Will ‘Phins Play Better Sunday?

On paper, the Dolphins were supposed to be better this season and supposed to be competitively involved in the playoff hunt. However, the NFL teams need to prove their worth on the field, and the Dolphins at 1-3 have not done anything of the sort yet. Now the Phins have a new Captain leading the ship, and the big question is, can he steer this team into winning ways?

Dan Campbell has a lot on his plate and it will be a monumental effort for him to get this team to start winning football games, and this weekend against Tennessee will be the Miami Dolphins News fans first chance to see if he can make a difference. Many of the best pay per head reviews out there have blamed the coaching staff for the Dolphins despicable start, so now that Philbin and Coyle have been banished from the team, can the players play better?

Just in Campbell’s intensity and passion alone I believe that he can at least get the boys to play with a little bit more of a spark in their bellies. He was a former player that is only 5 years removed from the trenches of the field, which means he knows how these players are feeling and thinking better than most coaches in the league.

The three biggest things I will be looking for is whether or not Campbell can institute a more formidable running attack, stop the run on defense, and get aggressive in pass rushing the QB. In regards to running the ball, Campbell must give the running game a chance. The Dolphins are throwing the ball over 70% of the time, which is not a recipe for a balanced offensive attack. Campbell sounds like a ground and pound and old school type of coach, so I hope this translates into giving the running game more of a chance to prove it’s worth.

On defense, the Dolphins run defense is giving up 160.5 yards per game on the ground, which ranks dead last in the entire league. Campbell and new defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo must make it a priority this weekend and every game after this to stop the run. The Dolphins have talented players on the defensive line, and the coaches need to find the best way possible to maximize each of their players’ strengths. Suh is a workout warrior, but he has not made the impact we all hoped he would make so far. Suh and the coaching staff must prepare more wisely in order to take advantage of his size and athletic ability. In addition, the defense must take it personally that teams are running all over them, and embarrassing them as football players.

Lastly, the Dolphins need to be more aggressive and blitz and get more pressure on the opposing QB. Obviously when a team can run wild on you down and distance offers both pass and run options. Then getting pressure on the QB is more difficult, because the defense is too busy sitting on their heals defending against both run and pass. Clearly, if the Dolphins can do a better job of stopping the run, then they can be more aggressive with their pass rush, so these two things go hand in hand.

I believe Campbell knows what the Dolphin’s issues are and is aggressively addressing them, however, he has had only had two weeks, with one of those weeks being the bye week, so there is only so much he can change in such a limited amount of time. Hopefully, the first thing he can do this upcoming Sunday is to get the team fired up so they can play hard and be aggressive in the first quarter. Do the rest of the Miami Dolphins news fans think the Dolphins will look and play like a different and better team this upcoming Sunday?

The Fins should have a slightly better roster of talent and that should translate to a win by a FG. I dont think the expectation should be that now that Philbin and Coyle are gone the Fins are that much better, but I do believe it will correct much but not all of what ails this roster.
I think Campbell would have a different emphasis on player personnel than Philbin and it would emphasize the trenches.

Believe that we will see a inspired team. I am not sure that will be enough though. We need to see a MUCH MORE aggressive defense. That is where I would like to see the most change. If we lose or get beat down field for being to aggressive, so be it.
Then again, I sure hope we do not throw the ball 75% of time, and that there is more of a balance offensively.

Excited either way, if we fail and look putrid doing so, time for rebuild (can’t believe I am saying that), if we go down swinging and leave it on the field I’m fine with that.

Opening Day II, a few days away…. Let’s turn this thing around!!!!

hey Jack- for a time there I was hopeing for Mathis also thinking anything was better than what we had and I still do. But I watched part of the Denver game last week and almost fell off my chair because of the way they THREW him around. I couldn’t believe it.
I hope I don’t live to regret this but I think we are going to be the Patriots first loss of the season. You heard it first here!!
