Who Will Be Here Next Year?!

Some Fin Fans want the Dolphins to lose, so come draft day, Miami will get a better pick.  Some Dolphins fans want to win because despite moving down the draft board wins set a culture of winning. Either way, right or wrong, all fans now have their eyes on 2016. It will be a big offseason. Big moves and wholesale change is coming. The question is, who will be here and who will not.

Offense sees James, Landry, Parker, Ajayi as the only “for sure” players to return. They are young and talented and building blocks with low price tags. Albert, Pouncy, Cameron, and Stills are talented but could fetch something in return as well as lighten the purse, so they are expendable. Miller and Mathews are a free agent and while Miller is talented, he has a history of nicks and will want a pretty penny – if either free agent stays, it would be him. Then there is Tannehill. I doubt he will not be here in 2016, but unless some stellar epiphany happens competition will be brought in to figure out if he is the man going forward.

The defense is a can of worms. Jenkins, Suh, Phillips, McCain, and Jones are the only shoo-ins to return. Whether it’s a big contract, talent or youth, all are set to be back. Vernon is a free agent and is likely to be signed, but I see it will probably be Vernon or Miller, but not both. The rest are all eligible for the scrap heap…not all deserving of it, but eligible.

The best bookie software sites like www.AcePerHead.com are saying that the coaching staff and front office all are eligible to be sent elsewhere, none are above reproach. Hickey and Campbell though are pieces that should be included in the Miami future. Both have excellent qualities and both have proven to be valuable. Campbell doesn’t seem ready to take over as coach. It’s not a knock as he has done far better than most could dream under insane circumstances. And Hickey might not be the top FO guy, but he has proven to be valuable in acquiring talent.

All in all, no one knows who will be here and who won’t. Ross is the only certain figure…and me, cause after all this time it’s “ride till I die”. After that, anything is possible. Go Fins!!!

LMFAO…Im reading the above and wondering if anyone has watched this organization since 2002? What in gods name are you counting on from this collection of dim wits? Ross? AYFKM?

This roster is in shambles. Coupled with their FA list, all the money theyve wasted on Suh and Tannehill, there is no way this roster gets fixed for next year. It will take a 3 -4 year project and thats IF by some miracle from heaven Ross makes a smart hire – which I seriously doubt will happen.

Welcome to the NEW CLEVELAND BROWNS !!

    I forgot Grimes, ouch!

As much as I like Grimes he must restructure or be released creating 6.5 million in space or 8 million $ in space post June 1. For me restructure or be released. He can not be counted on as covering the opponents #1 any more, and we would be drafting the top 1 or 2 CB in the draft to replace. Rookie McCain offers as much as Grimes now w a much, much higher ceiling.

      Yeah…he’s gone.

…Grimes has had a bad year after so many good ones …he’s playing injured is at least part of it …but we’ve seen this before with other fin pro-bowlers …a bad year followed by a great one …so I’m not sure how that will play out …if the coaches think its the injury, then he’ll get another year

…imnsho, we’ve enough needs on the OL without having to replace Pouncey this coming year as well …admin’s point is well made but then every player has holes in their game …I’d keep him

…at CB, Lippet may get a start if Mccain can’t play …he lacks any CB experience but showed a lot of possibilities in camp …he’s a gamble that may pay off …love to see if he can defend against Rivers

…Wake is old for this game but until he was hurt he didn’t show much any sign of age slowing him down …it will depend on how he plays in camp …we could do a lot worse than him and we need to cure the OL and LB problems first

…I don’t see any way we keep Matthews unless Parker turns into a complete bust over the last 4 games …we have too many decent receivers on the payroll now and Matthews is not going to give the fins any break …he was so pissed off at not getting playing time last year that he badly wanted a trade in camp …this is his money year, now or never …he’s gone

    Return or Not Return (Starters)

Offensive returners (definite): James, Landry, Parker, Ajayi, Pouncey, leaving G/G/TK/TE/RB/QB

Probables: Tannehill (for me I’m moving on, only if we can get a first or second round pick for him. He does have a friendly contract, so trade is not out of the question). Albert. Leaving G/G/RB/TE

50/50’s: Miller/Mathews. Would like to see us re-sign our own, meaning = Miller and Mathews.

All needs could be had via free agency/draft/re-sign (G/G/RB/TE)

Albert has to BIG a number to explore a trade and releasing him would create 5 million in cap space, but also carry 5 million in dead $ unless post June 1 which would then be 8.4 million in space and virtually zero dead $, so a restructure or release could happen (stay tuned), for me, keep. A restructure for Pouncey could be possible, no release though. Cameron release would create 7.5 million in space (consider it done)

Defensive returners (Definite): Suh, Jones, Jenkins, leaving DT/DE/DE/LB/LB/CB/S

    Probables: Mitchell, Aikens, leaving CB/DE/DE/LB/LB

50/50: Wake (find a way), Misi

All needs CB/DE/LB should be addressed via DRAFT

Wake must restructure or will be cut creating 8.4 million $ in space (could be used for both Vernon/Miller). I am a Wake fan through and through, find a way to stay! The release of Misi would create 3.7 million or 4.8 million post June 1. Consider one of the 2 done!

None of the players covered include 1st or second year players, or back-ups. Biggest back-up up for free agency for me would be Shelby (find a way). Consider Jennings gone creating 4 million in space.

There will be a new HC, Aponte will remain, as far as GM(s), your guess is as good as mine. Thats because our owner shares the same thinking, he doesn’t know either. There in lies the problem!

Those of you that have read my posts before know how I feel about Tannehill and our own. Re-sign Miller, Vernon, Matthews, Shelby (our own), move on from Tanny (even though we could do worse there, but no move would only put us right here again next year on the outside looking in, so make the move this year please). Tannebaum would be gone just on the Tannehill debacle, considering he could have waited a year to make a move (ala Seattle).

Yeah, also I doubt it would be a complete purge like Johnson did with Dallas…they are rare. I do want to move Pouncy. While works great on the second level, good in pass protect, he is terrible at point of attack. I’d keep him and albert if we stay in a passing system, but if he try to be a running team I’d move on.

If we are to have any chance at Cowher or Chucky we would have to turn over football operations to them (which I would gladly do). To get anyone with a name we will have to clean house on the GM side. Personally I have been a fan for 43 years and the problem is obvious…….it is the ownership. Ross knows nothing about football and it shows…

    • admin

I don’t think either are coming back to the game….too much money and far less work, plus I think Ross might be gun shy after Parcells to do that again. I like Chucky…he’d have some great pressers for us!

Dawn is very talented, but the whole stab in the back of Ireland. Ireland was a jackass for sure, but you dont want that…As a high profile coach or GM that would be a sticking point. Remember Taylor in Buffalo was brought in for a dime. Also, guys like Albert might miss the window of a rebuilt franchise and might be of better use getting picks in return so the team as a whole can hit the window at once. I love Albert, but he is a pass blocker more than run blocker and has a history of injury. It all depends on who comes in. Albert and players like hit fit more in a reload than rebuild. Least that’s the way I see it. Your on point alot Lemmus, so I might be off.

  • Lemmus

…I’m counting on Dawn Aponte to work her magic with the cap numbers and at the very least keep us in the play for both Vernon and Jordan …what she won’t be able to do is make us a player for any top-tier free agent with the possible exception of the OL where salaries average well below most other positions …I think we will get at least one free agent OL …whether he will be top tier is the question

…add Albert to the “sure” list …despite aging and injuries, when he’s in the game, the OL is much better

…I just don’t see how they can afford to bring in any real competition for Tannehill …that would require big money for a free agent or expending a 1st round pick on a QB that could well NOT win such a competition …despite all the naysayers, I’m convinced that, for better or worse, Tannehill has at least another two years here.

…I don’t see how Campbell stays except as HC …as I’ve said before, short of a total meltdown, he will be in the mix and likely to stay if Ross can’t find a “sure thing” HC on the market …that will be difficult under any circumstances …we’ve all seen him repeatedly flame out when going after top tier talent in the HC and GM positions …and I think his experience with Philbin could sour him on promoting another OC/DC to HC …how likely is it that a top tier coach would risk his career on Ross and the Dolphins …especially if Tannenbaum remains as czar?

…couldn’t agree more that the entire FO should be replaced (with the exception of Aponte) …most certainly jet-boy Tannenbaum should be gone …when your top three draft picks fail to start, even Hickey should be gone …its on him that they passed on drafting a top tier OL instead of an injured WR

…but here we go again ..chaos will ensue unless Ross can hire a proven GM …there is no good answer unless Ross can pull a hat trick by giving a new HC the GM reins as well …and I’m of the opinion that much of the fin’s problems really lie with the owner and he’s here to stay imnsho …the fins are an ego thing for him and he’s got no incentive to sell
