OC Christensen Man Of Character
We have all heard how this new regime, unlike the previous, will have Ryan Tannehill’s back. But, doesn’t every staff say the same thing? After reading up on Clyde Christensen, one story made up my mind, that whether he will end up a great OC or another Bill Lazor, he isn’t a man full of bull. And that’s the truly interesting thing with new offensive coordinator Clyde Christensen, he actually might be telling the truth.
During Christensen’s time on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers coaching staff, Christensen bonded with quarterback Trent Dilfer. In the spring of 2003, Dilfer’s 5-year-old son, Trevin, died of a heart condition. Christensen in the early part of his tenure with the Colts decided to put his personal and professional life on hold and fly to Seattle to spend several weeks comforting Dilfer. It’s also a testament to the man coach Dungy is by letting his offensive coordinator go.
“He left the Colts in the midst of their offseason and he came and lived life with us,” Dilfer told The Indianapolis Star. “He sat with us. He prayed with us. He cried with us. Words can’t explain the commitment, the dedication.
“It maybe sounds trite, but there are few people on the planet you’d jump in front of a bullet for. Clyde’s at the top of that list for me.”
The weight of his commitment to former players speaks volumes and unless you are dead, there is little need to expound. But, this isn’t solely one player’s opinion.
“I’m fortunate I had the chance to work with one of the best in the NFL,” Luck said. “We really built a nice bond and he was such a valuable resource not only for me but for all of the other players he encountered. His coaching track record certainly speaks for itself. He’s as good of a man as he is a coach, and he cares tremendously for the players he works with.”
Now in a vacuum, this seems like a nice story of a nice guy who is a coach, but it’s deeper than that when placed in context. Gase and Christensen have come to Miami to win. But, the second goal, a major one tied to the first, is to evaluate Ryan Tannehill and in the process get him to be his best. Football players are humans, despite what many think. Little things play out big. That’s what the great coaches do better than the good ones – the little things. Emotions are the enigmatic factor in the game – not even the best pay per head reviews in the world have it figured out. There isn’t an exact science on how to motivate, as each coach as different motivational tools and each player needs different tactics to elicit a response. But, loyalty and love are the closest to a sure thing there is.
Between Gase and Christensen, Ryan Tannehill will have full support, unlike his time with Philbin and Lazor. This season will determine if that lack of support was justified or not. But, one of the three rationales/excuses that has been used for Tannehill not reaching his potential has been eliminated. Now, next up is talent acquisition and after that the X’s and O’s. But, the foundation of any relationship is trust…and Clyde Christensen is a man to be trusted. Go Fins!!!

I understand the thought about protection, and without Tanny is mediocre, such as Brady (not), Cam (not). The difference is, the very few times he had protection he has looked mediocre. And, we all know how Brady and Cam look when protected (even for a few seconds). Please don’t do that to yourself and compare Tanny to those QBs. Ouch!!!
Side note: Miami at least has to entertain the thought of signing Laurinaitis (LBer, Rams). For one, he has never missed a game since he came into the league in ’08. Miami desperately needs reliability, not to mention he is a Mike LBer. Great tackler, and his strength is pass coverage,,,, HELLO (sign him). His weakness is pass rushing, getting after the QB. We can live with that, a reliable player that can call the “D”. He is not cut for production reasons (financial), the Rams are gearing up to sign both their stud free agent CBs, which I am sure Miami has their eyes on.
Yeah, Dunner putting out an article on Laurinaitis tonight. Also, to me protection was one issue that COULD be the cause of his results. Gameplan, calls, lack of LOS control – maybe he’d still not come up big if everything was correct. This season will be a T-Hill popcorn watching event.
I read that we are giving a high priority to re-signing one of Tannehill’s preferred targets Rishard Mathews
I think Mathews signing is a must for Tannehill to excel since he he a scrambler and has great hands and gives Tannehill a great short to intermediate target to hit
Tanne just needs more time to find receivers or wait till they get open and that means a solid offensive line
We could become the most prolific passing team if we get 2 good guards

I think it a move to keep the door open in case Miller and / or Vernon doesn’t work…hmmm, I think we put an article about something along those lines… 🙂
We have good wr’s and if we can keep Miller or sign Forte a good rb tandem. Obviously they need to fix the o-line. If they get a good guard and a decent guard with a little depth it will change the offense. Tannehill will never be Brady or Big Ben even but I believe he can be a good qb still. Look at Dalton this year. Look at what happen to Brady,Cam and other elite qb’s when they had no protection. Even Luck before he got hurt looked mediocre. I just hope they fix everything around him enough so we can see what he’s capable of
Agree, T-Hill just needs to produce and be effective in the clutch if the run game and D can come together. The clutch game and game management for T-hill is my biggest concern. I think for sure the other elements will improve but heady game play and calmness under intense pressure…we’ll see.
Yeah, Sure, Tannehill has their full support, till we find ourselved 1-4 then 2-6 at midseason. Then you’ll see the alarm bells by way of ‘…so, who’s the top QB prospect in next years draft?…’
No new regime comes in saying the current franchise QB who’s being overpaid by the owner is a bust or a dog. In fact the way a new regime gets this job is by saying what a great upside the bum has. Then when the team isnt winning and the bullets start flying (again) you hear the OC and HC “quietly” and “privately” blame the bum QB.
In the end, if no QB, no Super Bowl. Period end of story. That is unless all you want is a one-and-done Wild Card game.
This will be the year either the T-Hill haters or lovers will get a mouth full of shut up…as long as play calls and talent is decent. But, no qb, no Superbowl needs clarification. Do you mean no elite qb no Superbowl? If so I disagree. If T-Hill can be a 8/10 and we can get a stud running game and D, then I think it would be good enough for a shot at a ring. T-Hill doesn’t need to be Brady or Rodgers if all the other elements are in place, but he needs to do better than he has.
