Miami signed two under achieving running back in Pead and Thomas

Miami signed two under achievers running backs.

Miami Signed Two Under Achieving Running Backs in Pead and Thomas.

Since the departure of Lamar Miller, the Dolphins have gone full tilt to get that stable of backs they desire – the results have been less than extraordinary. They nearly had C.J Anderson. They made a shot at Chris Johnson. They inquired into James Starks and Alfred Morris. They approached the Kansas City Chiefs and a couple of other organizations about a possible trade. They just had former rushing champion, Arian Foster come in for a visit. In the end, Miami signed two under achieving running backs in Isaiah Pead and former Dolphin Daniel Thomas.

Now Miami has come full circle, and signed a free agent running back that they are familiar with, in Daniel Thomas. Thomas was a former second round draft pick of the Dolphins, and spent 4 seasons in Miami before being cut from the team. Last year, he attended the Chicago Bears training camp, which means Gase has a bit of familiarity with him, however he did not make it past the cuts. Thomas under performed in Miami, and anyone expecting for him to have a career resurgence this time around shouldn’t hold their breath. Thomas has never been able to play a complete an NFL season due to injuries, and his best season was his first season in 2010, when he had 581 rushing yards. Depending on what Miami does in the draft, Thomas may not even make the team.

In addition, Miami also added St Louis Rams running back Isaiah Pead who is coming off an ACL injury, and is a long shot to even make the 53 man roster. Since 2013, Pead has a whopping 9 carries for a total of 24 yards. He was also selected in the 2nd round, and is an even bigger disappoint than Thomas has been.

Neither of the signed back will likely make the week 1 roster.

Neither Thomas or Pead are going to be the answer for Miami, so what is the point in even signing them? It’s an easy bet for those into sports gambling that neither will even make it to the opening day roster. There are still some free agent running backs available that have had much more productive careers than Thomas and Pead, such as Reggie Bush, Bobby Rainey, LeGarrette Blount, Ronnie Hillman, Fred Jackson, Ahmad Bradshaw, Tim Hightower, and Pierre Thomas. Any one of those backs could run circles around the busts we just signed.

To be honest, I would have much rather the Dolphins have signed Foster even though he is still recovering from a serious injury At least he’s proven he can play at this level. Foster also has been doubted by naysayers his entire football life. All he has done every time is proven people wrong. I would take a banged up Foster over Thomas and Pead any day – and twice on Sunday. What are the rest of the Miami Dolphins News fans thoughts about the Dolphins latest ‘non-signings’?

Do you think Kaepernick should take A pay ‘Cut to play with the Bronco’s?

According to Bleacher Report’s Jason Cole, the Broncos asked the quarterback to agree to a new deal that would pay Kaepernick a $7 million base salary in 2016. Obviously, the deal would only work if the 49ers and Kaepernick were both on board.

On Kaepernick’s end, it makes zero sense to agree to that because his $11.9 million is already guaranteed for 2016, so there’s no reason to take any less than that. The 49ers quarterback also has a $400,000 workout bonus tied into his 2016 pay and a $2 million roster bonus that he’ll get if he’s active for nine games.

That means Kaepernick could make a total of $14.3 million in 2016, which is a gigantic number for a Broncos team that’s currently only $1.62 million under the salary cap for the upcoming season. If Kap doesn’t agree to a new deal, there’s almost no way the Broncos can take on his contract.

Also, it’s not crazy to think that Kaepernick was offended by the Broncos’ $7 million offer. After all, this is the same team that offered $16 million per year to Brock Osweiler, who has less experience and is arguably not even as good as Kaepernick.

On the 49ers’ end, even if Kaepernick did agree to the pay cut, the Niners likely wouldn’t trade him unless they get what they want in a deal.

As Will Brinson wrote on Thursday, there’s no reason for the 49ers to agree to anything unless they get what they think Kaepernick’s worth. If the 49ers think Kaepernick’s worth a second-round pick, then they can wait for the Broncos to offer that, and if the offer never comes, then San Francisco can just hold onto Kaepernick.

The bottom line is that the Broncos still need a quarterback, and if they want that quarterback to be Kaepernick, they’re going to have to promise him more money and offer the 49ers a draft pick that they can’t refuse.

However, don’t be shocked if that offer might never comes. Sounds like A good Draft Trade partner for the Fins on Draft Day??

Who cares. This is a dolphins blog. As for the running backs I wouldn’t mind pairing Pierre Thomas with Ajayi. Great receiver and very good pass blocker. Could be a cheap way to go if we don’t get one in the draft. But there are a few I think we can get in the middle rounds and not waste an early pick that we need to fix the o-line and defense

Pierre Thomas is a solid player and would work well in a stable with Williams and AJayi – I am also of a similar mind that a back should be found mid round…although, if Elliot is a s good as Steve believes I might change my mind.

I dont know anything about Thomas no more than what I just read below.

Thomas has been an exceptional find for the Saints – first signed as an undrafted free agent in 2007, he earned a roster spot as a rookie, excelling on special teams. He’s evolved into one of the most productive running backs in team history as an equally versatile threat in the backfield as a runner, receiver and blocker. In 94 games with 35 starts, Thomas has carried 773 times for 3,523 yards (4.6 avg.) with 26 touchdowns and added 282 receptions for 2,230 yards (7.9 avg.) with 11 touchdowns. He’s ranked fourth in club records in rushing yards and yards per carry, fifth in rushing touchdowns, eighth in total touchdowns (38) and ninth in receptions. In 2013, Thomas led the Saints in rushing, carrying 147 times for 549 yards with two touchdowns and finished first among NFL running backs in receiving, catching 77 passes for 513 yards (6.7 avg.) with three touchdowns.

If Kap was wise he would. His pride has been wounded and I think it’s pride that’s running his brain at this point.

        Jimmy

David Johnson is spilled milk now But he was on my hope that the Dolphins drafted him last 2015 draft. His performance is no surprised to me. Same as Elliot will help the Dolphins Advanced.

The Arizona Cardinals, for example, found a gem in the third round a year ago in running back David Johnson. The underrated rookie from Northern Iowa accounted for 1,636 all-purpose yards for the Cardinals last year, scoring touchdowns as a rusher (eight), receiver (four) and on a 108-yard kick return.

That being said many are over looking said Players this Draft?

        Offensive Linemen

        Willie Beavers, Western Michigan, 6-5, 321, 5.24
The MAC may not get the respect of the SEC or Big Ten but it quietly has produced several quality NFL prospects in relatively recent years, not the least of which include the Pittsburgh Steelers’ All-Pros Ben Roethlisberger (Miami of Ohio) and Antonio Brown (Central Michigan) and the Oakland Raiders’ young star edge rusher Khalil Mack (Buffalo). Beavers will not generate this kind of attention but the three-year starting left tackle turned heads at the Senior Bowl by holding his own against top competition despite sliding over to play right tackle and guard. Boasting a combination of size, strength, agility and tenacity to project nicely to virtual any position along the offensive line, Beavers is quietly viewed as one of the more versatile blockers in this year’s class.

        Defensive Linemen

Javon Hargrave, South Carolina State, 6-1, 309, 4.83
With all due respect to the “skill position” players, what makes the 2016 NFL Draft unique from recent years is the remarkable talent at defensive tackle. Hargrave is a perfect example of this. Despite recording an eye-popping 29.5 sacks over the past two seasons and turning heads at both the East-West Shrine Game and Senior Bowl, only the most passionate of NFL Draft fans are familiar with him in part because there are simply so many other defensive tackles to choose from. In terms of slicing through gaps and wreaking havoc behind the line of scrimmage, however, few are better than Hargrave.

        Safety
        Deiondre Hall, Northern Iowa, 6-2, 199, 4.62
        Five others to consider:
        1.Kevin Byard, Middle Tennessee State, 5-11, 216, 4.62*
        2.Clayton Fejedelem, Illinois, 6-0, 204, 4.54*
        3.Deiondre Hall, Northern Iowa, 6-2, 199, 4.62
        4.DeAndre Houston-Carson, William & Mary, 6-1, 201, 4.50
        5.Miles Killebrew, Southern Utah, 6-2, 217, 4.54
        xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
        others to consider: Cornerback’s
        1.James Bradberry, Samford, 6-1, 211, 4.45
        2.Mike Jordan, Missouri Western, 6-1, 200, 4.55*
        3.Cre’von LeBlanc, Florida Atlantic, 5-10, 192, 4.52
        4.Harlan Miller, Southeastern Louisiana, 6-0, 182, 4.54
        5.Daryl Worley, West Virginia, 6-1, 204, 4.52

    Admin!

No one! once to discuss him but Ray Rice is still Available?? Also like you said Reggie Bush!
win and still Means out performed the healthy running backs the Jags tried to replaced in place of Means.
What we have now reminds me of A play off game with the New Franchise Jags Coach by Tom Couglin. When Netron Means RB got injured against the Bronco’s coming off there Super Bowl

Means though lipping was more effective than the healthy running backs. Who I viewed what we have now are just some running backs???????

Natrone Means I still remember him bouncing Cox in the playoff game and taking the TD that eventually won them the game…Very good back who had a very short window. Ajayi is at least decent, if not more. Williams has potential, but can be consistent…need one more real back and one more filler back and Miami is fine. Finding that real back will be the challenge. Still if the line is doing great a rising tide raises all ships.
