The Call Heard Around the World

Every football gambling fan and their mother watched the Super Bowl yesterday, and the real Champion was the NFL, who received its best viewership ever for a Super Bowl. It was a very entertaining game, but the biggest play and reason why every football gambling fans will be talking about this game is that Pete Carroll and the Seahawks on 2nd and goal from the 1-yard line with around 20 seconds left in the game decided to throw the ball in the middle of the field, which resulted in a game-sealing interception by the Patriots.

The reason the call was so baffling was that the Seahawks have arguably the best and most ferocious running back in the entire league in Marshawn “The Beast” Lynch. The Patriots could not stop him during the entire game, and on first down, he nearly scored a touchdown. So with around 20 seconds left and one time out, and three more possible downs, why in the world would you not run the ball? Why would a team that is known for running the ball, with a Beast of running back not just run the ball right up the gut?

Not only did they decide not to run the ball, but they threw it in the middle of the field. At the very least throw a fade to the corner of the endzone, where only your player can catch it or it goes out of bounds. This is football 101, why throw the ball right in the middle where most players are situated.

The offensive coordinator said he wanted to throw the ball so he could kill some clock so the Patriots would not have any time left if the Seahawks scored. First of all that makes no sense, because if you want to run time off the clock, then you run the ball, you definitely don’t throw the ball, where it can be incompleted and the clock stops. That call to throw the ball into the middle of the field not only cost the Seahawks their second Super Bowl win in 2 years, but it is probably the worst call by a coach in the history of all sports. Carroll might as well have let Wilson hand the ball off to the Patriots. Even the Seattle players after the game were openly questioning the coaching staff’s decision not to hand the ball off to their beast.

What does the rest of the free bookie software and Phins fans think about that call that ultimately lost Seattle the game?

About 100 threw 120th pick Miami can draft Langford.
The more I watch Jeremy Langford I think about Ricky Williams style of running but more elusive.

Miami should really wheel and deal to move out of the 14th pick. Lets be real about this. later in the 1st round they can pick up/Draft Eddie Goldman or Malcolm Brown both who I think are franchise/pro bowl players.

I agree 100% Seattle should have Run the Ball all four downs.

Now our team can get their Running back in the 4th round.

When discussing the top Big Ten running backs, Langford is rarely mentioned in the same breath as Wisconsin’s Melvin Gordon, Nebraska’s Ameer Abdullah or Indiana’s Tevin Coleman. But with 12 straight 100-yard rushing performances against Big Ten competition, Langford earned his way into the conversation.

Langford emerged as not only the most reliable and efficient back, but also the best all-around player at the position in 2013. Langford finished the 2013 season with 1,422 rushing yards and 18 rushing scores, six more than Bell had in 2012.

Dolphins Fans Let’ not kid around we need a serious running game Folks. Think Well Balance Team to win. Not one Dimensional.

Michigan State produces very good running backs, and doing well in the big 10 running the ball is a good sign

  • Seth Williams

Definitely a horrible call. It’s 2nd and goal from the one, you have one time out left to burn, you have one of the most physical Running Backs in the league along with one of the most mobile QB’s in the league. Why the hell do you throw it???? Lynch just gained 2 yards on 1st down! You only have ONE more to go! If i wasn’t calling a straight run play with Lynch, I’d toss out there a run option for Wilson to pull it back and take it himself.

Not to mention that the Pats would have possibly let Lynch score on the next carry to save a little time for Brady to go down and get them into field goal range. A call that many people and an organization and staff will never forget. Why resign Lynch if you are not going to use him?

    • Jimmy Bourbon

Yes exactly. I was thinking that as well, that had the Seahawks run, the Pats may have let him walk in to save some time for a late game tying field goal opportunity

In my 40+ years of watching football, that was absolutely the worst play call I have ever seen.

Regardless of that call, the contrast in coaching between superbowl and playoff teams and Philbin and the Fins coaching regime is glaring. There is no hope that this staff could ever elevate this team to winning in the playoffs much less a SB appearance.

Players win games, coaches lose em.

Everyone in the stadium was questioning this decision. Now the excuses have changed in just one day. Plain and simple, they should have gone with Lynch. Guaranteed they would have scored. Patriots defense has not been the best against the run all season. Carol just got too smart for himself. Sometimes, like in most cases, teams defeat themselves calling bad plays to defeat the Patriots.
