The Riddler?

One of the biggest enigmas wrapped in a riddle for the Miami Dolphins is in the name of Dion Jordan. The Dolphins traded up in the 2013 draft to select him as the third overall pick. During his first off-season he was still in the process of rehabbing a bum shoulder, and after he was deemed healthy enough to play the coaching staff often was befuddled in how to use him. His rookie year was pretty much a red-shirt year, and big things were expected from him coming into the 2014 season. He was being praised during mini-camp, however right before the season started he failed a drug test, and then as if to add insult to injury he failed a second drug test.

To say that his first two years in the league have been a disappointment would be the understatement of the year. In his 2 year career, he has made a total of 46 tackles, and 3 sacks. He has been effective on the special teams unit, blocking a field goal, and recovering a blocked field goal attempt. In Jordan’s defense, he has not made very mistakes when he has been given playing time, and he has done well covering tight ends. However, he and the coaches still deem him as a defensive end, which means that he would need to beat out both Wake and Vernon in order to receive more playing time.

The mysterious part is that the Dolphins were weak and thin at the linebacker position all season, so why did the coaches refuse to give Jordan some reps at outside linebacker? Most of the best bookie software sites like www.AcePerHead.com would say that Jordan has at least been productive when he has had a chance to play, so why not make a position change, and let him try to fill a much-needed void at the outside linebacker spot? Honestly, what is the harm in trying to at least see if he can play outside linebacker? Everything we have been told since we drafted him was that he was an athletic freak of a young man, so why not at least give it a shot. If Jordan truly is a real solid football player, then he will be able to make an impact wherever he is lined up. After two seasons of barely seeing the field, even though he was the third overall draft pick in 2013, means that he is on the tipping point of being considered a bust anyway, so if he does fail at outside linebacker, then it is not really that big of a deal, because going into his third year pretty much all sports gambling fans have already written him off as a bust anyway.

I believe that Jordan has some talent, however, besides him lacking in the maturity department and being accountable for his actions, he needs some help from his coaches in order to develop into the player that everyone thought he could be. Heading into his third season, I do not want to hear the coaches say that they still can not find the correct way to use him. The coaches need to take some responsibility as well, and start finding a way to utilize his athleticism going into his third season, so why not start by experimenting at outside linebacker? They already made a position move with Misi this season, so why not do something similar with Jordan?

Follow me and my conversion theory, trust me if Chip got a hold of DJ this us what would ensue. RT17 + DJ95 = 7. This guy has all the physical tools and abilities to translate into an NFL TE. Serious/ Immediate Red Zone Threat.

Jordan was drafted number 3 in the 1st round right? I have not heard Jordan getting counseling and the Dolphin staff ask someone like Tony Dungy recommendation on the best mentorship program or to mentor this Guy who wants to throw his football future away. I would right now test him twice a month until March 2015. Any positive drug test, trade him immediately and take your loss.

DJ is a major BUST. He has zero fast twitch and lacks upper body strength at POA to set edge. He lacks quickness needed to cover backs 1:1 but has long speed that allows him to run w TE’s but only on seam coverage. Unable to change directions in coverage and plays too high to play coverage as LBer.

He’s just not quick and stout enough as a pure hand in dirt DE and not athletic enough to play OLB. Lack of first step burst prevents him from playing hybrid OLB/DE in 2 pt stance.

This is why coaches can’t figure out how to use him. He does nothing well enough to settle him into one position.

Best thing to do is trade him for middle to late rounder and part ways w another failed reach by regime.

I think this guy is a bust after they were patient with him and he goes out and fails TWO drug tests. I think they need to trade him maybe to the Jets or Oakland. He evidently doesn’t appreciate the honor that was given him. I don’t think they have the time for a questionable player.

The failure to develop and use Jordan is the strongest example for those that think Philbin in not head coach level ability.
