Jimmy’s First Round Pick

I will be honest and that I am sick of the Dolphins drafting offensive linemen in the first round, however when your offensive line is an annual issue that is what you are forced to do. Even though Miami improved their offensive line play last season, there are still 2 glaring holes at the Guard position, and there is no guarantee Albert will be 100% healthy for the season opener. In addition, even though the offensive line does not get the glory and the publicity as the touchdown makers do, they are the foundation for the entire offense. They set up the running lanes for the running backs, and they provide the protection, so Tannehill has time to throw the ball. On a side note, Tannehill has shown that when he does have time to throw the ball he can be a very good QB in this league. With all that being said I, unfortunately, think that Miami should once again draft a lineman in the first round.

My first choice would be to get Brandon Scherff, however, unless there is a huge run on a particular position (namely wide receiver) then Scherff will in all likelihood be off the board by the time the Dolphins select at the number 14th spot. In that case, if I were in the war room I would be targeting LSU‘s offensive lineman La’el Collins. He played almost his entire college career at the Left Tackle position, but many sports betting software like www.AcePerHead.com are projecting him to be better suited to play guard in the NFL. Right off the bat drafting Collins would not only give Miami a new starting Guard, but he can also provide depth in the all-important Left Tackle position if Albert is not ready to start the season, or if he gets banged up. Also he would most likely play Right Guard which would pretty much solidify the right side of our offensive line for the next 7-10 years.

I would prefer to trade back just a bit and then draft Collins, however that could potentially cause us to lose out on Collins if another team jumps on him. However, with this being a deep draft, and Miami has other needs as well, I would be willing to take the risk on trading back and potentially missing out on Collins, but in the process still selecting a starting-caliber player in the first round, and adding another draft pick to our arsenal of picks.

I will say that in a dream scenario of us not having to still find starters on the offensive line, then I would much rather use our first-round pick on one of the top three wide receivers (White, Cooper or Parker) if they are on the board at the 14th spot. If all those players were gone then I would actually make a surprising pick and draft Todd Gurley, because I believe he has Peterson type talent, and running backs like that do not land in your draft lap every year. However this is not a dream scenario, because Miami stills needs to solidify their offensive line, which is an unglamorous but extremely vital position, which means my pick is Collins. If the rest of the Miami Dolphin News fans were the General Managers, who would you guys select in the first round?

Another OLman from LSU? No thank you.

Please pick pick up RB Malcolm Brown at some point in the third (assuming we aquire a third) or fourth. He is going to be the RB steal of the draft and he would be a perfect compliment to Miller.

1st = Devante Parker, WR, Louisville

2nd = Luke Tomlinson, guard Duke

3rd = (if acquired) Ronald Darby, CB FSU

4th = Malcolm Brown, RB Texas

5th = Ramik Wilson, ILB Georgia

5th = Leterrius Walton, DT Central Michigan

    6th = Donald Celisar, CB/S Western Michigan

There you have our 2015 draft class…. Book it!!! Wishfully

CUT Jordan and move on already!!!

What a waste of a pick – another Ireland Bust
We gave up a first and a second to get him
Had we stayed put of course we would have 2 additional starters now – imagine a Guard and an ILB those would be 2 less holes to fill this draft
Ireland’s trade to move up and draft Daniel Thomas another bust
The dolphins should just cut him
I have a question does a suspension mean that we do not pay him,? so what happens to our CAP – do we now have 5 Million nine hundred and eighty four thousand dollars more in CAP SPACE ?
His salary was supposed to be a combined 5,267,256 in 2015 that is one very large number
He is also in his last year of his rookie contract so it is obvious that now we cannot trade him and that he will not be resigned next year so we get zilch for this player
    Thanks Ireland

A guard. How about a franchise Tackle with the third overall pick. Really like Albert, but that probably wouldn’t have happened if Ireland knew anything.

Newsflash – Dion Jordan suspended for a whole year. Now we know why he did not show up for the voluntary off season program. What an idiot!

I think we need to take a look at a healthy Billy Turner. I like this kid and think he will fill one hole nicely. As he was hurt last year it is not fair to right him off. We have just picked up two veterans at guard, they may not be top draw but they are not slouches either. I think we have bigger needs at ILB. However, I am of the ‘pick the best player available’ school of thought.

If Parker is gone by 14, and by most accounts he will be, then I’d be perfectly happy with Collins esp. in a trade down scenario. Albert’s injury history shows it’s likely he won’t play 16. If Collins is taken, Phins better address defense the next round or 2 as major holes at MLB, CB would remain. Then get a power RB later on. I really hope they find a good way to get that 3rd rounder back. Really need it as this team still has alot of holes.

I am 80% sure that we are trading Jordan. The question is who or what do we get in return. Do we get a draft pick or do we get a player. If we get a player it could very well be a guard. therefore that alters who we select in the first round or if we trade back
If Gurley is available we will get three teams willing to trade with us.
We have many ways to go with the 14th pick and we will find out the plan in 2 days
I bet we move down unless one of the top three receivers in this draft are available White Cooper or Parker.
Hickey Will make the right decision

Jordan is untradable. I don’t want to say he is a bum, I hope he gets his life straight, but in the words of football, he is a bum and the BIGGEST draft bust ever (Miamis). Thanks so much Ireland!!! And to think we moved up and gave up a second round pick for him.

  • Dunner

Jimmy, understand your pick and do not disagree. Not the most sexy pick, but would make our team much better for many years to come. So, if that is the pick, I would not be disappointed, but not excited either.
If one of the top 3 WR’s (Cooper, White, Parker) are there at 14, I think it is a no brainier, they pounce! Now if they are all gone I believe they will trade down and wait for the board to fall to them.
The perfect scenario would be to trade the 14th pick to the Dallas (Dallas can get their RB – Gurley), and Miami picks up Dallas’ first round, second round, and third round picks. And at 28 Miami could still get a starter at WR, Guard, CB, LBer.
My pick is Devante Parker, I think he slides to 14, and I believe he will be the best WR in draft.
