Recent Trade talks may Hurt more than Help the Phins

As we have said before, this time of year is ripe with rumors and the latest rumor in the Miami Dolphins newsroom is that the Dolphins are seriously calculating the cost it would take to trade up into the top 10 in the draft. The last time Miami made a move like this was in the 2013 draft, where Jeff Ireland traded up to the 3rd spot to draft Dion Jordan, which all sports gambling fans know has not really worked out as planned so far.

The Dolphins only have 6 draft picks this year and they are already without their 3rd round pick, which means if Miami does make a trade up into the top 10, then that would pretty much mean they would not have any more picks until at least the 4th or even 5th round. Just based on that fact, combined with the other fact that Miami has a few glaring needs, it would be foolish for Miami to trade up in the draft and diminish their draft pick ammunition. The Phins are not one player a way from being a Super Bowl team, and instead, Miami needs to be contacting teams and finding a trading partner in which they can trade back in the first round so they can add more draft picks, which allows them to select more players and hence raises the probability that they can generate more than one starter from this draft.

In regards to Miami trading up, the rumor on sports betting software fans tongues is that they are enamored by West Virginia Wide receiver Kevin White and he is their top-rated player on their draft board. White has been so impressive this off-season that he has jumped up to the number one rated wide receiver on most draft boards ahead of Amari Cooper. I would say that I do agree with Miami, that White is the best receiver in this draft, and probably one of the best players in the entire draft, however, I do not think there is that much of a drop off in talent from White to Parker. Parker is a very good receiver in his own respect that has the size that Miami is lacking at the receiver position, and there is a solid chance that he will be available when the Phins are on the clock at the number 14th spot.

As much as I do like White, I would not mortgage this entire draft in order to select him. We desperately need a starting Guard and Linebacker and it could be a lot harder to find starters at those positions if we don’t have a second, third, or even fourth-round pick to use on them. Like I have said many times before, I am a lot more interested in trying to trade back in order to acquire more draft picks, which would allow us to draft more players and giving us a better chance of finding more starters. What does the rest of the Miami Dolphins fans think about trading up in the draft to select White?

Fixed offensive line 1st; linebacker and 3rd We need not leave the Draft without (David Johnson RB); Jeremy Langford RB 8 Since we don’t have a 3rd draft pick? will show up in the WASH THIS SEASON!

Let’s look back on the biggest takeaways from the Dolphins 2014 season. Then ask yourself who should the dolphins 1st pick be and how ridiculous it is to consider moving up into this draft!

Jim BO! Number one reason why Dolphins must TRADE BACK AND draft Cam Irving FSU!

The fate of the Dolphins’ upcoming season might hinge on the strength and durability of Albert’s right knee, which sports a four-inch scar from surgery to his ACL last fall — his first surgery of any kind.Standard ACL rehab takes 7 to 9 months to complete.

For many athletes, not only does this mean the end of their athletic season, but it may interfere with their being ready for the next season. But can ACL tear rehab be sped up?

How long do you have to wait before returning to sports after ACL surgery ?Answer

Look at what Keshon did for the Jets or Dez did for the cowboys. Neither went to the SB. tradeing up is a waste of picks. JJ did a good job when he picked Taylor and Zach- made our defense something to fear for a few years. As far as picking a WR or RB without a GOOD OL–well it’s nutz!!!Keep RT on his feet and let Lamar run through holes and you might have something. OL OL OL. If you want to build a team start from the ground up- someone commented it is a Jets move he is so right NE wouldn’t do it.

I think we have to get White, Parker or Green-Bekham. Whatever they have to do is OK with me

    • Jimmy Bourbon

I will take any of those three receivers, but not trading away the whole draft to get them

  • phinfreak

As if Kevin White would be there at #10, hahahahahah

    • Jimmy Bourbon

Please actually read the article before you make silly comments phinfreak. Trade up into the top 10. Into the top 10. Into means anywhere from 1-10, not only the number 10 spot

  • Dennis Brown

Stay put at 14. Dorsett will be there in the 2nd round.

    • Jimmy Bourbon

      I like Dorsett a lot

      • Dunner

Dorsett is good, but not a true #1, he is more like a Stills.

        • Jimmy Bourbon

True Dorsett is not a true #1, but Philbin seems to get ride of every number one receiver he has on this team, so it is looking like he actually does not want a true number one. He wants a bunch of number 2’s, because he wants to spread the ball around

  • Manny Lastra

Great observations,I would like for them to trade down and get more picks and not loose the ones that we have, for sure we are going to need all of them,go phinssssssssssssssssssss.

SMOKE SCREEN!!! This is the time of the year in the NFL when the truth is anything but, and deception is the name of the game. Parker may be Miami’s man, but they don’t want the rest of the teams to think that. Maybe they want Cooper, and want teams to think they are targeting White, you just never know this time of year, that is part of what makes the draft so appealing. Should they pull off this trade and get White, great, you think Buffalo and Atlanta regret trading up to get their #1 WR (Jones, Watkins)? I highly doubt it. A true #1 WR is worth his weight in gold. Even though I too would like more picks, I would not oppose any trade up for White. White has the ability to be a Mega Tron type WR, something we have missed,,, ummm, in forever.
There are several ways to trade up without giving up all of this years draft. Player/following years draft picks/both. If getting White cost us our 1st, 2nd, 4th, both 5ths, next years second, whatever, so be it. Remember, we should get 2-3 decent compensatory picks for next years draft, which could give them 3 thirds and 2 fourths, so giving up next years #1 may not be all bad, especially if we have a decent year and are drafting in the mid to late 20’s, maybe even in the 30-32 range (hopeful).

Personally I believe this to be a smoke screen, if not, great, go get White and team him up with Laundry/Stills/Tannehill/James/Miller/Pouncey/Cameron/Turner/Matthews/Sims…… What a YOUNG ASCENDING nucleous of offensive players with a above average defense as is!!!

Exciting times to be a Miami fan.

I know that the front office already knows all too well the importance of getting more picks as opposed to getting less picks
All I can think off is that they are either offering next years picks plus this years first round pick
So if that is the case I could live with that
Or they may be offering a player that we have plus the first round pick
Again if it is the later then it has to be Jordan even if it costs the team money
We really have no No use for Jordan
This coach won’t make him a linebacker and there are better players on our team as defensive ends
So there is just no place for Jordan
I don’t think they will trade this years second round pick away just to move up for white that would be irresponsible
But then again we don’t know what other deals or plans there are in the works to fill our needs
If we trade up I hope we have a plan for the other needs we have

    • Jimmy Bourbon

Could be true Ralph, we may use our 2016 first round pick as a trading chip, or a player, but this could also be smoke and mirrors as well. Even though this organization needs to win now, I don’t think they would be silly enough to mortgage away everything on one player

    • Phinfan

What if we trade back to 23 with Detroit and aquire a 2nd rounder and get Beckham?

  • Don’t trade up or down, It won’t give any better of player. They will get a first round pick and can get a receiver. Then they must see if they can get the running back Todd Gurly! Then there 3rd round pick would be Ronald Darby, or Jordan Williams. With there last pick in the early rounds can be TE, Maxx Williams or USC TE Buckley Brook. Then after the draft sign NM, and two receivers they need. And go for a guard for the offensive line. Move our line backers to position them as needed Misi, and Dion Jordan can be inside line-backers. They have the speed and height.!! We need to have a strong running game. We cannot pass on a strong running back to go with NM. Our offensive line needs another offensive line -man. Tannehill needs a strong offensive line as well a strong running game. We cannot waste the picks we have!

    • Jimmy Bourbon

The only way we will have a third round pick is if we trade back. And if we do happen to draft Gurly than there is no chance we will re-sign Knowshon Moreno
