Will Cameron be better than Clay?

There is no secret that the Dolphins have totally overhauled their receiving personnel this off-season, and there has been a lot of talk about the wide receivers, however, there is another position that will be contributing to the passing attack that was also quietly upgraded. The Dolphins really wanted to keep Clay on the roster, and I will admit that I was hoping we would be able to keep him as well, however, the Bills aggressively went after him, and snatched him away from the Dolphins, but luckily for Miami, they had an insurance plan by scooping up Jordan Cameron from the Cleveland Browns in the 11th hour.

Both players have had pretty similar careers, with each player having their breakout season in 2013, and then last year both players had a dip in production, mainly from nagging injuries. However, if both players are healthy, I would actually choose Cameron over Clay any day. Clay is more of an H-back that can do a bunch of things, however, he was never a great red-zone or seam threat. Whereas Cameron thrives in both the red-zone and in the seams and has a higher career yards per reception average of 12.3 yards.

Also, the year that Cameron was a Pro Bowl tight end in 2013, he had to catch passes from three different Quarterbacks. (Jason Campbell, Brandon Weeden, and Brian Hoyer.) Not only is Tannehill a much better QB than each of these players, but Cameron was able to put up big numbers even though he had to adjust to three different QB styles in one season. This shows that he is a QB friendly pass catcher and can quickly get on the same page with a QB, heck the guy recently said he has played with 15 QB’s in 4 years.

The Dolphins are already in their second week of OTA’s and Cameron and Tannehill are quickly developing a rapport. For starters, the Browns ran a similar offense in 2013 to what the Phins now currently run, which means he is ahead of the learning curve. Cameron has already been a favorite red-zone target in practice for Tannehill, and this should only flourish into a more consistent and beneficial relationship for both players. Cameron is a former basketball player who does very well on jump balls in the end-zone and will be a match up nightmare for defenses. His season-high in TD’s was in 2013 when he had to play with a moving carousel of QB’s, and the best pay per head services sites like www.AcePerHead.com would wager that with the help of steady QB play from Tannehill he can break that season-high total this season. What does the rest of the Miami Dolphins enthusiasts fans think about Cameron’s importance to the Dolphins passing game, and will he have a better season compared to Clay this year?

All comes down to HEALTH. If Cameron stays healthy throughout, he is more of a threat then Clay ever was. Cameron’s ability is much more suited for Lazor’s offense than was Clay’s abilities. Clay was not the most healthy player either, but effective in different ways than Cameron will be. More chunk plays, more red zone targets for Cameron than Clay ever had/seen during his tenure with the Fins. Keeping fingers crossed for Cameron’s health, because a healthy Cameron means positive production for the offense. Cameron will have people forget about Clay relatively soon.

Cameron if healthy can be the X-factor on our offense, especially in the Red-zone. He has great ball skills in the air and provides an even bigger target and catching radius than Clay

Durability is an ability. Cameron has never played a full 16 in his four year career (15 games during his pro bowl season). In that area, Clay is better. But when healthy Cameron is the better player. I’d have to give Clay a slight edge because when a player is hurt he will have 0 catches for 0 yards and will play 0 snaps.

Its not like clay is iron man either. Parker just had foot surgery. Will slow his progression

If we can move the ball as good as last year then we absolutely should be a top five scoring offense. I believe they were second in the NFL in getting to the red zone. With Parker and Cameron they could score a lot of points. People talk about the o line but we didn’t have Albert for much of the season and Pouncey was at guard. If our guards are only as good as last year the line will be better. Add Ajayi to pair with Miller and I see lots of points

Just read Mathis is still a trade possibility. Would turn a weakness into a strength

Yes this team is better equipped and built to score TD’s in the redzone compared to last years team. If the Dolphins can actually close out drives with TD’s instead of field goals, than this team will be a 10 win plus team

We all certainly hope he will have a better year than Clay but more important is hope that he stays healthy throughout the whole season including the playoffs
No question that the Dolphins should average at least 7 more points per game this year.
Our offense looks much better so far. Let’s hope it translates into better performance on the field and that everyone stays healthy.
