory. The defense has tremendous players like Jenkins, Suh and Jones, BUT they are counterbalanced by near voids at CB and LB. We have a deep, young and talented WR core, BUT we have an offensive line that even though it has been given high picks and high priced players, for lack of a better term, is offensive.

Next year…as that is all that’s relevant in the grand scheme of things, we will be older and more expensive. Grimey has been great, BUT he is no longer a number one corner and next year he will be less than this year. Cameron Wake is a true pillar of the Dolphin’s lore, BUT he took the worst injury a fast twitch player can take and is entering the final, expensive year of his contract in his mid thirties. Albert is a fantastic left tackle for a west coast pass oriented offense, BUT we see it isn’t the most conducive style for the team and QB. Miller can do great things when he wants and is given space, BUT he will be looking for a big contract next year and the risk and price is too much for a team over the cap and rebuilding. I could go on, BUT any more is redundant and too painful.

What this team needs, it might not be able to get – BUT I pray it does as it’s high time. We need a master stroke, nothing else will do. We need a great coach…not a good one, BUT a great one. We also need a personnel office with a true eye for talent that can hit high percentages on late round picks and nail the top two picks nearly every draft. BUT, the dismal part is manifold: we have a convoluted structure with an owner who is near inept when it comes to making the right choices for his franchise. I don’t fault Ross’ heart or want to be great, BUT I do fault his leadership in making it happen. Would greatness want to come to Miami and who even the best sportsbook or the best bookie software like www.AcePerHead.com, we get a double dose in both coaching and front office?

I’ve been a Dolphins fan since 78′ and I’ll admit after 2000 I have become more and more jaded – but being jaded isn’t due to lack of love. I love my Fins as I love football…it has absorbed a HUGE portion of my life stretching back to my childhood, BUT I came to a point years ago where that love can operate with truth. This offseason will determine the success of the next half decade plus, BUT if we somehow make the right choices, this next half decade could be a good one. BUT, the thing that will keep me on pins and needles is…will we. Either way, Dolphins I love you – GO FINS!!!

    The Miami Dolphins

    1. Will not address the true issues (Need A Proven Coach) Colleges I would recommend Shaw from Standford. I would not go after another (ASSISTANT COACH TO RUN THE DOLPHINS). PLEASE NO MORE!!! ASSISTANT MEANS JUST THAT.

    2. Everybody just had to have Devante Parker verses trading the draft picks for more Offensive linemen etc 1st on the agenda. Why didnt the management see this problem?

    3. Another QB must be drafted in the 3rd round (Proven to handle presure, throw accurately and deep ball proficient to play behind Tannehill and Matt Moore. The best QB need to ride the Bench a few years. (MATT MOORE REALLY SHOULD BE QB NOW)

    4. Need two power backs that are capable of carrying this team. (No more two for penny backs Please)

    5. Corner and Middle line Backs need addressing in the Free agency and draft. (Need proven college linebacker-Captain) no more nickel and dime backs.

    6. MIAMI DOLPHINS CURRENTLY WILL HAVE 1ST THREW 5TH DRAFT PICK. THEY CAN ACQUIRE MANY MORE QUALITY PLAYERS BY TRADING OUT. ( BUT THEY WILL MOST LIKELY GO OUT AND OVERSPEND ON MORE PLAYERS)

If I was the owner I would delete everything on my Dolphin team that contributed to failure coaches and players. Right now Landry, Wake and Suh I would keep everbody else would be looking tobe traded.

Agree, but don’t forget Jones, Jenkins, James and Matthews. I think they are keepers especially Jones who is amazing. Sadly, I disagree on Wake. Unless some miracle happens he is not part of a rebuild as I see it.

Agree with you Phinfreak we need to let Wake and Miller walk
Too expensive for a team that is in rebuild mode
Only way they get the Big bucks is with a contender that only needs one more piece to finish the team and that is not the Dolphins unfortunately
Undecided about Vernon – he is young and will be a pro player
We need too many players but the most important is offensive line starters with decent backups and tall athletic corners
After that we need linebackers specially a run stopping middle linebacker and a safety
But not journeymen – we need pro bowl type players at those positions
    Specially the middle linebacker
It’s going to take more than one draft
We will have to keep Tannehill for another season we cannot get as many players as we need this offseason but he does show big signs of regressing
I don’t have an opinion on coach Campbell yet – maybe by the end of the season we will be able to judge him better
Tannebaum is a cancer to our team though – we need a front office with eyes wide open not closed – his decision to not even make an offer for Mathis says all we need to know about him – pompous and a bad judge of personnel – bad mixture – our team will never be a playoff team with him running the personnel decisions

The whole convoluted structure with Dawn, Tannenbaum and Ross needs to be scrapped …keep Hickey if the next guy wants him. Vernon will want big money and I don’t think he will be worth what he is looking for. If he wants second tier dough fine. BUT, look at the Pats last night they took our old guy Freeney and made him quite valuable. Our staff rarely makes players play better.

So long as people buy tickets to watch this crap, we’ll continue with this crap.

Ross and his stupidity ( see Tannenbaum hire, Phil in,etc) will lock this franchise in failure.

I’d rather he move to LA and start a new team there. Otherwise nothing will change.

And ya’ll know I’m usually right.

    Next year?

Fire entire regime. Front office down.

Hire a Sean Peyton / Shanahan / Billick type HC. Let him control personnel.

Tannehill is not the future. He’s a stop gap. Marginal at that. Draft a QB in 3rd rnd.

Trade down from high 1st rnd. Accumulate pics.

Let high priced FA’s like Miller,Wake, etc leave.

Find value priced veterans at OG, CB, LB, and I would love to acquire a veteran QB ie Fitzgerald, Haasleback caliber starter.

It’s the first step in turning this disaster around v

Pretty much the recipe…it will take Ross finding a someone brilliant and making brilliant moves – I’m not so confident he can be that brilliant, though.

you blame Tannehill. but with that o-line good would suck he can be very good with a good line in front of him. is it his fault he can’t even get a snap from the center? you clearly have no knowledge of the game as it really is. just be quit.

      • M.J.

The line stinks and it was a tough day especially with a center rolling the ball to him. I have seen things I really like about his game and I think the west coast scheme doesn’t suit him,BUT at this stage of his NFL career, Tanny makes too many costly mistakes nearly every game. Those mistake for the most part have nothing to do with the line. The line has nothing to do with him missing out routes and throwing short (which is the one thing you can’t do on outs) time and time again. It has nothing to do with ball security under heat…and as a former WR it’s surprising. Now I think he would do waaaaayyyy better in a Shanahan style offense that would accentuate his ability to move, BUT Tanny still is lacking something and something BIG at this point of his career…can it be fixed, maybe, and then again maybe not.
